from the mouth of ChatGPT

here’s a quick scouting brief on each QB and their fit for the Miami Hurricanes, followed by a final recommendation:
Max Leavitt (Utah State)

Fit: Smart, poised pocket passer with good anticipation.

Why yes: Accurate and efficient — could thrive in a structured, timing-based offense.

Why not: Average athleticism and arm talent limit upside in explosive plays.

Verdict: Solid but not transformational.

Jaxson Kadan Slovis (JKS)

Fit: Experienced journeyman type — accurate short-game QB.

Why yes: Veteran presence, understands multiple systems.

Why not: Limited mobility and durability concerns — not a match for Miami’s push toward dynamic offense.

Verdict: Doesn’t move the program forward.

Rocco Becht (Iowa State)

Fit: Smart, tough, composed — strong system QB.

Why yes: Accurate, good field vision, efficient in RPOs.

Why not: Average arm, lacks “wow” factor for Cristobal’s vertical offense.

Verdict: Reliable game manager but not a difference-maker.

Mestamaker (FCS sleeper type)

Fit: Raw, athletic gunslinger.

Why yes: Strong arm, dual-threat traits, could surprise.

Why not: Inexperienced versus Power 5 defenses — high learning curve.

Verdict: Long-term project.

Tyler Hoover (Missouri)

Fit: Big-bodied pocket QB with strong arm.

Why yes: Fits Miami’s power-run + play-action structure.

Why not: Streaky accuracy, needs clean pocket to operate.

Verdict: Intriguing tools but needs polish.

Tayven Sorsby (Indiana)

Fit: Dual-threat with toughness.

Why yes: Can extend plays, mobile, gritty leader.

Why not: Inconsistent accuracy, limited deep ball.

Verdict: Good bridge QB but not elite upside.

LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina)

Fit: Big arm, strong frame, plus athleticism.

Why yes: Explosive dual-threat, fits Cristobal’s ideal “physical” brand.

Why not: Still developing pocket consistency and timing.

Verdict: Huge upside — could thrive with Miami’s weapons and line.

Gunnar Bailey (mid-major riser type)

Fit: Efficient, quick decision-maker.

Why yes: Underrated, sharp processor, spreads the field well.

Why not: Arm strength below ACC standards.

Verdict: Depth or developmental piece.

Steve Angeli (Notre Dame)

Fit: Smart, accurate pocket passer with leadership.

Why yes: Polished, high football IQ, poised under pressure.

Why not: Limited mobility and “wow” arm talent.

Verdict: Steady floor, modest ceiling.

Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee)

Fit: Elite athlete with big-time arm.

Why yes: Prototype modern QB — mobility, arm talent, RPO savvy.

Why not: Needs consistent decision-making; still developing field command.

Verdict: Future star if given the right structure and patience.

Final Recommendation: LaNorris Sellers

He’s the best fit for the Miami Hurricanes among this group — a dynamic, physical QB who matches Mario Cristobal’s philosophy: strong run game, vertical passing, and toughness. Sellers brings the upside of a true dual-threat while still having the arm to challenge defenses deep.

Just curious, how many freshman/da freshman qbs are playing significant minutes this year?

At what point does identifying hs qbs that can play immediately become a possibility?

Underwood and bachmeier anre the only true freshman starters in the top 25. Carr is a RS FR and so is sayin, basically.

The Pitt qbs is also a freshman too, right? The guy from Maryland? I feel like there are around 10 freshman/rs freshman qbs that play each year. That number jumps when you consider true sophomores.

I’m not saying we don’t need a transfer portal qb this year. But if Nickel or Dereon don’t play by opening day 2027, are they busts? Or does our qb development need more work? Who are Dawson’s qbs that he has identified and developed? Just interested.

Yeah they are - I was focused on T25, though. There certainly is an arguement to sign a good QB out of HS but evals have to be spot on for the kid to be a starter his 2nd year. Best case is that you have a really good QB starting for you for 2 years.

We were so spoiled with Cam lmao. Bailey wouldn't be a Heisman but I think he could be a top 15 QB in the nation with our O line and weapons, time will tell.

More than anything I just want the staff to wrap this up early for recruiting purposes in the portal.

i'm 1000% on board ... about a week ago i started watching his tape and i've seen enough ... the running threat alone is gonna add 50yds or so to our rushing total per game ... give him our weapons and oline we could really have something

Have you seen Sorsby? Thoughts?

My top 10 Portal options for QB:

(Assuming Dawson stays as the OC)

1. Darian Mensah
2. Nick Minicucci
3. Demond Williams
4. Malik Washington
5. Brad Jackson
6. Will Hammond
7. Braden Atkinson
8. Owen McCown
9. Austin Simmons
10. Devin Farrell

IF Dawson isn't the OC next year:

1. Amari Odom
I’d be surprised if Mensah’s deal is one where he leaves Duke. Seems to already be premium money.

Some of these names I’m having to look up haha
