Gabby's list of transfer qbs

There are a lot of good options. I think it will be a buyers’ market for us.

I think you underrate Bailey’s upside. He has a high floor since he’s already a solid ACC QB with 20 starts, but he’s the same age as Mestemaker. He’s 6’6, will keep getting stronger and is a very good athlete.

His arm is plenty strong to attack downfield when he has protection.
What are your thoughts on Nico and how can I listen to that Pod cast you mentioned him in?

pringle/fletcher/brown
I’d bring in Turbo Richard from Boston College. Anyone putting up these stats behind that OL can play. I watched him play 4-5 games this year. He’s solid.

He was a sophomore this year so he will be a true Junior in 2026.

There is plenty of room to grow.
I could not care less about his height. Anything above 6'3" for a Qb is basically irrelevant. It's not like he's a thick dude built like Josh Allen. Him being 6'6" literally matters zero. And he is fine at running, but again straight line speed isn't all that important. And thats where being 6'6" aint doing him any favors. And It's not like he has some insane arm talent due to his build or something. He's just straight up not a Gunslinger is the main problem. And that will continue to be the problem. Why should we go for a "high floor" guy when our run game is likely about to be boring as **** yet again next year (assuming Fletcher, Brown, Lofton, etc all return and the run scheme stays so ******)?

Yeah he's a solid ACC QB... But you just said he's not going to be cheap? Those 2 things dont pair lol. Unless you tell me him coming is bringing jeremiah smith or some ****, that sounds like he already wont be worth the cost. like When has he shown he can be elite? Does he make any WOW throws? Thats the point. Legit his Completion % is like his only selling point which is quite literally one of the most overrated QB statistics in football. Who gives a **** about Completion percentage if you're not pushing the ball downfield and making explosive plays?

Literally the ONLY good thing I've been able to identify with Bailey as it relates to his fit in this offense is he has been one of the better ACC Qbs in pass grade on throws >3seconds TimeToThrow. I'd view that as important cause it's likely he will have a good PASS BLOCKING Oline here and be given time to make explosive plays happen.

Simply put we need someone who will make explosive plays through the air. I have extreme doubts Bailey is that guy. And most of the High Floor talk you can probably use on any top portal Qb that will have our Oline protecting them. We need to swing BIG for the sole purpose we need someone aggressive who Mario wont go super ******* conservative with at any Interception... Like this is by far the most important aspect of who we get at QB....

He had 1 great game - against ******* Campbell. He was good to really good against Wake, GTech (who has a ****** *** defense pitt passed all over), and UVA. He was fine against VTech, E Carolina, and UNC. And he sucked against US, ND, Duke, and FSU... hmmm... Last year he had 1 great game against Cal. He had like 3 Good games 2 solid games, and another like 5 bad games against GTech, Duke, Clemson LATech, and N Illinois... He had 19 INTs and 12 Fumbles (31 Total Turnover worthy plays) in 2 seasons. And only 27 Big Time Throws....

He wasn't even as good as Mendoza was though lol. I literally wanted Mendoza over Beck or Ewers last portal because I thought the Timing combined with Becks injury AND likely 25%+ discount for Mendoza would have been worth it....

Bailey hasn't shown nearly the upside as at least a handful other potential portal options. The only guy you keep talking about that I'd take Bailey over is Sellers who plain and simple doesn't fit this team at all...

Once again I'll say if our run game is going to be the same ****** design and conservative approach, we need a ******* playmaker at Qb who pushes the ball down the field and makes big time throws. Bailey doesn't do that. His best games are games where he is basically dink and dunking. That's not what we need with our Run game. We need explosive plays somehow.... And especially if Fletcher and Lofton return, this offense is setup to have zero explosivity again .... We need a baller that Mario wont go conservative with. Bailey isn't that.
I was a hard no on Bailey before. He’s not option 1 for me but he’s cracked my personal top 3 list (Sorsby, Leavitt and Bailey).

Also, not that he was an option here but I would assume that Becht goes to Penn State with Campbell. They will be better.

Through first two seasons:

CJ Bailey- 68%, 5,297 yards (7.9 YPA), 40 TDs, 19 INTs, 494 rushing yards, 10 TDs

Fernando Mendoza- 66%, 4,712 yards (7.5 YPA), 30 TDs, 16 INTs, 197 rushing yards, 4 TDs
Mendoza with our offensive mindset (sans the last 4 games) would not have the same success he is having with Indiana and their schedule.

If comparing Bailey to Mendoza, unless Mario/Dawson essentially say the last 4 games are our new identity, than not sure I see the fit.

Sorsby and Leavitt are clear tiers higher than Bailey.

Now if Bailey brings Jeremiah, all bets are off. But we know that ain’t happening.

Mendoza just simply threw the ball better.
... also Different offenses. Bailey is legit like what the 3rd Qb in the ACC wed even want in portal lol.

Through first two seasons starting:
Darian Mensah - 66.8%, 6,173 yds (8.7 ypa), 50 TDs, 10 INTs,
Kevin Jennings - 65.6%, 6,608 yds (8.2 Ypa), 49 TDs, 21 INTs, 404 rush, 9 tds

Josh Hoover - 64.8%, 6,155 yds (8.0 ypa), 42 TDs, 20 INTs
Sorsby - 61.3%, 4,400 yds (7.0 ypa), 33 TDs, 12 INTs, 723 rush, 13 TDs
Katin Houser - 64%, 5,306 yds (8.1 ypa), 37 tds, 17 ints, 351 rush, 13 Tds

Again Bailey is FINE as a fall back option IF CHEAP. Otherwise what the **** is the point of targeting him at the top? Makes ZERO sense to do that lol. Him not coming at a signficant discount to others in the portal would be a joke tbh. He can stay at NCSt and have Jojo join him if that's the case.

What about Bailey doesn’t match the “offensive mindset?”

I dispute that he’s a dink-and-dunk passer. His career YPA is 7.9, which is higher than Sorsby, Raoila, JKS, Leavitt and most of the names on these lists. NC State threw a lot of short passes, but they needed to because of protection issues.

Give him protection, and he can attack downfield.

You should be banned from this board for ever suggesting Emery should start a game here in any capacity ever! Some fans like you I’ll never understand, it’s like you don’t want to win. Emery is a group of five quarterback at Best and that’s a fact and he will never start here.

He’s not a creator in the pocket or someone that can escape trouble with his feet. His pocket presence is more like TVD than it is Beck.
You need the perfect table set for Bailey if you are going that route. Is Dawson/Mario going to attack like they did in last 4 games? Or was it a reaction to being cornered? Like I said if Dawson/Mario is committed to our last four games being our new identity AND you are 100 sold on your OLIne and you bring a #1 to play #2 to Toney… then sure Bailey will work. And essentially that’s your argument too.

Guys like Sorsby and Leavitt give you playmakers who can bail you out. They give margin, and outs in case your playcalling or your line let you down.
