FUIAP: Barry Jackson says we suck

Jackson is the only one at the Herald that I read. Cote has decided that being a progressive hack then excelling at sports is more important to him. The rest of the paper is so obsessed with bashing Trump that it has ceased to be a source of reliable news. I used to subscribe to their internet offering but got sick of pop up advertising interrupting my reading.

Listening to u people whine all day about how unfair the universe is to trump is getting old. Seriously.

Just restating the obvious.

The “concerning” part is that we are actually concerned about losing a few mid round draft picks, none of which did much of anything when the games truly became difficult.

Sure the roster has obvious issues but it’s not like we are trying to replace a roster of Pro Bowlers like we used to.

I don't like moving guys all the time (Hester) but if it's necessary and will help the program and the kid I'm all for it. With what we have coming in I wouldn't be against DJ going back to CB and Patchan going back to DE. Seems like logical moves if we don't get the guys we are targeting down the stretch. I think Patchan moving back to DE is a no brainer regardless. DJ would be debatable with the impact he had on offense but if we strike out and he needs to do it then...

All that said, hopefully CMR can haul in those stud CBs and 2-4 DL we are going for and we would be in a lot better situation.

I honestly don't see such a bad situation

lol... what team doesn't have holes... It's about adjusting your team to play to their strengths and hide your weaknesses.....

Losing 6 of 11 starters and other depth may be a hole but it is a gaping hole. The arugment was the strength of the line made the rest of the defense better, therefore a weaker line makes the defense worse.

While this may be true, what does it say about the roster when they were the best at their positions for the most part.

Last season at this time people were having a major meltdown about the secondary.
What ended up happening was that kids people never thought would step up played well along with some of the highly touted Frosh players living up to some of the hype.

I expect the same thing to happen on the DL. Guys who are on the team will try and prove why they should start and guys who come in as freshmans will live up to hype. Next man up.

I stopped reading after they listed Jamie Gordinier as one of the 2 best backup linebackers on the team.

Which is sad, because that's not what the article said.

"Two of the team’s best backup linebackers are gone". That's what it said. If you are going to criticize Barry Jackson, rip him for vague language. Two of the best backups? Sure, what a HUGE list. How PRECISE. Yes, it is a ridiculous statement. Yes, any linebacker on our roster could be one of the "best backup linebackers".

But once again, poor reading comprehension skills cause someone to overreact about a Miami Herald article. "Two of the best" is not the same as "the two best".

Work on it.

When are soft-shouldered people going to stop exaggerating and falsifying what the press says about Miami.

In no way, shape, or form does Barry Jackson say that the Miami Hurricanes "suck".

What is it going to take for Miami fans to stop overreacting to every minor perceived slight?

We have a bunch of Johnny Fontane fans who need to be slapped around and told to "act like a man".

My only real issue with the article was Jackson quoting kids saying they enjoyed their visits to other schools as if that was even remotely unique and/or ominous.

Btw, it doesn't seem like Ol' Barry has ever bought DJ Johnson's "family illness" excuse if you notice his verbiage on it over a few articles.

It only takes a few minutes to read the new messages that posters put on this forum each day, it will then become obvious that forum populated by many intellectually challenged individuals.

While I agree in numbers, nearly half those guys have yet to take a snap and another 1/5 of them have never really contributed.

To counter, I would say that before last season Garvin, Bandy, Carter, and Smith had never taken snaps but contributed immensely, while Mike Jack, Moten, Mike Smith, and Charles Perry had never really contributed before either. I think the fact that we're replacing a lot of talent is absolutely a cause for concern. It's an unknown. But we also have two seasons of evidence that our position coaches really know how to teach their groups, and that guys will improve and step up. The tone of the article (and the dishonest way the article is presented by OP) make it seem like it's a 5 alarm problem rather than the same thing that every team not named Alabama deals with every year to some degree. Good players leave. New guys have to get better.

The article comes across a bit more negative than I'd expect when it comes to recruiting, but we do lose a lot on defense. There's no mention of the Illinois DT transfer for depth, but he's going to mention the loss of Fines? C'mon, man. And what did Gordinier ever contribute? It was definitely slanted.

The Illinois transfer was mentioned in the article.
I stand corrected, somehow glossed that one over.

I like Jackson’s work. He emphasizes analysis over inside scoops. This means he can be frank. He doesn’t have to worry about biting the hand that feeds him.
Don’t get me wrong: I love scoops. It’s just good to have multiple reporters with different approaches.

When you refer to inside scoops are you referring to someone in particular that posts on this forum?
