Do you pay by the liter in Johannesburg or Capetown and what are your prices?

I'm from Johannesburg but live in the US now. Still have plenty of family there though, both Joburg and Cape Town. You pay by the liter in SA and current prices are around 23 Rand, so about $1.30 a liter or $4.90 a gallon.

It's hard to believe gas prices in Northern Cali are more expensive than SA's gas prices. Everything is usually more expensive there.
