FSU testing the waters?

I just can't imagine that there's room in the SEC or B1G for us.

We aren't able to get out of the ACC anyway. Didn't I read somewhere it's like 300 million to get out of ACC+media rights?

This whole conversation is a waste of time.

Why don't you go on a darkness retreat for a couple of years?

Good lord, just when I think I've seen the most tear-jerking puzzy post on this board, someone sets a new low.

Your entire existence is a waste of time.

Make a list of teams that will be better off if the ACC dissolves.

Now make a list of teams who will be worse off.

Ok now tell me if there is a chance in fire popping **** that there are anywhere near enough votes to override the GOR and dissolve the conference.

Sad face.
I'm going to go on a tangent for a minute, so bear with me. When a company is going bankrupt, it doesn't have enough money to pay its creditors. Do all the creditors say "well ****, we're in this together. We'll divvy up and take our lumps proportionally"? Nope. Instead, a common practice is for 51% of the creditors to get together and say "we get our money and everybody else gets zero", and they cut a deal with the company. As a majority of the creditors, they ratify the deal.

Back to our situation. Syracuse may not be better off if the ACC dissolves. But it might be better off if the ACC dissolves and it gets a $125M kicker for voting to dissolve. They can always join another conference and make some money to offset ACC losses. Put the rest of the ACC in a prisoners dilemma. You probably need to buy two schools. Put forth a proposal that all schools which don't go B1G, SEC, or Big 12 will be paid out of a pot money only if they vote to dissolve the conference. See who blinks first.

I haven’t read the GOR documents in their entirety, but as someone who has dealt in contracts snd a legal heavy field for 16 years, there are MAJOR issues with the “consideration” component of the agreement

If the ACC was smart, they’d strike a deal with Amazon or Apple and make ESPN come chase them

I read it; & while I knew some of the language in this, it appears the GoR is **** near iron clad. I’m still not sure how this was signed off on. Seriously, this may be a bigger mystery than The Lockness Monster or Big Foot. Reading that article made me sick to my stomach, b/c it proves my point that there’s literally idiots put in charge of decisions making millions for no reason.

I thought I read somewhere that the two guys in charge - from the ACC and from the network - are UNC brethren. Is that true or just conspiracy fiction?

That would be a great idea, but doesn't ESPN have the broadcasting rights for the next 14 seasons thru 2036?

We should find a way to make the ACC attractive for TV audiences. Bringing in ND is only a half measure. We should find get BYU, WVU, TCU, or Okie St. to join as well.

Also scheduling better ooc games would help.
The problem with conference is the ****** tv deal.

I think an option the schools should explore is to form a new conference to get a new TV deal. What would help is Miami winning the ACC and having multiple teams from the ACC make it to the new 12 team playoff.

I don't think ND will be an option. They will get picked up by the Big 10. I can't see any scenario where ND joins the ACC even with a new tv deal. The ACC would have to exceed what the Big 10 could offer and the ACC money won't even be close.

Good ?; I’ll need to check in to that.
Swofford went to UNC so that’s half of it and I just checked and the President of ESPN at the time was John Skipper who also went to UNC.

This isn’t new information as I’ve seen mention of it somewhere before though it seems that all roads lead back to and through Ole Tobacky.

I've always felt that while ND fancies itself a nationwide brand, it's goal should be being king of the midwest and maybe northeast. If they join the B1G, that doesn't happen. They'll become one of many.

The smart play for them would've been joining the ACC but well before now that it's too late. They overplayed their hand, imo.

Contracts can be iron clad, and still be unenforceable.

It is definitely not ironclad. It is likely intentionally not ironclad.

Did you read the 2016 extension? Because I haven't been able to find it (only the original 2012), and that's the one with the theoretical consideration concerns

Skipper is as UNC as you can get. So much so that when you hear him opine on this that he comes off as either a jackass or a gaslighter. He tries to sell the idea of the ACC sticking together on the "merits" of being a dominant basketball conference alone.

Anyone know what % of the ACC revenue Miami is responsible for? FSU says they’re 15%.

I feel like Miami is weird because when we’re big we’re a huge national draw and we get big games immediately but we’ve pretty much been **** for 15 years with the exception of a good season sprinkled in so our recent history makes us a great buy low candidate since the potential is there

Awww; the old cronyism act, huh?

Then that’s even worst. In essence, both screwed over their Alma Mater.

The ACC’s grant of rights contract states member schools “irrevocably and exclusively grants to the conference during the term all rights necessary for the conference to perform the contractual obligations of the conference expressly set forth in the ESPN agreement..”

This is the school’s ADs & BOTs reviewed & signed off on.

Simply put, any TV revenue a school is due from the ACC’s contract with ESPN is conference property through June 30, 2036 regardless of whether the school remains an ACC member or leaves for another conference.

So pls tell me what the loophole in this that can be fought in court since it was the participating schools who willingly agreed to this.

If you're a hospital and you're profitable sell yourself
If you're an independent community nonprofit, you wait until you inevitably start losing money, then get merged into either a bigger nonprofit (preferable) or a corporate entity (less desirable).

UHealth will probably spin off. Their biggest nonprofit challenger is Cleveland Clinic and they're not run well, at least in FL. They could dominate South Florida if they play their cards right.
