What is wrong with letting the market determine what their skills are worth? Why should they work for a reduced rate? I don't want to work for a reduced rate, do you?

Nice argument, totally mindless BS, but nice!

Why is it mindless BS? Please explain.

Thanks for asking, it shows a desire to discuss.

It's mindless because it's boilerplate without an ounce of originality. It's mindless because the consequences aren't considered. It's mindless because there is nothing preventing the creation of a pro league that fills the slot between HS football and the NFL. It's mindless because if the market is the determinant, the market has already determined that there is no commercial value to setting up such a league or it would be already be done (see minor league baseball). It's mindless because it assumes the infrastructure developed since Rutgers College first played the College of New Jersey should be donated for the economic benefit of such a minor league. This doesn't cover all the reasons its mindless and there may be some debatable points, but it's mindless to propose one side of an equation without fully considering all of its complications.

Anyone who has paid for their college education would be inclined to disagree that football players are taken advantage of. They are not slaves to the school, they can leave, or go pro at their hearts, ability and market opportunity presents itself.

I do have an affinity for the notion that the NCAA is a parasite on the back of the schools and the players. :p

Well stated. I worked for 40hrs a weeks to pay tuition, rent and feed myself. Nothing extra left over except some debt. I have no problem feeding them 7 days a week. If a small stipend is in order for gas and maybe dating-- well maybe. But remember what they are getting and the opportunity for pro career. Just because someone makes money off you does not mean you deserve more. I work for one of biggest companies in the world. It certainly makes a lot of money from mine and other efforts, but those efforts without the company around them would have no value at all. If today's players are going to get paid, then I want money too, because without my tuition years ago, they might not be here at all. The same is true for any who paid their way with hard earned cash.

IF we are ever going to pay them it should be only when and if they obtain their four year degree in something without the word "studies" in it. Then come talk to me. Otherwise they are getting free ride for playing a game while other work to pay to support it. Personally, I love my Canes, but I would rather shut down ALL college sports completely for a couple years. Then see what VALUE these high school kids have. Also would have nice the see impact on the colleges too -- maybe reduced salaries presidents and professors. What would all these genius coaches do for a living? Oh my, what about our mentors. Slave trader would have to carry his own cotton. All those stupid useless ESPN and network announcers would have to get real jobs at Walmark-- well except the hot chicks, they could always strip for a living.

Instead of paying players, lets find a way to take a bunch of all this money and give it to the fans who break their rears working to by tickets and beer to go watch the players. ***** the universities, players, coaches and networks, GIVE us some money.

Show me the money!!!

Without the fans the players are just a bunch of kids playing catch up games in the park.

"Southern states feature vastly different cultural, economic and physical territories, but every state with a school in the SEC contains a few consistent features from which a kind of map can be built:

The university housing your team.

A capital city. Your school likely has some concentration of lawyers or elected officials.

The metro area (sometimes also the capital), the state's most populated and therefore talent-rich area.

A community or city closest to your state's border with another conference state.

Enemy territory. Just as your team has boosters active in other states, so too are enemy agents inside your borders. In many cases they're concentrated in a single area, like an in-state rival's town, a town close to the border, or just an area with a concentration of sidewalk fans who support someone else.

From these areas, borders are drawn and districts are created, but over time specific territories are shaped by the bag men in them. It's a somewhat fluid map, at least over long amounts of time.

Regardless of the state, a school's bag men gravitate towards two centers of power: the university and the state's metro area, the latter because of population, the former because of power. Regardless of where top-dollar shadow boosters and bag men might live, the university town serves as the primary center of operations. After all, that's where the coaches and players are."

All college athletes should be paid. End of story.

Ok we can pay athletes a salary but they can pay their tuition, books, and rooming on their own.

They can also pay for all their meals, their tutors they get, their unlimited access to weight room, etc....

If they were paid what they were worth they'd have no problem covering those expenses. NFL players don't have to pay for weight room access or meals not sure why a college player would.

How are you going to distinguish what a players value is? 1 st team all american vs. a 3rd team bench warmer?

I'm not sure why you even have to. Let the 1st team all-american make his money in endorsements and appearance fees. Selling his autograph.

recruiting is not and never will be a clean process.

the only way to recruit clean is to offer something that is worth to recruits more then few k's of cash.

Standford = Ivy league education and a dope degree
USC = Cali lifestyle, house parties with celebs and fame
Alabama / LSU etc = the entire town sucking your **** ... literary (even though behind your back they actually can't stand you as a person but as long as you score them touchdowns you good people)
etc etc.

Miami has the old school canes, the south beach lifestyle thats it.. don't talk about the education etc because there are plenty of schools with better education they can go play ball at. We use to tell recruits "you want to get drafted high make cash an be ready to compete in the NFL come to the U" now we can't say that....Golden needs to look around him and either his assistance can recruit crazy talent or they can develop a 3start in to 5 star... otherwise GTFO...

Schools don't pay kids under the table. Boosters do, and Miami doesn't have boosters worth a ****. We have the worst financial fan support of any top 25 program. The only one we ever had was you know who and he was a ******* thumbtack dooshbag.

You want to cheat and compete? Step up. You want to run a clean program? Get used to having to find the underrated kids because most of the hype talents take the money.

Yup, then the 1st team all-american can share his "tips" with the surrounding cast that made his success possible, after he makes a generous donation to the school that at least covers the cost of his scholarship, food, housing, etc.

NCAA contributed nothing, gets nothing.

If you take money, it's a recruiting violation that has ramifications on their scholarships. To post this over the internet is just straight ******. It's FSU's problem, not ours.

Who's to say this dude didn't just cash his paycheck and decided to try and look cool and post it ? yal gotta chill. now if they start posting pics of new cars and electronics, there might be something to b**** about

Nothing will happen. Nobody gives a **** about this stuff except fans. It could be a picture of Jimbo smiling while handing them the keys to a Ferrari and it would mean nothing except more 305 kids "taking their talents to _______".

That's why recruits won't get in trouble for posting pics with money. You can't prove where the money is from but c'mon mane you know where that money is from

Good point. The cash could actually be theirs, but no way they'd have electronics or a car without some shadiness going on....

Miami needs to hire private detectives to catch some of these cheating schools in the act.

If we can't cheat, neither can anyone else. That is what I would do.

Real boosters wipe their *** with what that POS was throwing around. That shows you how bad our situation really is.
