FSU is broke

TrumpyCane wonders how thats worked for CU

Best year is 9-4 sandwiched between 4 and 3 win season, still lost 4 games with a good QB and a heisman winner

He doesn't recruit, he doesn't focus on the trenches (sound familiar)

FSU best chance is to hire some up and coming G5 guy who wants to make a name for themselves

Twinblade Sumrall is taken.

As you probably already know, SMU is extremely, filthy rich! Beautiful campus they have. I love them throwing shade at the Semenholes.

I thought SMU would a dark horse candidate to compete for a CFP spot every year. But they're not even close to where they need to be recruiting-wise. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to me.

Was reading the Noles 247 board for **** and giggles this morning and came across a post about their projected OL in 26. Only one player in the two deep is homegrown and that kid, Chavez Thompson. is listed as 6’1 311 with limited athleticism who probably can only play C only. (If he is listed at 6’1 he is probably shorter)

Year 7 and that is the state of FSU’s OL. Wow.

If we had a golf program he'd be coming to Miami.

I have no idea how Miami does not have a men's golf team.

AD Dave "Maggot" Maggard (he was the cancerous bump in the road between Sam Jankovich and Paul Dee) got rid of Men's Golf and Men's Swimming in the 1990s "to comply with Title IX", or so he claimed.

The obvious answer to a law that is designed to provide more sports scholarship opportunities to women is to ADD WOMEN'S SPORTS, not "cut men's sports".

But Dave Maggot was different.

Men's swim team would be phenomenal as well. Tons of local Florida kids from schools like Braddock would want to stay. Have a ton of friends who ended up having to swim at places like FSU or UTampa because Miami doesn't have one.

Well, I can guarantee you, based on evidence (including a hire that has not yet been announced) that new facilities will be added and new sports will be added. Soon. And, yes, the primary driver is likely more of "we want to join a P2 conference" as opposed to "we want to add more non-revenue sports".

100% true but that said there have been multiple athletic directors after that who could've rectified it including the current administration and it still hasn't happened

The problematic issue facing all subsequent ADs has been the addition of women's sports. When Alonzo was still AAD, he and Rad came to the first post-COVID Zoom crew luncheon. Back THEN, they were looking for a site for a women's softball facility. To me, softtball is a slamdunk, because it offsets a comparable men's sport (baseball). But we need to add MORE women's sports to add (or reinstate) certain men's sports. To me, Men's golf and swimming are slam-dunks, as we would not need to build a lot of NEW facilities. We already have the pool, and golf will play off-campus anyhow. We'd need coaching offices and meeting rooms, and the "new football facility" buys more Olympic sports space in Old Hecht. But I'd imagine there will be some demand for men's soccer, given who some of our biggest donors are.

Not sure if you were on Friday, but apparently we are up to 21 scholarships for baseball. Clemson has gone all-in and will have 35 full ships to give out. I am curious if the lag on 14 more ships is related to Title IX or budgeting, since it really doesn't "cost the university money" to offer more sports scholarships. Next couple of years are going to be fun to watch the developments.

I live in North Georgia and the big sports talk radio station is 680 The Fan. They had on their morning show, Stephen Godfrey from Yahoo Sports talking college football.

I’ll link it below, but at 7:30 in this interview Godfrey starts talking about the debt incurred by programs across the country and he straight up said, “FSU are credit-card millionaires and always have been”, and was very frank about why that is. It’s all nothing we don’t already know about, but it was interesting to hear other journalists calling it as they see it with FSU.

F$U's ego has always written wildly over-inflated checks...

They spent $140M on a football facility and $265M on Doak "improvements".

Also spent another $25M on other athletic buildings.

They are broke but they are also getting long term assets out of the spending.
To be fair, they had no urinals.

I was just thinking about how doomed FSU is given the revenue generating machine that is U Health, and the current state of affairs.

Then I thought about all this talk about private equity coming in an in edging in university teams for revenue splits. And I realized what their only actual shot will ever be to return to prominence and that it’s not actually that outrageous to happen in the next 10 years: the actual Seminole tribe invests in the team for the revenue split, brand control, and to get further goodwill from the State.

That would be bad news my friends. That’s the Hail Mary they need.

You gotta love those inbred *****s making stadium jokes when they haven't made a bowl in 2 years and we just played for the national championship. Its all they got though. Sad times.
Technically! we just played in 4 bowl games because every game in the playoffs is a bowl game! We made up for our bowl issues in one year!!

Very few investors would be interested in something that has little to no ROI, which is exactly what fsu offers right now. It makes me upset for them.............

Immediate ROI no, but the brand and potential is there. Look at The U after 20 years of doing nothing with the right investment and work. Seminole Tribe makes billions a year. They have the cash flow to sustain a dedicated turn around effort for the team that has an agreement for their name with them already.

Please let it be Men's golf. I would support the program single handedly with how much UM golf apparel I would buy.
