On what needs to change culturally
āIt is not a complicated thing,ā Reed said. āThese kids just have to humble themselves. These kids are doing thingsāand I know it because I have been places and seen them in places they shouldnāt beāand I tell them go home and they are smiling and laughing and hanging out with their family members or people they grew up with who are telling them that they are [really good] and that is the problem. The problem is the people they are surrounding themselves with are people who are giving them that glory when they havenāt done anything. It is one thing to treat a kid to some food, but to have them in the club and buying bottles? Cāmon man. That is not what it is about. It is about being with your teammates and having that accountability. I am not telling you to not have fun because we did have a lot of funābut we did it together.ā
When asked about the tipping point of when the culture went down
āI can be very specific and say it was the 7th Floor Crew stuff,ā Reed said. āThat was tragic for the university. These kids took what we were doing and took it to a whole other level and blew the school up with that nonsense. Granted, they were kids, but somebody has to hone in and be mature about it.ā
a lot of yāall want to harp on coaching coaching coaching.,which is apart of it..but structure and player accountability are more important. He also hit on recruiting at a high level not just instate but finding the National talent.
