On what needs to change culturally

ā€œIt is not a complicated thing,ā€ Reed said. ā€œThese kids just have to humble themselves. These kids are doing things—and I know it because I have been places and seen them in places they shouldn’t be—and I tell them go home and they are smiling and laughing and hanging out with their family members or people they grew up with who are telling them that they are [really good] and that is the problem. The problem is the people they are surrounding themselves with are people who are giving them that glory when they haven’t done anything. It is one thing to treat a kid to some food, but to have them in the club and buying bottles? C’mon man. That is not what it is about. It is about being with your teammates and having that accountability. I am not telling you to not have fun because we did have a lot of fun—but we did it together.ā€

When asked about the tipping point of when the culture went down

ā€œI can be very specific and say it was the 7th Floor Crew stuff,ā€ Reed said. ā€œThat was tragic for the university. These kids took what we were doing and took it to a whole other level and blew the school up with that nonsense. Granted, they were kids, but somebody has to hone in and be mature about it.ā€

a lot of y’all want to harp on coaching coaching coaching.,which is apart of it..but structure and player accountability are more important. He also hit on recruiting at a high level not just instate but finding the National talent.

The 7th floor crew song and players that did it was made public right before Georgia tech loss when we were no. 3 in country heading for what could have been in 2005. We haven't been the same since.

That structure and culture and all that stuff is the coaches’ responsibility. That’s why we harp on coaches so much.

At the end of the day, it’s the HC’s program. He sets the tone. He decides which players come here and which coaches lead them.

If you’re signing the wrong guys it is on you. If you’re letting **** slide it’s on you. It’s a results business. The successful coaches aren’t always crying about culture. They’re signing high character guys and leading them.

Okay..what are the player doing when it the offseason. When the coaches aren’t there what’s going on. What decisions are these kids making. What sacrifices are they making to be great..a lot of development in college is based on self motivation..it’s not like the pros were they can and are forced to spend a whole day at the facility...Ed and all the greats have said it over and over about the things they put aside to be great

When watching the ReUnion, it sounded like a lot of it was directed at the current players and state of the program. The culture part was clearly speaking to that. Now that this has been announced, those messages make a lot more sense. It is one thing to have guys like Reed come in for one day during a Paradise/recruiting event. It will be something else having him to hold everyone accountable, (hopefully) be in Manny's ear, and setting the standard. I would be shocked if you see things like JW missing curfew or walking out on the team to then play on Saturday going forward.

A free style song made in dorms chillin that wasnt made for public consumption was our downfall?! I find that hard to believe..

The other stuff I agree with wholeheartedly, the culture is a mess, guys thinking they made it before they have done anything, nflu bs, etc. Plus terrible cheap coaching hires and an admin that wants to cash ACC checks while not even reinvesting in program and hoping it can run by itself at a minimum I would think were bigger issues.

Agree man, that Gtech loss still haunts me from that year and the first game against FSU when we had the ball on the goal line and couldn’t punch it in For the win. Had we won that Gtech game and USC lost to ND like they should’ve we would have played for the title in the Rose bowl again. It would have been a tall task to beat Vince young that year but if we played like we played In the Vtech game up in Blacksburg that year then we beat Texas and win it all. What could have been. Smh

Why doesn’t Clemson and Baga and Ohio Taint and the other perennial top teams have all these problems infecting their roster every year?

Stop being such a dopey stooge of a mark. If you’re signing the wrong guys it’s on you. If you’re signing the right guys and not leading them strongly it’s also on you. That’s why you’re making $4M per. It’s not a sit back and hope for the best gig at $4M per; it’s a results game.

šŸ’Æ correct, and what he's describing is generational, it's not unique to UM, we've just done one of the worst jobs in all of college football of managing it.

Yes, it will be harder in the city Miami, but that's also nothing new either (hello 1980s), we've just failed as an AD to put the type of leadership in place that can manage this. It started the minute we panicked and hired Coker when literally every college football coach (and probably NFL) in the country would have taken this job.

This is also the reason why these dudes will keep leaving Miami early entering the NFL. For 3 years, they are in the club with NFL/NBA athletes and celebrities popping bottles. They want to do the same thing the quickest way they cans

all I know is Worsham and Restrepo look like divas. Yes, they work out at the IPF after hours, but it’s more of the ā€œhey, look at meā€ videos.

gotta call it out. Moss didn’t do it. Johnson didn’t do it. Wayne didn’t do it.

these guys are not cut from the same cloth. Hopefully 20ER can whip them into being testosterone pumping Tyrannosaurus rex’s god dangit!

I'm sure one of the guys he is talking about is Pickney...Dude was living (clubbing) like he was already in the league, similar to AQM, LoL.
