i have genuinely believed since the Peach bowl went to double zeroes and we knew we'd be playing IU, that the B10 CHGM was a realistic window into what we'll be facing tomorrow night. Some thoughts from that game:
  • Just an overall thought - this game happened after the regular season and is absolutely a barometer for how IU will measure up against us, so this is definitely relevant.
  • I'm watching this whole game wondering, "HOW? How did OSU not win this game??". The game was competitive, but just watching each play and the flow of the game, OSU outplayed IU and except for a couple of breakdowns in pass protection, they mostly controlled the LOS.
    • Now, I understand why most pundits were favoring OSU to win the natty AFTER this game. OSU is a better team than IU and if Mendoza is better than Sayin, it ain't by a mile, let's put it that way.
  • Simply put, OSU shot themselves in the foot time and time again. They had the ball 1st and goal and came away with no points at the end of one drive in the 2nd half. That would've put them ahead and probably given them the perfect season and easy ride to the natty instead of IU. Perception and recency bias is a real thing!
  • BTW, IU's kicker missed a 40 yard field goal and it was inside so there were no wind gusts to excuse it. I expect Cignetti to go for it on 4th down and short in our territory unless their on our 20 or in the red zone.
  • If the B10 refs called a fair game, at least a half a dozen of IU's best plays on O would've been called back. The IU OL was tackling the OSU DL and the B10 refs, play after play were like Shultz on Hogan's heroes. If 1/5 of the obvious no brainer calls were called, OSU wins despite shooting themselves in the foot.
  • OSU has a very good DL, but it's not elite and yet, they were mostly disrupting Mendoza and the O. As you all know, our DL is in a different stratosphere.
  • Again, it bares repeating - when you look at the flow of the game, etc. and of course the missed chip shot FG for OSU, it reminds me of our own SMU, LU & Ole Miss games. If OSU doesn't give the game away again and again, they probably pull away in the 4th quarter and beat IU the way we beat them.
  • I know this next statement isn't revelatory or anything new on CIS, but it is relevant - if OSU's trenches gave IU this much trouble, wait to see what happens when they meet ours. I'm absolutely convinced that we will dominate them in the trenches and control the clock.
  • I was already confident about us winning, but after re-watching this game, I dunno... I mean, IU better come with their A++++++++ game because we will own the trenches and they won't know what to do with it.

Good stuff

OSU is a better team than Indiana

Cignetti and Mendoza are a lot better than Day and Sayin though
I'm not a Sayin' apologist but I watched all of their snaps and Sayin outplayed Mendoza IMO. Regardless, after watching this, I feel REALLY good about tomorrow. They really haven't faced the kind of trenches and physical play that they're about to encounter. They can not flinch all they like, but if we play a B+ game, we win. If we play an A- game it's gonna be over two minutes into the 4th quarter.

But, anything can happen, so as always, we'll see, but I'm feeling confident.

I had the same exact thought watching that game, which I'll talk about a bit more in a post I'll put up later tonight.

For all the glazing IU gets, they looked extremely beatable against Iowa, Penn State, OSU, and Oregon the first time around. OSU is probably the closest analogue to an opponent they've played compared to us, except of course we have better trenches and running game. OSU could not get out of its own way. It's astounding that no team scored after the 8-minute mark in the 3rd quarter. At a minimum, OSU should've won that game by ten points.

IU is experienced and extremely well coached. They execute at a higher level than almost anyone. However, they're not 2019 LSU or some behemoth. Mendoza isn't the best QB we've faced, and they haven't seen trenches like ours.

What is everybody Sayin here?

On a serious note, Miami simply can't give this game awayike Penn State Fiesta Bowl or Louie, Louie, or SMU.

Miami's A is better than IU's A.

If the referees even kind of enforce holding I don't see how they beat us. They need seven pass protectors to block Bain, Moten, Scott/Blay, and Mesidor if they actually have to block them. Carter Smith is not in Mesidor's league as an athlete or player and for as bad as that matchup is their RT's, they play two of them (Benson and Ajani), vs Bain are much much worse. Their RT's can't legitimately block either Bain or Mesidor without a TE.

Bee saying this for a while now. It shouldn’t be close unless we make it close

Best defense and OL almost always win the National Championship game. 1-0 four #6

And ppl will swore up and down that IU played OSU better than us.

I am worried about the Big 10 refs.

Wats ur opinion on IU being able to slowdown OSU’s run game?

If we play our A-game, we'll win by at least two scores, at minimum. They needed just about every break and 50/50 ball to go their way to beat OSU 13-10. We are far more physical and better than that team.
A lot of people echo that. That’s a good team. But we’re much. Bigger and better.

Been saying this. When you watch what osu's defense did and what penn st offense did, you can see something.

We are better on D than osu. We are better on O than Penn st.

We don't shoot ourselves in the foot then this game is us by 10+.

Great write up OP. Admittedly I only watched the first half of IU/Oregon and I don’t care to watch any other IU games. I keep hearing that IU executes at a high level on both sides of ball. Ok, fair I won’t argue with that as I have not watched them play. However, if they operate at such a high level, how did they only score 13 points against OSU? Legitimately asking. And on defense, weren’t they helped by the fact that Smith hadn’t practiced in like 2 weeks?

Bo Jackson averaged 4.9 YPC in his 17 carries. They should have run him more. Would have won if they had.

The run stats only look bad cause the 29 yards Saying lost on sacks.
No they were getting stuffed. They had 2 series where it was working then we readjusted and stopped it. Good try tho. Indiana won’t run well on us just like the others.

I was talking about Jackson's performance vs Indiana. Ohio State's run game was actually pretty effective. If Ohio State can do that our run game should do 150+?
