Fresh watch of IU vs OSU game - notes and how it's pertinent to tomorrow night

in the goal play Ryan Day chose to pass on a 3rd and 1 and then on 4th and 1 he ran the QB who promptly put his knee down before eventually reaching the 1st down marker. I though all of his RB had hit the portal or something.
Yeah, QB probably could have run it in on 3rd down.

Another obvious point is Fletcher & Brown have to be on point in pass protection.

Sayin was god awful in this game the 1st drive he forced a ball on 3rd down intercepted gifted Indiana 3 points second drive missed Innis wide open in the middle of the field from a clean pocket and got sacked.

I had the same exact thought watching that game, which I'll talk about a bit more in a post I'll put up later tonight.

For all the glazing IU gets, they looked extremely beatable against Iowa, Penn State, OSU, and Oregon the first time around. OSU is probably the closest analogue to an opponent they've played compared to us, except of course we have better trenches and running game. OSU could not get out of its own way. It's astounding that no team scored after the 8-minute mark in the 3rd quarter. At a minimum, OSU should've won that game by ten points.

IU is experienced and extremely well coached. They execute at a higher level than almost anyone. However, they're not 2019 LSU or some behemoth. Mendoza isn't the best QB we've faced, and they haven't seen trenches like ours.
I feel more confident going into this game than I did Ole Miss. we ‘ll see if I’m right

I was talking about Jackson's performance vs Indiana. Ohio State's run game was actually pretty effective. If Ohio State can do that our run game should do 150+?

Few observations:
— Indiana OL regularly grabbed & held in pass protection. Need some flags
— WR. Becker is a problem
— IU will pressure Beck & so obviously can’t do anything stupid. Also use legs
— Mendoza is obviously talented, but Joe Burrow talk is a reach. Will escape pocket & make plays. Also can get rattled & loose with ball trying to escape. Need to get turnover.
— IU defense rallies to ball & tough running laterally against. Best running right at them.
IU secondary is solid & corners don’t allow much separation
— IU is not better than Ohio State
Their smallish dline relies a lot on movement/stunts/loops which we handle very well, the gameplan should be to lean on em as much as possible and stay ahead of the sticks. For as much talk as there is about them blowing us out, we are very capable of blowing them out too if we bring our A game tomorrow.

We didn't match up well against a team like Ole Miss. We match up about the same against Indiana as we did against Taint
Ohio State has better talent and are much deeper.

Indiana doesn't have edge rushers comparable to Curry and Jackson, don't have a interior DT comparable to McDonald, don't have a DB as dynamic as Caleb Downs (lulz to anyone saying Ponds is comparable), Jeremiah Smith/Carnell Tate/Brandon Innis > IU's WR's.....Ohio State simply has more elite talent.

Against our D-line their Oline matches up no better and arguably worse with the disasters they have playing RT and RG.

Wear out #4, #6 and #97 then feast.

i have genuinely believed since the Peach bowl went to double zeroes and we knew we'd be playing IU, that the B10 CHGM was a realistic window into what we'll be facing tomorrow night. Some thoughts from that game:
  • Just an overall thought - this game happened after the regular season and is absolutely a barometer for how IU will measure up against us, so this is definitely relevant.
  • I'm watching this whole game wondering, "HOW? How did OSU not win this game??". The game was competitive, but just watching each play and the flow of the game, OSU outplayed IU and except for a couple of breakdowns in pass protection, they mostly controlled the LOS.
    • Now, I understand why most pundits were favoring OSU to win the natty AFTER this game. OSU is a better team than IU and if Mendoza is better than Sayin, it ain't by a mile, let's put it that way.
  • Simply put, OSU shot themselves in the foot time and time again. They had the ball 1st and goal and came away with no points at the end of one drive in the 2nd half. That would've put them ahead and probably given them the perfect season and easy ride to the natty instead of IU. Perception and recency bias is a real thing!
  • BTW, IU's kicker missed a 40 yard field goal and it was inside so there were no wind gusts to excuse it. I expect Cignetti to go for it on 4th down and short in our territory unless their on our 20 or in the red zone.
  • If the B10 refs called a fair game, at least a half a dozen of IU's best plays on O would've been called back. The IU OL was tackling the OSU DL and the B10 refs, play after play were like Shultz on Hogan's heroes. If 1/5 of the obvious no brainer calls were called, OSU wins despite shooting themselves in the foot.
  • OSU has a very good DL, but it's not elite and yet, they were mostly disrupting Mendoza and the O. As you all know, our DL is in a different stratosphere.
  • Again, it bares repeating - when you look at the flow of the game, etc. and of course the missed chip shot FG for OSU, it reminds me of our own SMU, LU & Ole Miss games. If OSU doesn't give the game away again and again, they probably pull away in the 4th quarter and beat IU the way we beat them.
  • I know this next statement isn't revelatory or anything new on CIS, but it is relevant - if OSU's trenches gave IU this much trouble, wait to see what happens when they meet ours. I'm absolutely convinced that we will dominate them in the trenches and control the clock.
  • I was already confident about us winning, but after re-watching this game, I dunno... I mean, IU better come with their A++++++++ game because we will own the trenches and they won't know what to do with it.

It’s what everyone knows and has seen.

Indiana has gotten calls and played damnnnear perfect games from an execution standpoint.

They wait till you beat yourself. This is why everyone is picking Indiana. They don’t think maimi can play a clean game.

If Miami plays clean, limits bonehead penalties and wins the turnover battle #6 is staying in Miami. It’s that simple. Only team that can beat Miami is Miami. I have said it over and over throughout the year in many posts

LMAO! IU puts up 13 points (3 gifted by their D). Mendoza goes 15 of 22 (good), for 222, 1 TD, 1 INT and dudes are making videos slurping him and the IU offense. Am I in some kind of alternate reality? Beck actually had the higher QBR against OSU. He didn't make the big down field throws Mendoza did but he also didn't throw an INT and had a higher completion %.

Oh yeah for that ****** BIP who said Beck can't read zone coverage. Here's another for the scrap book (time stamped). Facing 3rd and 9 against C4;

Hits CJ Daniels for the 1st on a dig route to keep the drive alive. Lets Daniels clear the LBer's hook/curl zone and fires it in front of the safety with good placement in front of the WR. I'm sure he'd say the ball should have come out a tenth or two sooner, and that Indiana's "perfect" zone coverage would have broken on the ball faster and made the play to which I say he's an f'ing clown who thinks hospital balls are better than check downs that keep the offense on schedule. I haven't even been looking. I remembered the last few plays from the Ole Miss drive and just started watching that video of the Ohio State game, still in the 1st quarter, and I've found three downfield throws against zone all on 3rd down and long. I may have to ask him how many I need to find for him to do the honorable thing? 20? 30? 50? He didn't "panic" on any of those three. Stayed in the pocket and made very good throws with good to great ball placement.

all i see on that tape is that there is at least one Taint receiver wide open on almost every play and yet Sayin can't get them the ball.

He refused to take the check down even when his receiver was all alone
