Franklin Fired at PSU

With the name programs looking for head guys and the likelihood of a few more it’s going to be a good year for coach’s.
Imagine UF and FSU also in the mix and that’s a shallow pool of high quality candidates everyone will be fighting for.

The talent is there for what - 11 wins or 9 wins? It may not seem like much of a difference but in CFB, there's a big difference b/w 9 and 11 wins, imo. Top to bottom, I think they are generally a 9 win team on average. I think they'd be higher if they had a competent QB.

PSU recruits right around the 8-15 range and are close to ND and Michigan in terms of rankings. Compared to the rest of the B10, OSU and Oregon, are top 5 in terms of talent acquisition and then PSU/ND/Michigan are around the same.

PSU's biggest problem in terms of talent is that they haven't found a good QB in a loooong time.
They consistently have solid NFL picks with the exception of what you have already stated, QB.

Still, they have had decent QBs. Even Pribula, whom is now at Missouri, that’s a good college QB.

A coach that can identity a solid QB will win big at PSU if the level maintains of talent at the current levels of other positions.

I imagine Drinkwitz from Mizzou gets offered at least one of these higher profile jobs, maybe PSU offers him and he brings Pribula back with him

They may have had decent QBs on the roster but their starters have been complete meh (Pribula and Levis never really played). Even their first rounder - Hackenberg - was no more than pretty decent, imo.

Look at the starters the past 20 years:

Michael Robinson
Anthony Morelli
Darryl Clark
Rob Bolden
Matt McGloin
Hackenberg
Trace McSorley
Sean Clifford
Drew Allar

They may have put together a decent season here and there, but let's face it, lots of mediocrity.

The one that had the most success in the NfL in that list was Michael Robinson……… as a fullback in Seattle 😂😂😂

I was referencing from McSorley on (Franklin’s QBs) that they were decent in college and Clifford and McSorley I think are still in the league as 2nd or 3rd String QBs but if they can get bonafide QBs like Ohio State has had, my point was that with all of the other talent they have, they will be a real monster.

McSorley was probably their best. But yeah, I agree. They have enough talent to win with a really good qb.

Al Golden pick up line 1!
Except he would be the one calling them. “Hello? Penn State? Hey! This is Coach Al Golden. Al who?lol, Don’t be funny ma’am. Al Golden … PSU alum, former head coach at the U. I need to talk to your AD.

Honestly would anyone be surprised if PSU hired Rhule and Nebraska hired Franklin?

I think UCLA should go for Franklin tbh
This is basically exactly what UCLA needs to do. Just hand the program to an evaluator/recruiter. They'd consistently win games, and the coach wouldn't have rabid dogs breathing down his neck.

West side of LA would be ideal for his daughter

That would not be a bad fit tbh.

Firing Franklin just to replace him with Rhule would be a choice
Absolutely, that’s a sideways higher at Best! If I was them, I would’ve just kept Franklin another year and kept their recruiting class together to see if you could get someone better next year because Rhule isn’t it!
