Former player criticism of Offense

Our offense is ranked in the 70's. That doesn't match up with what we've recruited over the last 3-4 years. Teams with lesser talent are doing more.
This is the EXACT same argument we had with the last staff, particularly the defense

During the Golden/Dorito years we were loaded with 4 star players on D so it was like, what is the end game here? It’s not talent?

There are ****** OL across the country. The remedy is quick hitting plays to your playmakers in space. Who has significantly better playmakers that we do? Not many I would guess.

And same as those Golden days, if your players can’t execute, if that’s your excuse, then as a coach it’s your responsibility to fix that on the field. It’s not recruiting better players, or better fits, or any of that bull****.

Wrong! In the last 3 yrs Virginia had no 4* star athletes sign! All 2 and 3*! No better than ranked 58th in classes since Bronco became HC.... Nice try tho
You honestly couldn’t tell he was being over the top sarcastic?

And yet, we have people blaming position coRches for the consistent ****show we see.

Name a job where you are the boss and the **** doesn't end with you? Why we allow mediocrity at millions of dollars a year throughout sports is mind blowing.

I’m not allowing anything. I’m as frustrated as all of you. I just know where we are failing and it all doesn’t revolve around our offensive scheme. There is a lot to fixed and the talent level is one of them.

Since you want to use business analogies, name the company that has plowed through CEOs every three years when those CEOs didn't dominate in market share. You know, since we don't tolerate mediocrity.
Profit from conference marketing shares allow mediocrity no matter. Coaches are the capitalists in an unionized setting. They got it made.

Let me stir the pot. How about this, putting coaching and play calling aside, what about our talent. Our best three players, JT, Willis, DeeJay are out of state kids. TE Jordan, out of state. On average we don't sign the best Florida kids, they go elsewhere. We typically don't get the 5 stars, we get a few 4 stars that are close to elite and we get some serviceable 3-4 star kids. We are are a good team, not great and we won't be great until we have better coaching, better play calling and MUCH better talent. Talent at OL and QB is less than average. We have a three headed monster we have to fix before we stop losing to poor teams and start beating the elite.

You still need a QB who can get them the ball. Rosier can’t hit a swing pass on target to save his life. Those quick hitters take extreme accuracy so the player can continue to play on the run. Rosier twist and turns our WR around so the is no YAC to be had. I will say Perry seemed to do better with those throws.

Malik would never play a down for us, those are simple passes that with the talent we have would open up our play book and get pressure off Qb, Williams would have been my next man up. So disappointing. Feeling like I did hearing golden talk about our defense.

This is the truth here. Someone posted earlier we are not getting the best players from Florida, lolol, really, go look again man!!! Like this persons said talent is not the problem, coaching and plays are the problem, like under Golden’s defense.

Exactly...the talent argument is soooo weak. Listen, I get we aren't at the level of Bama/Clemson/OSU, but god **** we should be throttling everyone else 90% of the time especially in the awful Coastal.

Between both the Richts if they didn't think Rosier could handle it, even after seeing him all of last season, and the off field issues/development of Weldon/Perry they **** well should've went out and got a grad transfer. BUT you know **** well that wasn't gonna happen b/c CMR thinks he's the QB whisperer. I mean how are you in year 3 and don't have a serviceable QB??

We have below average QB’s so there are only so many things you can do offensively. Not making excuses for Richt because he has to try something but look at what we are putting on the field.

QB- Rosier(probably wouldn’t start anywhere else in D1)
Kosi&Cade- no clue what their problems are
Williams-Freshman

RB-our most solid group but no elite NFL talent showing yet.

TE-Two true freshmen and that’s it. Polendy sucks.

WR- two upperclassman and one wouldn’t play many at many other D1 Schools w/Langham.
Cager solid but overall average, nothing special and wouldn’t start at 50% of other achools
JT4 elite- have to get him the ball
Harley- Average
Pope,Wiggins,Hightower, Ezzard, Njoku all freshmen

LT- St Louis serviceable but wouldnt start at 50% of other schools
LG- Jones is trash, Boulware is solid but wouldn’t start at 50% of other schools
C-Solid but that’s it
RG-Donaldson should start to excel back at nature position.
RT- Scaife true freshman.

I mean how can any of you look at that and expect us to be something amazing on offense?

Pretty much zero talent with upperclassman. Doubt any of them make the NFL besides possibley Homer.

Then you have 9-10 true freshmen and sophmore playing starter snaps basically.

I’m honestly not sure where to place the blame. Some on Golden and the previous staff for leaving nothing in the tank on offense besides Richards and Homer and Richards is now done. Richt has only recruited two real full classes coming off of the Golden era and probation. This thing is going to take time to turn around and that’s all there is to it. We see what upperclassmen leadership and NFL talent can do for a team...just look at our defense. Offense is a couple of years away...the worry for me is the defense going to be able to reload after this class leaves? Not sure I see it in recruiting yet.
While this may be true, we still should be doing better with the athletes we have regardless of the situation and lack of experience. Richt needs to stop trying to out execute other teams only and actually beat them schematically by calling plays that will stress their defense and exploit their weaknesses

Why should we be throttling everyone else? This is what everyone keeps saying. Do we really have that much talent on our roster on offense? I don’t care about stars or what they did in high school. That **** doesn’t matter. Right now our offense doesn’t stack up well due to either lack of talent at the potision or the kid playing the position is a **** true freshman. It’s dissppinting but it’s the facts. 15 years of use thinking we have superior talent and 15 years of being proven wrong year after year. Time to face the music at some point for our fan base.

We haven't finished in the top 10 since 2004 and we should be 'throttling everyone'.

OK.

Hahaha. Maybe we don’t have all these “dogs” everyone always talks about. Maybe we just keep getting our ish pushed in by kids who bring their lunch pale to work each year. Maybe we have a bunch of soft players in the last who only cared about going to the NFL. I think Richt is still having to change that culture. It will take time.

When Richt gets his QB a lot of this will get solved really quick. Williams in 19 will lead a much more potent offense. I also hope Richt brings in some help for the offense and his son cuts his teeth elsewhere. Hire a new OL coach as well.

2016 with Kaaya

57th total O
37th scoring O
27th pass O

2019 will be better.

This is how it's always been. Florida athletes are meant to be the base of our roster. But more often than not, our more recognizeable players are not from South Florida (Ray Lewis (Lake Mary), Reggie Wayne, Ed Reed, Warren Sapp (I believe Apopka), DJ Williams, etc..).

Sure, we have some guys that are from South Florida that are blue chippers as well like Rolle, Taylor, Duke, Vilma, etc...

But this has always been the blue print for building Miami teams.

I agree. That's why I wasn't overly critical of the Clemson loss last season. Clemson out talents us by a good margin. Competing with them and Bama are one thing. Looking subpar against middle of the road ACC teams is an entirely different story; and it's not just Virginia we've struggled against offensively.
