I always wondered what Ryan Collins thought, given his massive success in college football.
This is simply the truth. It also doesn't mean Richt is blameless.
You guys do realize that QBs looking bad is on the OC and QB coach.
Thus far, the offense is surrounded by extremely high percentage throws (i.e., swing passes and slot screens) and very very low percentage throws (i.e., PA deep shots over the middle, sideline throws) with nothing in between.
There are multiple variations to get the ball to WR in different ways, but he takes a very very strange route. If you know you have a limited QB keep everything under 10-15 yards and create rub routes, more screens, with the occasional deep shot.
I'ts almost as if CMR is trying to prove he can call a pro-style offense and looking to get into the NFL.
Oh an another thing, keep blaming the wrong things, like ol play like we are getting from the richt camp. Good coordinator schemes around it when you have the type of skill players we have.
Is it possible that teams are playing coverages that Richt believes our QB’s can’t diagnose in terms of making the reads across the middle? I honestly dont Know and would like to hear that question asked him in a presser. Why do we avoid the middle?
We have never had elite olines it has always been about our athletes. Speed and size, not just size. Everybody hypes up our line when we won it with Dorsey but truth is we just had studs, he never really held onto the ball, dropped back and let it go man, or hand it off. We had a stud at every position. We utilized them much more effectively. Kids were coached better but we were loaded. That line was better no doubt but it wasn't built with blue chippers other than McKinnie. Play to your strengths and hide your weaknesses best you can. That is what good coaching is. If we had an elite oline we might be unstoppable.
Can someone explain to me the logic behind the exaggerated clap pre snap? Lots of teams do this and I’m not sure what purpose it serves
We have below average QB’s so there are only so many things you can do offensively. Not making excuses for Richt because he has to try something but look at what we are putting on the field.
QB- Rosier(probably wouldn’t start anywhere else in D1)
Kosi&Cade- no clue what their problems are
Williams-Freshman
RB-our most solid group but no elite NFL talent showing yet.
TE-Two true freshmen and that’s it. Polendy sucks.
WR- two upperclassman and one wouldn’t play many at many other D1 Schools w/Langham.
Cager solid but overall average, nothing special and wouldn’t start at 50% of other achools
JT4 elite- have to get him the ball
Harley- Average
Pope,Wiggins,Hightower, Ezzard, Njoku all freshmen
LT- St Louis serviceable but wouldnt start at 50% of other schools
LG- Jones is trash, Boulware is solid but wouldn’t start at 50% of other schools
C-Solid but that’s it
RG-Donaldson should start to excel back at nature position.
RT- Scaife true freshman.
I mean how can any of you look at that and expect us to be something amazing on offense?
Pretty much zero talent with upperclassman. Doubt any of them make the NFL besides possibley Homer.
Then you have 9-10 true freshmen and sophmore playing starter snaps basically.
I’m honestly not sure where to place the blame. Some on Golden and the previous staff for leaving nothing in the tank on offense besides Richards and Homer and Richards is now done. Richt has only recruited two real full classes coming off of the Golden era and probation. This thing is going to take time to turn around and that’s all there is to it. We see what upperclassmen leadership and NFL talent can do for a team...just look at our defense. Offense is a couple of years away...the worry for me is the defense going to be able to reload after this class leaves? Not sure I see it in recruiting yet.
Boom.UVA has far more talent. In fact, Bronco said before the season that he had maybe 27 at most ACC caliber players on his roster. I’m going to hate to see what happens when he has 60 or 65.
FSU playing mainly Cover 2/4 defense with low safeties, similar to how Notre Dame played us last year. I could tell during that game that the Mike Harley throw above the middle form NKosi on the Pa (which everyone claimed was incredible) was blind shot and locked on to the receiver. Threw it again vs. UVA and an easy interception happen and out he went. So I don't think CMR is wrong saying the guy doesn't know jack about coverages.
The middle is tricky, but not hard, you just have to manipulate the defensive players. He does it well with his Tail swing/QB draw RPO, just not from a passing concepts. Typically swinging out your tail especially is 3 or 4 wide vacant the middle between 5-15 yards, in all cover 2,3 and 4 looks.
But zone blitzing, all they do is, say blitz a corner and then fill in it after to bait the QB to throw it there, based on a hot read. Nkosi got another pick from that vs UVA.
I think CMR is probably right in saying Malik is a better QB, cause NKosi seems like a mental midget. Now NKosi has better attributes, i.e., bigger arm and throws the ball on a rope, but he's not mobile at all, less then Malik and have no clue what the defense is doing ever. Personally I think if Malik started that game for UVA we probably would have won.
Now don't confuse the above with me believing the Offensives scheme is good, cause it is garbage.
We don't need an elite oline, we need competent offensive coaches.Huh?
So you believe are offensive system is what is because of the QBs? The lack of motion and creativity is because of the QBs? Running the FB dive and never showing anything else in that formation is because of the QBs? Starting every play in the pistol and then having the RB move next to the QB is because of the QBs? The weird hand clap snapcount is because of the QBs? The constant all verticals is because of the QBs?
You can't be that blind man. Richt's offense is trash. The QBs suck but we aren't the only team with garbage at QB. That UVA kid couldn't throw pass 10 yards but they play to his strengths. Why is Richt trying to make Rosier something he's not instead of playing to what he actually does well. Same with Perry.
This guy is talking about the talent level but Richt is calling all verticals against a team that is giving WRs 7 and 8 yard cushions. A high school OC recognizes that after the first drive
Maybe he thinks if we throw and out route with a WB who has a middle arm that it turns into a pick 6 cause he is late on all of his throws? It’s not always as black and white as we think it is with play calling. I do agree going 4 verts all the time isn’t the answer either. Just bringing up the flip side of what can happen on a dog route not thrown properly. Our QB is really hampering is from doing much. How do you all not see that?
I’m not bringing up UVA. Why do y’all bring them up immediately. I’m taking about our offense overall verse the defense we face. I’m not talking about our overall team verse others teams. Strictly offense.
