Former Miami DL Joshua Horton is Moving to the SEC

You know what we should take some comfort from? That Kirby Smart thinks highly enough of our staff that kids have been coached up here where they must believe there is some potential.
Wouldn’t them taking two guys who were either terrible here or not available indicate the complete opposite???

Says to me they see two guys who have untapped potential that was not maximize by their previous staff

Y'all thought I was lying here.
That’s probably why we’ve barely heard from him since he arrived. The staff didn’t want others to get wind of his superior talents and lose him in the spring portal…

Well, we're both guessing.

Jaden is kind of a head scratcher. There's a lot of film on him and its not good.

Horton is the more interesting one I guess because there is some potential there. I'm not sure whether his lack of play was availability or just getting passed up.

Maybe we are but if we wholeheartedly agree on the bolded then we have to look at that Kirby’s a DB specialist plus they have TRob which tells me they either took Harris as a roster filler or they think he’s been underdeveloped and could reach his potential in their system.

Off the top of my head people that took OVs to UGA and ended up at Miami

Scott
Lowe
Carr
Popo

Pretty much who you would expect. I’d say before Mario and NIL it would be difficult to find more than 1 or 2 in ten years

Tough to fully judge who they really wanted sometimes. Guys like Pringle, Stafford, Toney I’m pretty sure they took UOVs but who knows how serious it was

I don’t have the stats to back it up but IIRC wasn’t UGA absolutely pillaged by the portal last year? Or maybe this year as well? I’m sure what you’re saying there’s probably a little bit of both going on

Problem isn’t letting Horton go. Issue is letting him go and not having a DT with his traits lined up. UGA is always looking for DTs with traits, they just hosted a kid from Alabama A&M. D$ just said we are done with the small G5 DTs, just for us to be linked to Boise DT that’s sub 6 foot. He’s just reporting what he was hearing but these coaches been here too long to assume a DT that’s 6’3 over 300+ isn’t going to be the most sought after player in the portal

Impossible! The numerous expert youth coaches and talent scouts on here told me he was terrible because he wasn’t a consensus all-American by his sophomore year.

Yeah, I know Carr was publicly committed to UGA for over a year... I want to say he flipped like 2-3 months before ESD. I'd usually consider that a strong indicator of legit interest, but who knows.

time for you to to regroup
If you read the original discussion, it was about Miami doesn't get HS recruits from Georgia that UGA/Bama/Auburn want.

The discussion was NOT about portal guys and on top of that you brought up two mediocre Portal guys.

Kirby believes/knows hes a better db coach than anything we have.

Jaden is 6'0 200 and likely still runs around the 4.4-4.50 mark...he figures he could get something out of that.

Same with Horton he has good size and can play the 5 tech there at 6'3-6'4 295-300.

Both Atlanta kids and both they get fairly easily n likely on a discount.

Seems like we’ve closed the gap a little bit (pause?) on programs like this anyway. Well as far as recruiting. They certainly didn’t fear us until the bags got legal

they werent mediocre enough to not start there quite easily.

I aint look at the original discussion...but more than likely your wrong there as well a bit.
They recruited Horton and Ny carr was a commit there off head. I mean we arent that heavy in georgia but are you saying georgia recruits strictly?.

I mean what are we doing here either way...they just grabbed 2 guys that were consider castoffs from here basically. Are you snubbing your nose at that or somehting?.

Look where he is from:

It appears this is strategic.

They are going after a few kids that may have been on their board in hs....let them get their feet wet at other teams then double back n have them fill holes for cheap...

look where the kid is from.

Also we should offer that kid right now as well

What a weird thing to say .... "I'm not reading what you wrote but you're wrong."

I didn't say we don't recruit HS guys from Georgia, and didn't say they haven't taken some Miami guys from the portal.

I said when UGA/Bama/Auburn really want a kid out of HS that lives in Georgia, we don't get them.

Carr was the first commit of UGAs class and we know from experience how often the first guy committed is eventually processed out. It's happened practically every year at Miami for 10+ years.

Maybe UGA still loved Ny Carr and wanted him (or maybe they saw he had neither elite size nor speed), but one guy in ten years doesn't change the fact that when the UGA/Bama/Auburn trio want a HS kid from Georgia 95%+ of the time they get them.

you were wrong TO ME just based off of Carr. Which is why i didnt need to read. And they recruited Horton a bit as well.

Now you are doing semantics in reference to Carr but he was a uga commit that we flipped. I dont give a f if he was a commit when he played pee wee ball it what he was. lol

On the bolded except when Clemson is involved.

But im gonna somewhat agree with you its a tough, tough pull for a ga kid if uga, auburn, bama involve i mean its due to proximity and sec hypnotizing. That said Clemson deebo's who they want out of georgia whenever they want and tell's uga f u

Agreed on Clemson.

I was referring to UGA/Bama/Auburn vs Miami for a Georgia kid, which we lose 95% of the time.

We should offer right now.

All of it is strategic. My thing is the way we offer OL, I wish we took the same approach with DTs. There are kids with the traits imo we should be pursuing more aggressive in HS.

A couple examples down below of who we were recruiting and who I think we should’ve taken off general principle of needing guys that were bigger(pause)
