Former Cane Brandon Meriweather's restaurant in Orlando

Miami is a much bigger metropolitan area, has been established as a big city for much longer, and has a larger population.

Tampa is a motherfvcking joke. I am over there all the time, I was just there 2 weeks ago (and PwC took me out to dinner). Bern's and a few others, and then there is a major drop-off down to Outback-affiliated chains.

I'm here in Orlando so I will definitely go check it out. Rock Springs Road in Apopka? My sister lives right next to the corner of Welch and Wekiwa Springs so that is extremely close. I'll go sometime in the next 2 weeks and post a full review.

The Restaurant trade in Orlando isn't much to Hoot and Holler about...aside from a few really good places...I'm an Executive Corp Chef here in Central Fl....have Chef friends all over the state...However, there are a couple of places I truly treasure....

That’s dope my best friend just left Orlando for LA as a Chef for the Palms Resorts.

I recently sold my house in Horizons West,
I lived in Orlando for 3 years and the food is nothing to rave about, but

1. Columbia for a really good dining experience
Columbia Restaurant
2. Giordano’s for deep dish Chicago style pizza
Find a Giordano's | Pizza Delivery & Carryout | Dine-In
3. Stonington’s for shrimp
Stoningtons Fried Shrimp
4. Nikki’s Place for soul food
Home
5. Capital Grille for an ‘Old fashioned’
Orlando - Millenia | Locations | The Capital Grille Restaurant

That’s all I got.

Love capital grille and giordano’s but how about non-chain top 5?

Tee....If you haven't had a sandwich at Brocato's in Tampa....Then GO.....I'd drive 25miles outta my way for that place....

**** yes..was just there on Friday & had the buffalo chicken sandwich. Every sandwich I’ve ever had from there was excellent.

Datz & Dough has great food also

It's a lot less about having a "gimmick" (I know I'm using that term liberally) than it is about having good management.

The more intriguing thing is "manages rental properties," which if he is renting out properties he owns... yeah, that's what you should be doing, and something that typically provides a little leeway to take gambles like restaurants.

Spot on.

I hope he’s making a ton of money on his rental properties, and I hope he beats the odds and is successful with his restaurant investment, because, as you said, over 90% of the time, flamethrowing your cash has a better ROI

I agree, there are several good spots in South Tampa, but that is a very small piece of Tampa. For all the farm-fresh food coming out of Plant City and Lakeland, most of Tampa, St. Pete, and Clearwater are devoid of good food spots EXCEPT for seafood. Seafood is excellent in the Bay area.

.

Channelside has decent eating also. My ole lady is in love with Jackson’s Bistro.

Agreed. They have the best Mother’s Day brunch ever!!!!!!!

A ton of money is being spent to remake the channelside area. The food there should only get better.

True..small piece but plenty of great restaurants to accommodate all that old Tampa money that’s in south Tampa.

St Pete has some spots too. Haven’t been over to Clearwater to eat.

Good lord.

Columbia is excellent, it is a Florida institution, they've been around for about 100 years (no joke, first one was in St. Augustine). Nikki's Place is excellent too, but I believe it burned down, and they are rebuilding.

And that is without even mentioning any national chains (Capital Grille, even though they are based in Orlando), local chains, like 4Rivers, and completely leaving out all of the places on Disney property, Universal property, I-Drive, and Restaurant Row. Seriously, have you ever been to Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian or The California Grill in the Contemporary?

There are more good restaurants on Disney property than there are in all of South Tampa.

Hmmmm...wonder if he will have the game Saturday? Perhaps a few fans could meet there if so?

Orlando ***** on Tampa for food and night life in general. Downtown Tampa is awful. You have a few ****hole college bars in the SOHO area or risk getting shot or stabbed in Ybor. I've seen him a few times in apopka. Dude is huge in person. Can smell reefer on him from 20ft away.
