Fork in the Road

With these bloated leagues and unbalanced conference schedules, you just never know.

Last season regular season:

SMU won 11
Miami won 10
Clemson won 9
Syracuse won 9
Duke won 9
Louisville won 8

This year you could have 4 teams win 10 or more in ACC.

Its not some impossible thing.
Ga tech is dangerous when healthy.

I swear every season has been the pivotal, turning point, make-or-break season since the Fiasco Bowl. I remember thinking after that "well we're either gonna use this disrespect as fuel and come back even stronger or we're gonna fold and never recover." That was 22 years ago. This program has taken more ****** forks than a busboy at a Ruby Tuesday salad bar.

So even though he’s ascending and brings in players with a better resume than last year you know he can’t take the next step? So he can turn it around but only plateau? Interesting.
Pretty easy to follow. I said my opinion. It is shared by many on here. He’s a good program builder. He was a necessary hire. That doesn’t make him a championship caliber coach. You don’t have games like Georgia Tech happen if you’re an elite coach. It is what it is. Still a fan.

I guess my point is Ryan day is good for 2 losses a year even with an ungodly budget can’t be an average Michigan team to save his life . Sarkisian was average before Texas bankrolled him. Harbaugh backslid to 8 wins in year 3. Took him 3 years after that to finally win a natty. Kiffin vomited all over himself last November. I get it I do the perceived talent advantage we have in recruiting within the acc should yield better results. All I’m saying is Mario has similar results to most coaches that most on this board see as far superior than him.

Fantastic point. Don’t disagree with any of that. If you remember, Ryan Day seat was extra crispy going into last year. Often times the margin of error on making or breaking it is razor thin. I can definitely see a world or Mario has a break go his way and ends up with a dynasty. Bad game day coach but excellent CEO. I’d love for it to be the latter but not getting my hopes up.

Day was an offensive guy and OSU went ahead and brought in a 2 million dollar offensive coordinator to try and get them over the hump

I like Dawson a lot but it kinda puts things in perspective. I know we aren’t a TEMU university but some of these programs are just spending absurd amounts on analysts and assistants

Exactly. And to further what I was trying to say, I don't think Day is some great coach now. I think he is who he is. Might coach better now that the monkey is off his back (plus momentum) but the margin on success is very finicky.

The last 3 years we’ve lost or have been in dogfights with mediocre teams almost every week. It was a literal miracle we didn’t end up 8-4 last year with 2 improbable comebacks.

Why is this the year we start playing to our potential for a full season?
Our best team EVER struggled to beat Boston College.. Just win the **** games .. by 1 or 100 idc just WIN

I think your post points to a bigger picture that with Saban, Urban, and Harbaugh all out of college coaching, outside of maybe Kirby Smart, there aren't a lot of coaches out there that scare the heck out of me. Lincoln Riley has lost some luster, as has Dabo. A lot of success now simply boils down to how much is the administration or boosters putting into the program. That likely correlates far more to success than any particular coach. I'm not a Mario apologist, but would OSU or Texas have different results if we replaced Day and Sark with Mario? I don't really think so.

Short, sweet, and simple.

Miami history is too rich to go in vain. Mari, for all his deficits at least knows what it looks like. (Suppose to look like). Somehow this year, we get home to the playoff.

I think they may be the best team in the country and I don’t believe we are in that conversation yet.
They lost 4 games last year and got their *** kicked in 3 of those loses. Not ready to say they're the best team in the country, let alone one of the best 5-6 teams.

And Virginia Tech 3 weeks later.

Winning all your games is really, really hard. The smelly ****sticks in Hogtown have been playing football for 100 years and have never done it.

Just win enough to get into the playoffs. That's not too much to ask in this conference with this talent and this budget. Whether that's 13 wins or 9 wins, I don't care. Make the college football playoff.

Don't disagree with that either and I would argue it's easier to get a player than it is to get an assistant coach
