Let's walk through this AGAIN, because some of you refuse to understand what actually happened. in 2004 the Voters approved a bond package to renovate the OB. Unfortunately, the bond package didn't come close to doing anything other than keeping the building from collapsing on itself, and even then, the City took their sweet time doing any major work. As it became obvious that the Marlins wanted the OB site, and they had greased the right palms, Manny Diaz Sr. gave UMiami a garbage offer, knowing full well that Miami could not afford to spend nine figures to renovate a building that they didn't own, and wouldn't be able to maximize revenue out of, BECAUSE THE CITY REFUSED TO SELL US THE BUILDING AT A SENSIBLE PRICE. It was a poison pill offer, and when Miami didn't take it(Because no rational person would), it cleared the way for the Marlins to get the site they wanted. It was all a con job by Diaz Sr., and to this day I'm amazed that anyone would let him anywhere near the University to begin with.

It’s the same recycled discussion we had years ago. The team struggles, attendance lags, the excuses begin for Miami needing an on campus stadium. In 2017, the stadium got renovated, the team was good and all of the sudden nobody cared about an on campus stadium anymore. If they want to build a REAL stadium somewhere down there, go for it but I’m yet to see any plans that would logistically work. It’s just a pipe dream for people in southwest Dade who don’t want to drive to Miami Gardens right now.

I think it would go over pretty well if they built a nice structure too. We just built a 1,300 car parking deck that looks nice and it was $25 million. They'd be looking to have what... 300 spaces?

And this is what happens when you dont own. Who is to say the Fins next owner doesn’t jack up the rent to some ridiculous non feasible amount? Be held at ransom and pay it? Smdh. OWN YOUR OWN SH*T if you can!

With the hiring of DRad, I have to imagine the first thing he'd want to begin building towards is a Clemson-like football facility. So where would you put it?

I don't think it can be worked within the Hecht's current footprint, seeing as that's the headquarters for all sports and we can't afford to lose use of that space for the time it would take for construction.

I think the intramural fields would serve as a good location, but is it feasible? Where else on campus could something that large go?

You are not taking away the intramural fields. Believe it or not there are actually students who use those field every day. Additionally, those fields are where club sports practice.

Where's the con job though?

It isn't the cities responsibility to provide a stadium for us to play in or renovate and modernize properly. When I say the city, I mean every citizen in it having to pay through taxes to make it happen.

We don't have to like it, but they made a decision that worked out better for the city. There's no reason they need to offer us anything at a sensible price, we were tenets, nothing more.

That ship has sailed. And, what's the difference between being 10 miles or 30 miles (whatever the mileage is) from campus? Neither would be a "Clemson-like" facility. If it's not within walking distance, it's not on campus. As for that, we have a nice on-campus basketball arena. Haven't seen that add much at all to student attendance.

Love it. I too wouldn't mind the stadium being in someone else's neighborhood. Wouldn't care about it at all.

Let them deal with the traffic, trash, drunkenness, municipal costs involved to keep the neighborhood safe from the influx of cars and people. It's not my problem...until it is.

Just DON'T put that stadium anywhere near my neighborhood and drive down my property's value.

Oh, I know anything on campus or even near campus is complete fiction but I do like the idea of Miami having their own stadium.
 
Eventually, something is bound to happen where HRS is no longer viable. A new owner, maybe wants a new stadium, maybe wants to move/relocate, maybe wants to charge UM more money. Its going to happen. And how embarrassing would that be for a top program like UM if it is left scrambling to find a new location for the SECOND time? How embarrassing would it be to have to ASK FIU to share?

Jesus. Can you see us having to troop up to Camping World because nobody had the foresight to build a facility down here and we can’t play at HRS?

The emphasis is IF YOU CAN. That is the problem. Miami building a facility, just for the sake of it, just in case of some random event is pointless. Miami is in the same boat as Pitt, UCLA and other major schools located in a major city, where they don't have space available for a stadium. This is why Pitt's decision to abandon Pitt Stadium was egregious, they had a spot and voluntarily gave it up. Miami has NEVER had their own on campus stadium in the modern era, and it isn't happening unless South Miami gets wiped out thanks to a natural disaster, or someone decides to try to expand campus across Granada, and buy out all of those houses, and somehow, some way gets CG to sign off(Which is extremely unlikely). Miami can't claim eminent domain and take over those houses, Miami isn't located in some awful part of town, where they can easily wipe out the local residents and no one would care.

People also need to stop acting like the Dolphins aren't receiving a ton of benefits from the arrangement, especially if Miami wins big. Dolphins are getting revenue from an additional 6-7 dates, including premium seating, parking and concessions. That's a nice chunk of change, and that's without the Dolphins not having to do anything.

The con job was Diaz Sr. convincing our dumbass fanbase that his poison pill offer was legitimate and then blaming the University for not spending hundreds of millions of dollars to renovate a facility that we would NEVER own. That's the con. By the way, the deal they made is one of the worst deals ever made for a sporting facility by a municipality. I'm convinced the typical Miami fan hates the University so much, they will believe anything, if it furthers that narrative. The City of Miami screwed the University, all to give a baseball franchise a sweetheart deal on a boondoggle.
