For those absolving Mario and the staff...

There are a select few on here, but it’s more so what you see when you go on social media and what you overhear from a lot of our fans who go to the games.
Exactly. When I made this thread it wasn't based on CIS- we're a much tougher crowd when it comes to coaching criticism even if Mario has more devotees around here than some of our past coaches and corches.

In-person interactions and social media banter were my sauces. As I prefaced it with earlier- everything is obviously anecdotal but there ARE often different currents on social media and in real life with the fanbase than you get on CIS even if we're mostly the more informed contingent overall.

I have us losing to Clemson obviously. vt is awful but its a road game and w the injuries, who knows what we are then. I have FSU as a toss up. I have us losing to UVA bc why the **** not. GT may get us too.
Take Saturdays off then if you have that kind of optimism going forward lol not being a homer but lawd.

7-5 with a bowl win to finish the season with 8 wins is where I’m at. Stay competitive, finish with a top 10 class, dig in the portal, scout for young innovative coaches and continuing growing.

i can be realistic. I dont need to shoot up hope like its heroin lol. the team is what it is. its been poorly coached, roster full of holes, and makes a ton of mistakes. it can change but were 2-3 during the easy part of our schedule. not exactly hope inducing

Give me 8 million, I can beat BC and Southern Miss. Mario ain’t winning 8 games this year and that would be a million dollars per game if he did. This team has big issues.

Because Mario is taking this roster and trying to make it do what he wants to do instead of just playing with what’s he got

It’s how you make decent (enough) talent look like it’s never played football before. Make an entire roster of guys do things they aren’t good it.

Great strategy.
What are the guys on the roster good at?

On a football field I mean.

If that's the formula, why not just keep Diaz for less than half the cost? He probably gets 7-5, near top 10 class, and worked the portal better than Mario IMO. He also got a somewhat innovative coach as OC. Seems like we pushed reset just to start with a vastly more expensive Diaz. If Mario doesnt land a top 8 class this year, it been a failure of a season and a giant waste of money.

I understand and agree that social media can be used as a sampling that should be proportional to the general mindset of the community/fan base.

Any good sound opinions and criticism are fine with me, however, I’ve read a lot of posts here that are not, but instead are as I said J. Springerish. Regardless, people can almost say whatever they want unless it crosses the RVA line and they get wacked... governance is usually a good thing.

...and basically describing the roster as too full of kids beyond or incapable of "fixing".

Are you satisfied with what Mario did via the Portal to fix this then?

I'm personally not firing anybody on the staff yet and understand Mario has and will have as much job security as any coach in CFB. That said, with the change in transfer rules and the fact that Mario & Co. had plenty of time to evaluate what was left in the cupboard for them- is it reasonable to just blame the players? Good coaches do wayyyy more with wayyyyy less every Saturday. Good coaches also immediately change "culture" issues too.
This team doesn’t make winning plays that’s all I can say only losing plays. Now the staff has to help them better I’m still distraught over the 1st and goal where Mario has to go goaline to try and play big boy ball instead of letting TVD make a play

I feel relying on the portal is a crapshoot. You never know what you are getting. Kids in the portal more times than not going play at their previous schools so what are the odds they are going to light it up at their next spot?

Well guys.. HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING (MARIO). Proof is in the pudding my fellow Canes.

I said we missed in the portal in April. Colbie Young could be a silver lining if this wasn't just a fluke testament to UNC. QB, WR, DE are most important positions. We needed to hit on 2 of the 3.
That diving catch was not a fluke lol.

I agree with you 100%. This team is facing a 7-5 type of season if we're lucky. So we paid twice the dollar amount to get the same results that Manny did. At this point the only thing that can justify this is Mario landing a top 5-8 recruiting class.

Anyone think that Blades knew he couldn't step out of bounds and be the first to touch that onside kick? The team IQ is ****e.

If I see another cafecito media story the sh*t was beyond old 4 years old in Lispy‘a first year . Just win baby that’s all that matters nobody cares what your breakfast, lunch or dinner beverage is.

Too many non-coaching mistakes...so obvious a layman can see it...to even have honest discourse about coaching.

I thought it was reasonable to expect 4-1 at this point. Even after seeing the games unfold, its hard to think that this team isn't closer to 5-0...every game was winnable. However, we were wrong. This team just isn't very good. It happens. Maybe we should have known a team that was put together and evaluated by Manny Diaz would not be good...but here we are.
Last years staff has us at 4-1 right now. Just saying.

maybe I missed it but how many of the “clock management sucks” posters are giving Mario credit? 10 points in 2 minutes in first half. Got ball back with a chance to win/tie with 1:14? you aren’t going to get much better than that IMO. My only complaint, way too many 5 yard passes on the last drive but UNC was playing soft making it tough to get open past the sticks.
