Fletcher pass blocking

That’s what I was wondering. Is there a scenario that Fletcher comes back for another year?
Hopefully he has another playoff run like last year adn he can ride that wave of being the leader on championship team, open gm eyes to his value but nfl is very unforgiving and no better example than how the rb position is treated and valued..

These kids dream is to still go to NFL and they can be leaving a more profitable situation because of it.. Even his mom dam near getting NIL, Hope it plays out..

He should move to RG, then.

The best rbs are always the best runners but you have to at least be solid in pass pro to be a 3down back or some teams will hesitate to feature you in the offense
I agree pass pro has some affect on a RB's playing time. But different coaches/coordinators have different tolerance levels.

IMO there's a much wider range of RB's who actually play. There's plenty of good runners (not great or elite) who are bad in pass pro that still play a good role for their team.

PFF ranked 140 RB's in Pass Protection in 2025

Here's all the RB's that played 150+ snaps and didn't crack the Top 100 (and where they rank)

IMO these are all below solid/average pass blockers, but a wide range of talent levels that played a sizeable role

100 - Aaron Jones
101- Kenneth Walker
102 - Devon Achane
103 - Ashton Jeanty
105 - Bijan Robinson
106 - Kyle Monangai
108 - Treyveon Henderson
109 - Chase Brown
111 - Ty Johnson
114 - Jordan Mason
115 - Rico Dowdle
116 - Ollie Gordon
117 - Alvin Kamara
118 - Sean Tucker
119 - Dylan Sampson
121 - Bucky Irving
125 - Quinshon Judkins
126 - Brian Robinson
127 - Omarion Hampton
128 - Tank Bigsby
130 - Cam Skattebo

Probably 3rd or lower.. In all honesty, make more coming back for 5th year
Selfishly I'm happy Fletcher came back - but I've always said he should've gone pro last year.

I've always thought Fletcher is a Day 3 RB. Leaving last year when his name was red hot in a weak RB draft was probably his best chance at Day 2

Fletcher is a very good pass blocker (best in America is kind of funny, but whatever...) but that only takes him so far.

To go Day 2 - the more of these boxes he checks, the better his odds are:

Continue to be the #1 guy on a Top Ranked team
Average 5.6+ ypc
Don't miss more than 2-3 games
Have 180+ yds receiving this year
Test better than expected athletically
Run under a 4.6 40 (but I wouldn't expect him to run at all)

If you watch the Wake defender coming in, even he thought SJ was going to be waiting on the other side of RR, and he sidestepped Fletcher, waiting for the impact. Not saying Fletcher couldn't have hit him, but I think the defender and Fletcher were thinking the same thing.
No one is perfect or will make every play. It is impossible to expect that from any player. However, Mr. Fletcher is batting close to .1000 when it comes to blitz pickups. But again, no one is perfect. The dude is a stud blocker and RB. Put some respek on his name.

Just a rock solid college football player, and for how good he is on the field, he's probably a better leader for the rest of the locker room. A true pillar of everything Mario has built and is building.

And I've said this plenty but I'll repeat it, his feet have gotten SO MUCH better just since the middle of last year. I have no idea what the **** happened during that 2 game stretch he missed towards the end of last season, but he's been a different player since then.

Go rewatch the 9 play drive where we ran the ball down their throats to effectively take their souls on Saturday night. He had 2 runs to start that drive, first for 14 yards and then for 18 yards. Go back and watch the first one, and watch the cut to the outside against Ashton Hampton. Those are ELITE feet for a 225 yard back. He breaks Hampton's ankles and hits the sideline for a 14 yard gain. And then puts his power on display on the next snap for 18 more.

What a **** good football player.
It is strange it’s like he become elusive all of a sudden.

Before he would seem to find a way to trip into someone in the open field.

So happy for the big guy! True Hurricane!

Pringle removed from KR, and passed up by a true freshman on the depth chart, it’s ok to say he’s just an average back. Had a couple good games last year, then benched for the playoff run.

He is what he is, a nice depth piece

IMO you don't need to be elite (you can just be good) to overcome pass pro deficiencies - but we'll probably just disagree on that.

I quickly googled "who was the best pass blocking RB in the (year) NFL draft" and this is what I got:

2026 - Kaytron Allen - 6th RD
2025 - LaQuint Allen - 7th RD
2024 - Jaylen Wright - 4th RD
2023 - Roschon Johnson - 4th RD

If RB pass pro is really that important - then why aren't these RB's drafted higher & playing more?

There are only a dozen or so 3 down backs in nfl
Most teams have a third down back to block or screen with.
Pringle is a liability blocking. It’s that simple. And with our OLine this year not being as dominant - they can’t afford to play him as much as they NEED to keep Mensah clean!!!

Lol, whatever you say man

Pringle can run and catch. And has proven it. You say he can't pass block yet his pass blocking has been fine to average. You just make **** up and overinflate the value of pass blocking significantly. Pringle should absolutely play more, Pretty simple. You think the most important thing a RB can do is block. I happen to think it's Run and Catch.
It’s more important THIS YEAR w the state of our oline
Mario Shannon Mirabal is not going to let Mensah get hurt due to lack of protection

It’s really that simple. We have adjusted based on personnel and strengths of team this year

I’m confused. What are you going on n about?

Every year and every game is a critical game to require great pass blocker on the field. Pay no attention to how well that player does as a WR also. Tell me Fletcher is the best pass blocking RB in college….why is he never on the field in clear passing downs or 2min drives in playoffs? Could it be because he didn’t provide enough as a receiving threat? Could it mean that obviously there is some equilibrium point between usefulness as a pass threat vs adequacy as a blocker? Could it be that when Pringle is on the field you limit how often he is being asked to block in the first place? Did you know our RBs are asked to block 30% of PASS REPS. So not even of total reps. In total it’s probably like 15% of reps?

What quality runner and receiver does Pringle have to be for yall to say he should get more burn? Does he literally have to be Gibbs? ….

Team this year has a Different build imo
Last year we wanted to run more
And could
This year we have Mensah but Oline is not as good
I honestly think they’re worried about Mensah taking a huge hit
It’s not the Pringles not a good player. I believe he is as well and gives us a different gear, but they are thinking it’s not worth the trade-off at least as of yet that’s just my opinion.

if we had access to player on field data, I have a feeling we would see Fletcher is playing a ton of 3rds on meaningful drives. Remove up 3 scores.

If you haven't noticed EACH of the other 3 RBs has made CRITICAL pass pro rep mistakes. Fletcher had a very good game in pass pro this game, and he usually does. Yet what was it week 2/3 that he got Mensah blown up for not even attempting to block a free rusher? Mallory did the same? So My point is how come Pringle can have like 1-2 bad pass pro reps all last season and THAT is enough to call him a **** pass protector who can't even play because of it (nothing said negatively about his effort during pass pro btw) yet in each game our other RBs have screwed up yet they're allowed to continue playing as much? lmao. Fletcher? Obviously. You're telling me Mallory is so signficantly more proven in pass pro? Or could it just be that he is a bigger back so everyone just says he's better..... lol

Yeah they default to bigger backs, no disagreement. I'm saying they shouldn't be. Look at how effective pringle is as a dump off threat. It's far more than Lyle has ever been (including as a runner too btw). Mallory I can't say for sure yet. Mallory does look like he will be much better than Fletcher as a receiving option from what I've seen and maybe as a whole better than Brown too (in pass + receiving).... But its tbd with him still. The people just defaulting to he's so much better in protection than Pringle are funny to me though.

low sample size this yr, but I said I'd keep posting it as long as it works in my arguments favor lol
