Flake wants more $ for IPF and already justifying Sun Life

That's not even intellectually honest.

Any basic accountant (even wherra) would know how to shuffle funds around to make anything happen that the admin want's to happen. And that's exactly what is going on at The U. The admins won't let the athletic dept., most importantly the football program, have access to the funds needed to succeed.

Despite the fact that a winning football program is one of the biggest sources of income a university can ever hope to have.

So what your saying is UM should allocate funds to football that were given to the school for other reasons with hopes of making that money back by the time those funds are actually needed? We could just get a long term bank loan opposed to ****ing over those who do donate to academics.

You are acting like no monies can be shuffled around. I don't want to attack you personally but your view on this is ignorant and flat out wrong.

The university can allocate anything they want to wherever they want. Sure if someone donates $4 million for jock straps then that money is to be used for jock straps. What about the money that was already allocated for jock straps? Does all that just stay in the jock strap fund?

Only at Miami.

Problems with funding arise when someone donates millions to the football program and then the university decides that because of that donation they don't need to allocate their normal amount of monies to the football program because, hey someone else already took care of our most basic needs....what a joke.

At Bama/LSU/ND/USC/Osuk those monies go where they are needed most.

If someone donates money it gets used for that purpose. UM gets a lot of money for research and health and thus that money can not be used for football. If it was it would jeopardize our relationships with those who donate. If money us donated for football then yes the money gets used for that.

In your example the money allocated for jock straps would go back to whatever fund it came from. If it was from the football fund then it would go back there. If two people were giving 4 million for jock straps the school would probably tell the second one that offers that they don't need the money for that and perhaps suggest would the money could go for football related.

The school could take a loan out while it runs a fundraising drive but it has choose not to do that.

So at the end of the day we both admit that UM has plenty of money for corches, facilities and jock straps they just choose to use it on tongue depressors instead.

UM does an average job raising money for the school but a big portion of this money comes specifically ear marked for research or other academic needs.

Here is my opinion on UM's athletic shortfall.

1) UM is in a market where those who have money are largely uninterested in giving to football at either the high school or college level
a) UM struggles to raise money for athletics which is proven by lack of large donations compared to other schools of similar size
b) The pay for high school coaches in Miami is one of the worst in the country
c) The facilities for high school players in Miami are some of the worst in the country
d) There is just too much to do on a Friday night and Saturday afternoon in Miami to worry about football

2) UM does a poor job at promoting it's athletics to current and former students as well as businesses
a) Lack of visible student frustration on campus after this season when compared to schools in similar situations
b) Lack of big money boosters when compared to other schools with similar academic standings

At the end of the day UM football doesn't have facilities or coaches because UM accidentally got good at football and the school doesn't real care if it stays good at football. We don't have money in our football bank account because we rather have it donated to other bank accounts.

You know why Al Golden is still our coach and is getting full support?

Because when he talks he sounds smart and educated. You could introduce Golden to a CEO type and he will do fine. If Miami wants to become the Harvard of the south then we found our coach. If Miami wants to be a winner you go find a guy that is good at winning.

If Alabama had as much talent within 30 minutes of campus what do you think they would do? Their boosters would pay for facilities and coaches at those high schools. You would find free learning centers all over to keep kids in school. They would clean up when recruiting came.

No one cares about winning at UM and my proof is our current coach, AD, and facilities

I don't disagree with any of that.

UM's admin doesn't give a **** about football. If they did they would budget much more money for it and let the accountants figure out the details.

As it is we get Gorlden. The most feckless corch in the Power 5 + independents.

Honestly it's not even an athletics thing...its a University of Miami thing. There is so much money going towards research and medicine as well but a lot is not getting done according to someone who works in the healthcare field there told me. He mentioned a lot of talented, bright doctors going elsewhere b/c they are sick with the same crap us fans are sick with...aka higher ups that aren't the brightest or driven along with greed.

What's there to justify about Sun Life?

- We don't have the money to build one of our own.

- We have a long term lease with the owner there and I don't imagine he's in a rush to let us out of it.

- We don't have another option right now.

Phins place isn't ideal, but due to various reasons, it's what we've got. Until someone comes up with a plan to change that, it's where we'll be. No excuses, it's unfortunately just the way it is.

If UM has money it could spend on facilities then it would.

I would be more inclined to believe that if in the year 2015, they weren't just now getting around to putting up some lights on a practice field. That doesn't exactly indicate a burning desire to be at the forefront of sports infrastructure construction. It would be like if the CEO of a car company came out and said, "Safety has always been paramount for us here at Car Co. it's what we strive for and what we focus on the most. That's why we're pleased to announce that starting in 2016, every vehicle we manufacture will have brakes."

UM never put lights up because they always practiced during the day. Practicing at night is an Al Golden thing. UM does not have millions sitting in some random football fund that they don't want to spend.

How are they going to pay for the buyout with Sun life if the beckham deal comes to fruition? According to what Donna tells the students the deal is all but done (which I don't buy for a second)

Maybe Donna did tell the students the deal is done ,because Ross is not the owner of SunLife
in a year are two..The City will own the Stadium. according to reports.

We don't have lights because only Golden wants to practice early in the morning or late at night. Other coaches practiced in the heat of the day.

Also it goes to show UM does not have the money some users thinks it does. True we get donations but they aren't coming from people but rather businesses giving research grants and the ones that do donate could careless about athletics.

To put this in prospective dozens of high schools now have indoor practice facilities.

I recall Duke getting cramps.

Practicing in the heat and the rain is why we always had an edge in our National Championship days. 4th Quarter was like the 1st Quarter.

Truth. IPF is idiotic. Rain delays and cancelled practices?! Sounds like Grohlden being a *****. Until our stadium is covered we should continue taking advantage of our weather.

This can't be. I thought all of our fans were wealthy, blue texting, independent job creating business owners. Like golden, our fans are full of crap.

Your anger against James is at least partially if not fully misdirected. Whether its the coaching or the funding situation, its not his call. Its Shalala's and the BOT.

Also, Kyle is correct. It was highly unlikely that Golden was going to get fired in Donna's last year, that option was never SERIOUSLY on the table. And BTW, the idiot fans that did stupid things, only helped Golden's position. It might have made you feel good for a moment, but you achieved the exact opposite outcome.

Don't hold your breathe on a Beckham deal ... Politicians want the stadium one place, Beckham and MLS want it in another. You know who wins these fights in South Florida. We will be at No Life stadium for awhile, MLS is going to move on.

I assume you're talking about the banners pointing out AG is an incompetent failure? If so, the goalposts on their effect(s) seem to keep moving. First they were going to be the worst thing that ever happened to the program and were the only thing that could derail the amazing recruiting class coming in. But Golden Goldened and it became obvious that numerous embarrassing losses and the program's general malaise were the reason the class imploded. Then Golden's supporters changed their minds. They were going to have zero impact and were just evidence of a tiny minority of fans who didn't understand it was really year one for Golden, he was beset by clouds, and proved their expectations were completely out of kilter. Their ridiculous and unrealistic demands to not lose seven games in a season would surely be laughed off by the powers that be at UM. Those fans were insignificant and immaterial.

Now not only are we back to the banners calling Golden an incompetent failure being influential, they were so influential that UM decided the best way to spite the fans who claimed they were idiots for retaining Golden, was to double down on their relationship with said idiot. So you see, it isn't UM's fault they're complete bumbling losers, it's the fans' fault. UM would have done the smart thing. The right thing, had the fans not lashed out and forced them to exercise their only option, which was reinforcing their support for Golden.

You are mixing two different arguments. Its not the fans fault that Golden appears to be incompetent and hasnt been fired, that is on Shalala and the BOT. However, the BEHAVIOR (not just the banners) of a few fans actually bolstered the keeping Golden argument.

Say you are the boss and open to hearing from both sides, and one side (Golden) walks in and gives you a calm detailed argument of why he should be kept, and then the other side (a few but extremely vocal and childish idiotic fans) presents, yelling, screaming, name calling, threatening etc., who would you side with? As I wrote, I dont think he would have been fired no matter what, BUT, the childish idiotic behavior took the chance from slim to none.

If you want Golden fired, act in a calm and rationale manner. The goon behavior is counter productive.

Not to anyone with a shred of critical thinking ability. I understand what you're trying to say, but I'm not sure why we're forgiving UM for being completely misguided in how they evaluate their employees. Whether fans write a letter to the Herald, or burn Golden's house to the ground, neither one changes whether or not he can actually get the job done. When your (not you, but UM's) default position is that Golden's a great coach it's easy to find any number of reasons to discount people telling you otherwise. I'm sure Jeffrey Dahmer's mother didn't think her son was nearly the monster the prosecutors alleged him to be.

To repeat myself, people will find any number of reasons to discount things because they don't want to believe them. Let's also not presume that none of the opposition to Golden has been presented via "calm detailed arguments." It's been alleged that the fans you're talking about, those who've made the most noise, don't go to games, don't give money to UM, and didn't attend UM. You mean to tell me the school would rather spite those fans by redoubling their support for Golden, than listen to the ones who do go to games, who do give money to UM, who did attend UM but are saying the same things behind closed doors in letters, emails, and conversations? What sense does that make?

UM isn't aligning themselves with Golden because they think he is good at his job. They're aligning with him because they don't care that he's bad at it.

Lmao at Blake James. He's such a spineless, unmotivated puppet. We're not going anywhere until that guy is fired. Take initiative you ******* ******. Authority or not, put something together that you can show the new president. My mind is blown at James waiting on direction from the new president.

Right now, I don’t see a better option than Sun Life Stadium,” James said. “In my opinion, there isn’t another option out there. If there was another option, would I want to look at it? For sure. As long as [incoming] President [ Julio] Frenk gave me the approval to do it, we would investigate all possibilities.

Republicane,

My very first post above said that the anger should be directed at DS and the BOT, not at Blake. I am not excusing "management", they are clearly at fault.

What's there to justify about Sun Life?

- We don't have the money to build one of our own.

I'm not a fan of us being in Sun Life, but apparently some seem to think that Blake James should be publicly trashing the stadium we play in before we have a new place to play.

Come on, don't be shy, and let's hear your wonderful logic at work.

First off though, let's be clear on something. No AD here has every gotten us a big time stadium of our own. So if you want to bash James for not doing so (fact, you don't know what he does on a daily basis, what ideas he may have presented that have been shot down, etc) then every AD (even those who brought us MNC's) before him is what you labeled him.

Don't be mad that your post was a prime example of opening ones mouth before they thought about it.
