That's not even intellectually honest.
Any basic accountant (even wherra) would know how to shuffle funds around to make anything happen that the admin want's to happen. And that's exactly what is going on at The U. The admins won't let the athletic dept., most importantly the football program, have access to the funds needed to succeed.
Despite the fact that a winning football program is one of the biggest sources of income a university can ever hope to have.
So what your saying is UM should allocate funds to football that were given to the school for other reasons with hopes of making that money back by the time those funds are actually needed? We could just get a long term bank loan opposed to ****ing over those who do donate to academics.
You are acting like no monies can be shuffled around. I don't want to attack you personally but your view on this is ignorant and flat out wrong.
The university can allocate anything they want to wherever they want. Sure if someone donates $4 million for jock straps then that money is to be used for jock straps. What about the money that was already allocated for jock straps? Does all that just stay in the jock strap fund?
Only at Miami.
Problems with funding arise when someone donates millions to the football program and then the university decides that because of that donation they don't need to allocate their normal amount of monies to the football program because, hey someone else already took care of our most basic needs....what a joke.
At Bama/LSU/ND/USC/Osuk those monies go where they are needed most.
If someone donates money it gets used for that purpose. UM gets a lot of money for research and health and thus that money can not be used for football. If it was it would jeopardize our relationships with those who donate. If money us donated for football then yes the money gets used for that.
In your example the money allocated for jock straps would go back to whatever fund it came from. If it was from the football fund then it would go back there. If two people were giving 4 million for jock straps the school would probably tell the second one that offers that they don't need the money for that and perhaps suggest would the money could go for football related.
The school could take a loan out while it runs a fundraising drive but it has choose not to do that.
So at the end of the day we both admit that UM has plenty of money for corches, facilities and jock straps they just choose to use it on tongue depressors instead.

UM does an average job raising money for the school but a big portion of this money comes specifically ear marked for research or other academic needs.
Here is my opinion on UM's athletic shortfall.
1) UM is in a market where those who have money are largely uninterested in giving to football at either the high school or college level
a) UM struggles to raise money for athletics which is proven by lack of large donations compared to other schools of similar size
b) The pay for high school coaches in Miami is one of the worst in the country
c) The facilities for high school players in Miami are some of the worst in the country
d) There is just too much to do on a Friday night and Saturday afternoon in Miami to worry about football
2) UM does a poor job at promoting it's athletics to current and former students as well as businesses
a) Lack of visible student frustration on campus after this season when compared to schools in similar situations
b) Lack of big money boosters when compared to other schools with similar academic standings
At the end of the day UM football doesn't have facilities or coaches because UM accidentally got good at football and the school doesn't real care if it stays good at football. We don't have money in our football bank account because we rather have it donated to other bank accounts.
You know why Al Golden is still our coach and is getting full support?
Because when he talks he sounds smart and educated. You could introduce Golden to a CEO type and he will do fine. If Miami wants to become the Harvard of the south then we found our coach. If Miami wants to be a winner you go find a guy that is good at winning.
If Alabama had as much talent within 30 minutes of campus what do you think they would do? Their boosters would pay for facilities and coaches at those high schools. You would find free learning centers all over to keep kids in school. They would clean up when recruiting came.
No one cares about winning at UM and my proof is our current coach, AD, and facilities
