I actually remember when there was some chatter about fiu changing their name to University of Florida at Miami, one of the worst things they ever did, IMO, was chose the name they did. Sounds like some average commuter school for degenerates...wait what?

I agree with that - the school has a branding problem that comes from the name, which sounds like it's one of those cheesy for-profit colleges. I've always thought that it should simply be University of Florida at Miami.
