FIU game thread about us

I am not going to rag on FIU as an institution. A good portion of our fanbase collected a degree there.

That said, I have never understood these ***galoons who go on about "yOu ShOuLdN't Be A fAn UnLeSs YoU wEnT tHeRe." I seriously wonder if they realize that college football would be bankrupted in three minutes if not for fans that never went to the school they happen to root for. College football fandom goes far beyond having attended an institution. There is local, player, and cultural pride. Miami is a great example of a team that represents a larger culture than just a football team.

Additionally, why should someone abandon their fandom simply because they end up attending a different school? Let's say you watch the Canes for 13 seasons by the time you're ready to go to college. You've worn the gear, attended live games, followed recruiting. For whatever reason, you go to FIU, or F$U, UiF, whatever school. I'd posit that if your allegiance magically changes by virtue of stepping on another campus, you were never much of a fan in the first place.

UM football played for 40 years before FIU existed as a school. UM football won 5 national championships before FIU fielded a football team. FIU fans need to get over it.

this and college football is basically just a way to have a minor league system that doesn't have to pay their athletes
