Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

Saying "the first two years are on him" or "he learned to coach" is pure ego protection; an effort to rewrite history rather than acknowledge how premature and half-baked this thread was 2 years ago.

This hyper-focus on Gattis is nitpicking and nonsensical. Massive program rebuilds follow the progression we just witnessed: Lose big -> Lose close -> Win close -> Win big. Mario addressed the Gattis hire immediately, and his short tenure had no impact on the trajectory of the program.

Playing for a National Championship Year 4—where it literally came down to a single missed assignment, without grace for it looking ugly or possibly making a bad hire those first two seasons is an unreasonable position. Trying to justify a nervous take based on Year 1 or 2 growing pains is revisionist history from people who ignored what each coach inherited and rode Lanning's dik a little too hard.

I guess if 'Mario learned how to coach', then Lanning must of forgot how to coach? Or maybe Lanning never knew how to coach and felt strong off what Mario built? Either way people were dead wrong and should just own it.

MAN THANK YOU! LITERALLY THE ONLY ADULT IN THE ROOM

Many on here say Mario left Lanning a great situation, but the #s say otherwise as far as # of transfers Lanning has made in his tenure to improve his roster. This was year 3 of Mario and Lanning is running circles around him again. Oregon got the better of the deal with Mario coming here

Some of us knew Mario inherited a **** roster. But there was a bunch of fans who thought we had a talented roster who could win. Which we all knew was cap. I know I have a post on here saying by the second time we play Florida we would have an elite team, and that team went to the natty. I didn’t expect it to be that good though
Say what you want, but the roster he had was still better than all other ACC teams outside of Clemson and maybe FSU. Full of 4 star and high 3 star players. And a few 5 star guys. Most ACC teams were in the 30’s and beyond in recruiting yearly. The numbers don’t lie. Mario needs a team of 5 star guys and high 4 stars to win. He’s an oline coach ffs. He’s not going to out scheme anyone. That’s why even last year we lost to two teams that had far less talent (SMU with many Miami rejects 😂). Those two teams completely out schemed us. Now the talent gap between us and the rest of the league is much wider! But the biggest difference (and kudos to Mario for this) is that the mindset and leadership of this organization is light years away from where it was when he first got here! Hopefully this is the year we finally not take an L to less talented teams we should blow out.

Since you quoted me before deleting me, this is just more revisionist slurper spin. Plenty of people acknowledged the good and criticized the bad fairly on the “mopes” side but the slurper bros wouldn’t have any criticism when it was warranted, particularly with staff hires in the first two seasons, game management, play calling….

How bout the dead horse beaters who consistently start the same **** own the truth - that it wasn’t good enough in years one and two but got better. The “mopes” complaints are now things Mario fixed. The mopes were right about the issues needing to be fixed, and they were eventually fixed so at this point, there isn’t a reason to mope.

Remember last season when Mario went back to the prevent offense and we lost the SMU and other games that we had no business losing? Read the comments- people were calling it out. Then what they were calling for was put in place and we got to the playoffs.

Let's also account for the fact that the NIL landscape evolved as well. Plenty of people said wait and see and nobody really understood how deep of a hole the team was in to start. They saw 5-7 and panicked.
They panicked because Mario was left a 7-5 team and went 5-7 with a MTSU loss and some bro ball bull****. Then there was GT… but nothing to see there. Slurpers starting their **** again like please disperse nothing to see here when it was not a good start. He replaced two staffs. Manny and Golden never ever would have been given that luxury. I’m glad he was because he finally got it right.

The amount of crow that needs to be eaten on those first few pages is insane.
It was eaten repeatedly by a number of those people, myself included, however the dead horse beater super mariobro slurpers can’t help but try to reignite the fighting again. They were wrong by the way. The first two years wreaked of failure and incompetence. The next two years changed that 180.

I followed this for ages and came to the conclusion long ago that the rankings aren't perfect. You know how I know? I watch the games and when a 5 star isn't it or 4 star they not it. We were not getting the best but thats JMO. Just because it was better than Wake Forest or Middle Tennessee state didn;t mean a **** thing cause when they went up against those teams it did not look like the ranking. If I had to re star a dude like Al Blades he would be a 2 to 3 star. Imagine redoing all those rankings again based on what we know now and their NFL careers (if they have one), it would look a whole lot different. If guys can out play their raking like Malachi then we can take away stars as well.

I agree with you on the leadership and organization stuff but everyone hated Dawson and he was just *** when he had TVD and scrubs on his team, now he is the greatest OC out there. He was always creative but he has dogs now.....he also could not run things then that he can now cause he has the guys , we will recycle coaches throughout Mario's tenure and they will all look Godly now. Same like Saban

The growing pains were very painful. Mario didn't arrive in his current state.

Thank you, it’s as simple as that. Many times I’ve praised him for caring and being a really are worker who tries which is why I have tons of respect for him. He’s the most relentless worker you can find. He’s not an X & O’s coach but he has hired really good ones and he leaves them be. He deserves all the success he achieved and more. Dude pushed ahead through some things and here we are. Yet, notwithstanding all this, there are some usual suspects who keep restarting the divisions on here after everyone and their mother except Pete has eaten some level of crow or whatever acknowledgements they made. It’s enough already. There are no mopes left and if there are they’re silent or ignored.

No **** the rankings are not perfect lol. But the rankings are just a part of it! If Al blades went to Bama or UGA where he would have top of the line coaching, strength and conditioning, and culture, he would have turned out a better player. Our evals look better now because we have all of those things in place. Blades had everything required to be a good player. Talent, bloodlines, height, weight, and he was a vocal guy who was a leader. Give that to Saban or Smart, they have a higher chance of molding buddy into a better player. We didn’t just accidentally pick all the 4-5 star busts like we were doing a challenge NCAA football 27 lol. We just didn’t have what we needed to give the players we got their highest chance to thrive! While other ACC teams have been doing more with less for decades.

And speaking on Dawson, he ain’t out schemed anyone since he been here lol. He’s got the players, not the skills. If you give him wakes team he would have like 2 wins. He ain’t creative or innovative. Name me 1 game where he out schemed another coach! And don’t say A&M last year. Because it was windy and we ran the ball. Nothing earth shattering about that

It was rough for a bit there. Everyone saw it. But Mario changed and we have been full steam ahead so far.

Joe Yearby is better than Dalvin Cook

Lol I would’ve said Brandon Harris is better than Patrick Johnson back then. Not bc I actually believe it but bc when I start seeing too many ppl or posts on this board glazing players at other schools it ****es me off.

I hate the constant Jeremiah smith glazing on this board just the same. So did I really believe Joe Yearby was better than Dalvin Cook?... no. But Cook chose to play for FSU so it was **** him. I’m riding with the one who chose to play for Miami .
