Final spring observations

We're going to get stomped again this season. Without Duke and Warlord we're in a world of trouble. With Yearby starting off in the doghouse its going to be another long season it looks like.

This was by far the most depressing and frustrating spring game I have attended.

*IMO we did not look like a Miami team. Soooo many pedestrian players all over the field. The O-line is just a bunch of guys. The DL has some decent talent, with one elite guy IMO. At LB it's Grace and then everybody else. Ironically, Grace is the type of LB we tend to keep away from during recruiting. The CB positon is downright pathetic for the University of Miami. And don't get me started on the WR position. It's Berrios, Coley, Waters and then everybody else. And nobody stands out as a #1 guy IMO. Regardless, our offensive isn't creative enough to get guys in space and allow them to make plays. The RB position? *yawn* It would be nice to have one of the countless South Florida RB's that we missed out on.

*There is nothing innovative about this offense. And don't give me BS about how it was only a spring game and we were being vanilla. Good offenses use CONCEPTS not plays, and concepts are built in. There's no way to make them vanilla. I love Kaaya to death but I have a feeling he's going to be hurting behind this O-line without Dorsett and Walford.

*I didn't see any 2-gap stuff on the D-line, which was encouraging. Looked like they were getting after it every play. They were in the backfield all day.

*I still see too many instances where guys are wide open against our defense. Often times when the offense would run 3x1 (trips) either the #2 or #3 receiver would be wide open down the seam and/or middle of the field. Sometimes we didn't even put a defender over the slot WR's and the offense could've throw "bubble" all day. But again, our offense wouldn't see that and exploit it. (cause we're slappy)

I could be overreacting but my OC buddy who played QB at the U thought the same thing. We both left a little early. It was unbearable to watch at times.

Not gonna lie this is EXACTLY how i felt about this spring game...

I literally was sitting there by my self saying...****.....this aint gon be good this season.

-Only thing i differ on is at wr....Theres a good group of talent there....anbd at LB with the first group of Kirby, Grace, Owens/Mccord....that seems to be a good group...

OL is down right scary....

* And i thought iw as the only one that noticed thaty any times there is trips AGAINNST our d....Its a money play ...as whoever runs that seem will be open (5% of the time....Its like a **** Madden glitch....

I mean its so bad....I saw it work with EVERY group...the ones the two's the three's...got **** Odonnel made a killing on it...and got**** walkon midget Austin Pfedinger or Rudy or whatever made a grab on it.....You could literally run the play alll game and EAt.

DLine got after it foreall...made me smile...

Im scared about this season because...
1.) our philosophy on d is sh*t...and it doesnt really matter the talent being raised on the dl...

2.) oUR O WONT BE ABLE TO CARRY US a game or two even with Kayaa....as our ol has a HUGE DROPOFF..and our OC will get exposed for his lack of creativity this year...

I put a cap or ceiling of 7 wins

Normal teams with normal recruiting efforts redshirt their most talented incoming freshman on the OL, not hope and pray that they can make an impact.

This season is going to be incredibly awful.

Bama and FSU started true freshman OTs.. Seems Miami may need StLouis or Milo to be that guy. Jahir Jones is a mystery. JUCO OT was needed and Miami beat OSU for him. He procedes to get knocked on his *** 3 times in Spring (at least). Gabonis is the biggest loss.

Nice to see all three phases represented. Because lord knows special teams is irrelevant.

Cagott signing off.

calling out the guy for not including ST in his OP??? **** dude. I thought it was a good write up and appreciate that someone would do so for free.

2) Correction, EDDIE GOLDMAN won them that game BARELY. Sean McGuire or whatever the **** his name is was just happy to be there. They wouldn't have won the ND game without Jameis. And they might not have beaten UF either. Like I said, a great QB is worth 2-3 extra wins. If Kaaya is already showing signs of stardom in the SPRING no less...that makes me very happy.
Correction: Without Winston FSU would have lost to NCSt, ND, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Miami, and GT. Their new DC is terrible.

The good news, the offenses on the schedule, there's not one besides Clemson who would be considered good going into the season. They have the best QB in the conference IMO, but will he stay healthy?

FSU lost a ton offensively and while they have some highly regarded replacements for Winston, it's still a big question mark today. They do have the best RB we'll see all year, but who's going to block for him? WR, talent on paper, but that's it.

GT, lost some of their ground game, but return their key piece in their QB. If he's learned to throw the ball better, they could be a force in time.

Nebraska was all AA, QB can't throw, and they have a new coach so we'll see what happens. I don't expect much from them.

VT, they've got 99 problems and then some.

UNC, they could surprise some since they're returning their QB who has potential but is too inconsistent to this point.

The rest, should be no problem, but Golden and company create problems where there shouldn't be.
The coastal could be a step more difficult this year. VT was riddled with injuries. They will have a VERY solid D and have a ton of young skill players
UNCs lost nothing on a very good offense and can only get better on D with Chzick (who btw left the team for 2 weeks during spring, odd)
Duke is a big ???. They lost some solid talent but get 3 players back who were starters that did not play last year.
UVA lost a lot on D
Pitt could be decent with solid players on O.

I think Nebraska is a big game. Could be a confidence boost.

Our St's have been atrocious for the last 2 seasons. One of the main reasons we can't win games we should.

Thanks for your inpurt though. Solid porst. I bet dmoney loves the feel of that tongue.

This is as about as sad as I've been going into a new season. There is no momentum in the program and we are just too predictable on both sides of the ball.

CAG has turned this team into a BIG10 type. big and slow.

congratulations CAG - you took the biggest advantage you have at Miami (south FL speed) and completely negated it. job well done

This season is going to be incredibly awful.

Extremely small sample size.

Cam Robinson and Roderick Johnson were both highly recruited plus physically ready (6-6 320lbs)....they were also early enrollees.

That's the big issue. If St. Louis had shown up in January, I'd feel a lot better than I do right now. As it stands, that OLine scares me to death.

I agree with the 2 points you're scared of. I really like our overall talent level, but we're not quite talented enough to overcome the deficiencies at coaching.

We're gonna need Kayaa to be lights out. I'm sure we're going to lean on him heavily to pull us out of games, the way we did with Duke the last couple years.

This roster has UCF type of talent with Temple coaching= 4 wins.

I disagree with the UCF-type talent. I think it's still one of the top 3 most talented rosters in the ACC. I suspect we'll be as talented or more talented than 80+% of our schedule.

The scheme isn't the big problem. The 2 gap works in college and nfl.

The problem is not having the players to run it. This team doesn't have the size and power needed. When notre dame used it they were big in the front 7. Bama front 7 is big and stanford as well.

They have to 1 gap this year especially with grace & kirby playing 3-4 ILB.

O-Line i'm not that worried. Darling would be much better at guard than tackle.

You can go with kc, darling, linder, isidora, gabadois or st.louis, kc, linder, darling, gabadois. Fsu & bama started frosh LT and was fine.

As far as record is concerned. No team with a good experinced Qb that has some talent on a team has won less than 8 games.

RG3 at baylor with a horrible defense won 9 games, bridgewater as a frosh won 6 games and 12 as a soph, matt barkley won 9 as soph, hundley at ucla his 2nd year they won 9.

Stephen morris and jacory won 9 in their 2nd year as starters. If kaaya makes the jump in year 2 the team has more talent than any in the coastal.

You say the scheme isn't a problem then go on to explain that it doesn't work with the players we have. That makes the scheme a HUGE problem. You build the scheme around the talent you have.
