Ferman is hinting that Highsmith deal is on the way

Will never have the horses in trenches sir, it’s time to give up on that dream if you ever want to be able to level the playing field to compete again. And LSU does not run a pro set offense, Georgia does and I think the results of that game speak for themselves which one works in today’s CFB.
your not wrong for sure, the trenches, why can we not get linemen like we used to, every QB we have had the last 20 years has had to run for his life, not much better on the other side either. Blinded by the stars ? All they have to do is come to Texas like Jimmy used to, and Butch. I went to HS playoffs in Jerry World last year, watched 4a 5a and 6a back to back, **** near every Oline averaged 300lbs, even 4a, seems like they grow on trees around here

Enjoy that billboard ever morning on your way right from the Hecht to the unemployment line sport!
When nothing happens and no one loses a job you gonna come take your L?

Keep getting owned by Gocanes and looking like the punked our loser you are

College sports is evolving at an exponential rate. Revenues and coaching salaries are skyrocketing. There are new challenges on the immediate horizon with regards to player compensation. Looser restrictions on player transfers are inevitable.

It may be time for a dedicated person just for football in an athletic department. Imo it's something worth investigating.

Or fire the guy who is awful and bring in a competent AD with passion and autonomy.

Serious question. Are there any other schools that have this type of arrangement? It sounds kind of ridiculous.

I'd be shocked if there was. But there has to be a way for people who care about the football program to get around the idiot AD and certain BOTs.

If this keeps all the ****sticks within the administration who don't care about Football away from the Football program, I'll take it...

They just need to move out the way & let someone who knows & cares about Football make the decisions, instead of just staying status quo all the time & accepting mediocrity.

Couldn't agree with you more LCE. L will have basketball rolling again in another season or two and baseball seems on the way up as well. Nobody cares about the rest of the sports. As long as everyone just gets out of the way in the football program everything else will be fine.

So the background to this idea is the following:

Everything 305 mentioned in a podcast back in late October he had heard through connections that AH was interested in coming to Miami in a football AD type role. all other sports would be handled by other people (or another AD). It was scoffed at by Ferman at the time.

Right after the Duke loss, this very idea came out on the Rivals board. Highsmith would come in as a Football director. He would have full oversight of the football program, including hiring of coaches. Blake James would remain as AD and handle all the other stuff. The sticky question was whether AH would report directly to the President or BOT or if James would be his boss. That didn't seem like it would work. This was when Ferman also suggested Mike Leach as OC....

Everything 305 came on the podcast again last week and tried to have the conversation but Ferman wouldn't let him speak.

Now Ferman is implying it may actually happen.... Or is in the works...

The fact that he cited the possibility of Leach coming in as OC tells you all you need to know about the rest of that rumor.

No problem. When I said sort of, a Highsmith position would be different I would imagine.
Saban isn’t taking orders from those two positions since he already knows what the **** is going on. I would imagine those positions are just a more football focused section of the Athletics Department so the overall Athletics Director can focus on other things.
I think Highsmith coming in would be more like a GM, so definitely a different kind of position which may be unique in college football, but definitely not something completely out of left field.
At this point we need to think outside the box and get some football people in the building that are between the coaching staff and the admin which has no idea what it’s doing.
Sabag doesn’t take orders from their actual AD either. Or anyone else.

Dorsey would be considered average at best in todays game.
he was average in yesterdays game, what wasnt average was his brain, particularly his football brain. Every time NE plays TB is the absolute worst athlete on the field by a mile, but give him the weapons he'll kill you

This. What is the point of hiring someone else and keeping the problem? Fire the AD, hire another, and let him decide the coaches fate.

The problem there is that Strawley has real support on the Board. You can get rid of Blake, but if someone like Highsmith has to answer to Strawley in any way you’ve just rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Highsmith isn’t stupid. He won’t come here unless he has absolute power over the football program. Period.
