I had mentioned to someone that Mario was a lot like Randy Shannon, before I actually looked at the similarities. I was just going off of their game management/timeout issues. But think about this. What was Randy's record in 2007? 5-7. Mario just went 5-7. Randy landed the #1 recruiting class, that would certainly turn everything around. Mario was hired for his recruiting. Neither could figure out how to use timeouts. Both are Miami guys and "get the culture". Both had extremely embarrassing losses to average teams. Both preached accountability and discipline. Remember Randy taking the names off the back of the jerseys? Both inherited 7-6 teams. Both hired pathetic OCs. Pat Nix by Shannon and Josh JAGattis. 2007 we had 4 losses of 14 points or more. 2022 we had 5. Close losses? Randy had 3, Mario had 2.
It's pretty alarming, really.
