FEEDBACK NEEDED- CanesInSight App

We've received a lot of complaints about the mobile experience, and I think a forum-specific app will make it a lot smoother based on what I saw from the exemplar app (see link in OP). It will also be more seamless in terms of getting notifications. We will also consolidate the video content so you can get all the podcast clips to your phone.
I want something to counter the "like"button. I suggest this right next to it

Hey everybody, Nate here, the dev helping @DMoney to bring native iOS & Android apps out for CIS.

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm born and raised in Miami (Palmetto high) and a big canes fan. I went to UF, but I root for the canes and against the gators. I go to most of the games at the Watsco center though I dislike traffic and people enough to watch most of the football games on tv instead of going to Pro Player (though i make it too one or two in person usually).

I've been a mobile dev since 2013 and recently made an app for Reef2Reef which is a similar forum but for aquarium enthusiasts. D$ posted it earlier. In doing, so I realized that there are a lot more forums on the interwebs than I ever knew and that they could all use an app as well so I started a biz to provide that service and here we are.

I'll respond to some of the comments I've seen here below.

Not sure the point of an app. What services/features will be available on the app that you don’t already provide on the website?

It's not a replacement of the website at all but some people do prefer a native app for sites they frequent. It has the benefit of a clean UI, native push notifications, easier scrolling, easier posting, etc.

A native UI/UX makes for a nice experience that some users will prefer (but it does NOT replace the existing web app for users who prefer that).
  • It opens the forum up to a new subset of users who don’t like web apps as well.

  • more intuitive scrolling and ease of accessing content

  • easier to post/comment quickly
    • From a quantitative analysis, I can tell you that our R2R app accounts for a disproportionate higher amount of content created on their forum compared to the amount of users on the mobile apps, pointing to this ease.
    • media just works (uploading and viewing). We find that some people will upload a video to youtube and post that link rather than just adding a native video/image from there camera.
  • conversations as DMs

  • push notifications (for anything you currently get an alert for)
Don't require anyone to use the app.

This is NOT a replacement for the web app, it's an additional UX for anyone who prefers a native app. All the data will still live on the CIS servers and be served in the same manner you currently access it on.
just as long as the premium transfers over to the app

Yes, if you are a premium member or have any other permissions attached to your account here, they will be the same on the app.
Of course you can do some stuff with the design, but don't go overboard

We spent a lot of time trying to balance a nice design and hope we do a good job but are always welcome to feedback. It's built to feel more "app-like" than the usual XenForo web apps but is similar. There are some differences such as that we use a more WhatsApp/Instagram DM structure for conversations rather than the "email-like" structure in the web app.
As long as it continues to cut off Spotify and reload in the middle of posting I'm in

Haha it should keep your background music playing
I agree with this. Having something unique for game time discussions would be a benefit. Something along the lines of real time scrolling messages, rather than the limitations of a board based thread.

We're currently thinking this through but are planning something along the lines of "live mode" for these threads that will constantly reload all the new messages. I've seen the gameday madness and can't keep up.
I can't seem to go directly to the Game Day threads. I have to go though the Eye and Recruiting threads, then hit the list on the left, select Gsme Day and then select the game going on. Too many steps.

Should be a bit easier in the app :)
