Going against probably the best secondary we'll face in 24 daysThis is something that needs to get shored up ASAP. That kind of thing is what turns into a pick 6 because the receiver didn't go where he was supposed to. Going against some good secondaries this year, gotta clean that up.
WR position man. lol
Calm down Chicken LittleWR position man. lol
It seems like the issue is less about talent than it is about football experience. I think the young WR’s will continue to improve as the season goes on. They just didn’t get many game reps last season and its showing in practice. And I think if I was forced to pick better WR or better CB play for a Dawson offense I likely go CB... I mean George, X, Sam Brown all had show out years... Brown was waived by the packers and didnt even make the 90 man roster, X is fighting for his life for a practice squad role on a team that largely has **** WRs (plus no doubt Cam vouched for him) and George may make the Panthers as a reserve. The league says these guys were not great but Dawson got production I am hoping the young WRs can slide in and replicate that
He's going to get the most out of them not worried one bityea our WRs last year were jag central
but elite qbs take jags and make them look like studs ala brady
thats essentially what cam did
and thats what makes him the first overall pick bc he elevates jags to be better
talent wise our WRs are better this year but is Beck an elevator of Jags thats the question
George and X put up very good numbers before Cam too. X in fact had a 1000 yard season without him. George actually had more yards and same # of TDs the year before Cam. They were very good college WRs not JAGs. Just because a guy doesn't have NFL measurables doesn't mean they can't be good or great college players.yea our WRs last year were jag central

Both were extremely good college players but the talent in the room now has higher upside there will be some growing pains but long-term they're going to be really good.George and X put up very good numbers before Cam too. Really? These numbers are about as good as it gets, unless you're in a gimmick offense that throws the ball 60 times a game. If you wanna surprise yourself go look at Andre Johnson or Michael Irvin's UM stats vs X and George. I'm not saying they were nearly as talented overall, but in terms of stats and impact we way underrate last year's guys because they aren't maybe NFL material. And reverses/jet sweeps.Marion on tunnel screens to get the ball in his hands is the way I see him fitting in this offense, he has YAC ability
Right because those have totally worked for usAnd reverses/jet sweeps.

Keelan Marion Like he’s dropping the ball ? If that’s the case they should show him to the bench and let the younger kids who can catch take his reps . Like I said about the lbs we have to much young talent to let some pachyderm wr play . The best needs to play regarless. Move people around to get your best players on the fieldToday was the first day with pads on during Hurricanes fall camp, which means we can really see who's bringing the physicality and how players really move.
Here's my notes from practice today:
- TE Alex Baumann really serves as a safe pair of hands for all the QB’s, consistently able to be a security blanket when needed
- DB Keionte Scott had some great reps in coverage, but what stood out was his usage in nickel blitz plays
- WR Keelan Marion is really hard to get a read on. You know what you’re getting in the return game with him, but is very volatile at wideout. High ceiling but lacks consistency
- Chris Ewald moves very well and similar to the more experienced corners, one to watch for the future
- Ray Ray continues to battle for that slot position. That battle between himself, Mali, and Tony Johnson is a great problem to have for Shannon Dawson. This battle consistently levels up rather than guys going hot and cold.
- Really nice depth at the LB position, lots of physicality across the board
- Armando Blount was absolutely moving today, won multiple reps which included what would’ve been a sack
- Markel Bell continues to win reps against top opponents
- Max Buchanan had his first shine moment of practice so far, a great rep against Moten
- One thing I’d watch out for is how the receivers match Beck’s experience. Like Ward, Beck is throwing to spots/space rather than directly at guys sometimes. So the receiver needs to see the field and be ready for the throw and not be suprised. This is the second week the receiver hasn’t seen the space during a live rep resulting in an incompletion
- Zechariah Poyser’s physicality is a big plus, able to knock weaker opponents off balance to break up passes
-Markeith williams had another good day, jumped an out route for a breakup
Overall it was a great practice across the board as the position groups continue to look more cohesive and ready to roll
All them stats didn't mean much in terms of winning big Dre an Irv most contributed to national championship teams, X an JG were both awesome And I don't think the receivers this year are going to put up those type of numbers but they don't need to for us to be title contenders this year and in the foreseeable futureReally? These numbers are about as good as it gets, unless you're in a gimmick offense that throws the ball 60 times a game. I agree. Beck is an elite QB. Do not be fooled. He has been trained by an NFL OC (not Bobo) and has played in high stakes games. It will be up to him to get in someone’s face and tell them I don’t throw to you, I throw to the open spot, now get to the open spot or get to the bench. He's going to get the most out of them not worried one bit
Are you comfortable telling us who the WR was?- One thing I’d watch out for is how the receivers match Beck’s experience. Like Ward, Beck is throwing to spots/space rather than directly at guys sometimes. So the receiver needs to see the field and be ready for the throw and not be suprised. Happens in the NFL too. QB and receivers have to see the field the same way. This is something that needs to get shored up ASAP. That kind of thing is what turns into a pick 6 because the receiver didn't go where he was supposed to. Going against some good secondaries this year, gotta clean that up.
