Fall Camp 2025 PractiSe 3 - Saturday August 2

Teams wanted to stop the run last year thinking that’s what Mario wanted to do. By the time fspoo came around they stood back and let us run. Mario is many things but last year he showed he will pound the rock or sling it around and actually trust his qb enough to get him to New York. The qb killer must’ve had a mid life crisis

Nah...

I use Anthony Brown to demonstrate Mario's philosophy on team-building and the QB's role for success.

You're being passive-aggressive by suggesting I "sit this one out" and reconsider "the meaning of the word 'game manager'" without offering any clarity on what the term means to you.

But I'll remain civil and continue to move this conversation in a meaningful direction by doing what you should have...

Game Manager QB
  • Focus: Minimizing mistakes, making good decisions, and relying on a strong supporting cast (defense, running game, etc.) rather than elevating the team solely through individual brilliance.
There's a spectrum, but this is what Carson Beck and most QBs are equipped for and asked to do. It's not a slight to his ability; game managers win championships at every level and become HOFers.
I don't think game manager will be the way Beck's legacy with Miami will be described.

You are right it is a spectrum.

In recent memory JJ MCCarthy or Greg Mcelroy (or most any other Bama QB in the Saban era) come to mind as the sort of QB you are describing. Cam obviously lands on the other end of that spectrum.

McCord was a guy you might call a game manager until last season when he flung it all over. Burrow was a game manager until he wasn't.

I just don't see Beck not being aggressive if Dawson sets him up for it and he has confidence in the wideouts.

LOL...

Beck came here because he bought what the coaches were selling. Come be the number 1 pick in the draft.

He is going to let it fly, not be a game manager in an air raid O.

If you don't understand that, you are caught in some kind of mind F.

OK time to return from spring and summer hiatus. How does Beck's elbow look?
I am expecting a similar year to last, maybe slightly worse. Obviously the defense cannot be worse, at least I hope

Mario manhandled a stacked OSU team at the horseshoe with Anthony Brown at QB; he wants a signal-caller to manage the game well, keep the offense on schedule, and protect the football. Beck's plus passing-ability is an added bonus but it won't change Mario's approach, IMHO.

Cam was different because of his arm-talent and improvisational skills; coaches were willing to live with the ball in his hands because he was capable of doing special things. I don't believe Beck will be expected to do any of that. OL and RB are arguably the top two rooms on the roster and I fully expect we'll play to our strength.

Looking forward to 21 set, power football.
Beck will be better with his reads than Ward. We will stay on schedule with Beck. Different players with different strengths.Blessed to have two portal first rounders in a row.

Beck is actually an excellent fit for Dawson's offense. He is a better runner than Ward.

He will also have an improved defense not the garbage Ward had to overcome.

This. If Beck isn't going to carry the team, it begs the question - who will? We don't have a franchise back, a reliable WR1, or a proven defense (yet, of course.) Cam carried the team as far as he possibly could and we still missed the playoffs. Beck will need to carry this team at some point or else our NIL money was grossly misspent.
True this offence is built for a qb to make NFL throws. This is a tough game and win it matters he has to make the throws. On All access beck was telling players his pedigree with confidence. Most def he has to make NFL caliber throws.

Scared money don't make money

The big wigs donating their money would be ****ed seeing their product dink and dunk, playing scary knowing what they invested in.

The idea is for the offense to be balanced. A good running game helps the passing game. A good passing game helps the run. There will be times when Beck will have to pick up the O - when the run game struggles or if we're playing from behind. There will also be times to pound it and control/finish the game. Beck is more than a game-manager. But opening night, in a new offense against Freeman's defense, I sure hope we can establish some sort of running game to open things up.

Never thought I would get to the point that I'd feel Cam is overrated. However we talking like he won something watch the tape and see how much his selfishness cost us against GT. You have to know when to be Superman and when to be Clark Kent. Cam was/is great but we've gotten so used to being a$$ that we're glorifying a Pop Tart Bowl season. If that's the best we can do between Beck and Ward Lord help us all 🤦

I blame it more on defense and not going all in on DB portal wise and waiting a year to clean up mistakes.. Now we have DBs who sit the bench who could start other places. Very hard to blame #1 offense to play perfect every game and no room for error because the defense was broken and ***.
