Expectations for this season?

After 4-5 games DC’s were just bringing constant heat off the edge because we couldn’t block it up. I literally texted a friend “ Tvd won’t make it through the year“. He was a sitting duck.

And TVD hated playing in that system, was dead meat mentally from game 1. ... Flash forward to our Spring Game with Dawson's system. First quarter was rusty, then the old TVD started showing up. He finally started slinging it, and looked more comfortable than I'd seen him since the 2021 season. Now add the fastest WR in college football and Kirk to the mix, along with Fletcher (who can catch the ball, too) and CJ.

TVD will get the ball out quick. This OL (need Zion back!) will give him the time he needs. We'll be putting up a lot of points.

i get why we all would hedge this question but they need to win 9+. fsu won 10 games last year and they had 1 guy drafted. the acc sucks.

tvd has enough ability even lashlee had him looking like a first round pick.
they brought in a full recruiting class with 15 ee. add what's remaining from last years class and that's half the roster.
they've added 10+ transfers on top of that, probably more 2024 draft picks in that group than fsu's entire roster put out this year.

whether its college or pros good coordinators make an impact right away and do things impressive enough to get head job interviews. big picture either mario's extended coordinator searches got it right this time and they win or it's big trouble with big buyout.

7-5 regular season but progress with be evident, the losses won’t be the abominations they were last season..I can see us losing a few heartbreakers but if the ball bounces our way we could eek out 9 dubs… We win 8+ we’re gonna be alright, Mario’s recruiting prowess will take over from there..

We won 3 ACC games last year. Bethune and Southern Miss barely count as wins. UVA took a 4 OT no touchdown miracle to eek out. We were that close to 4-8. GT and VT weren’t exactly pretty.

Do not do this to yourselves.

I would be over the f***ing moon with 8 wins but it would take enormous culture shift and on field improvement. Talent level was/is not the the sole reason we lose games. Duke and MTSU beat the living **** out of us. It had nothing to do with holes on the roster.

We’ve added mostly injured or G5 and below portal players and think that’s worth 3 more wins? I’ll believe it when I see it. Hope ya’ll are right!
Except possibly CB, and punter, we have improved every other roster position compared to last year, plus pushed out a lot of the entitled and lazy players (there's a reason most of our best effort and leadership came from Marios portal additions last year..even Kinchens alluded to a lot of the previous players being low effort guys). Add to that a schematic upgrade at OC, and an aggressive DC, and I see lots of cause for optimism. 8 wins, but would not be surprised by 9.

I have no clue to be completely honest.

I feel we were 2 to 3 wins better last year with a better staff. Injuries certainly didn't help either.

We've gotten a lot of new portal additions, some look like they'll be ready to contribute, two to start for sure. Beyond that, there's questions just like with those returning.

If it all comes together, 9 or 10 wins isn't out of the question. It's never has been IMHO, but the coaches have always left much to be desired in the past. 8 wins is acceptable with so many moving parts. Anything less, we did something wrong.

F#ck they did it again. I've been cool all off- season with realistic expectations. But this last week of portal additions just might have broken the Dam to reality. I'm starting to belive there is a chance we could win 9 games this year. Someone please bring me back before I jump out of the window. What do you see for this team now?
What's up with everyone wanting to be right all the time. We're fans (fanatics). Support your team, believe you're gonna win the NC, who gives af. Everyone has the same opportunity to win right now & you never know which way the ball will bounce

FSU had one guy drafted because they got everyone to come back including a sure-fire first rounder and their QB. It's way early and this is just one site but they are currently projected to have 11 guys drafted next year including a top 10 pick and five guys in the first three rounds.

If TVD plays like he did in 21, we should be 8+ wins IMO.
Yep. For me, TVD (QB play in general) is the biggest x-factor, assuming Dawson is at least competent. If TVD can return anywhere close to the stride he hit in ‘21, 8 wins is absolutely within reach.

However, with inconstant QB play, new system and portal additions won’t matter much obviously. NEED Van Dyke to put in the work with these WRs this offseason and stay healthy.

Above all else, I just need to see overall competence and a competitive team in every single game. There were some serious embarrassments in ‘22 that absolutely cannot be repeated, win or lose.

We added the 7th best recruiting class and easily a Top 10 portal class. Again, this is not the roster we’re going to see when Mario has this thing totally in place. Not even particularly close. But the roster is absolutely better, the offensive coordinator is absolutely better, and our QB is healthy.

I’m not doing anything to myself. I don’t expect to have some sensational season. But this is year 2, 6-6 is unacceptable and would me a much bigger red flag than 5-7 in year 1. Infinitely bigger.
Agreed particularly with your final point. If the team only manages to improve 1 win after how embarrassingly bad they were last season, then I genuinely believe it will be time for MAJOR long-term concerns.

If it’s that bad, no amount of recruiting will make this team elite. Mario hasn’t done enough (yet) to make anyone believe he is on the same level of coaching as Saban or Smart. Not sure how many on this board are willing to admit it, but those guys are elite coaches, not merely elite recruiters.

and he knew it. imagine being behind that line, knowing none of the WR would be open or where they were supposed to be and you had a nano second to throw the ball.......

6 to 7 wins we not ready yet imo. Anything higher would be a surprise but its not impossible.
Ready for what exactly ? The Acc? We aren’t talking big bowls , winning conferences or making playoffs here lol.

We just flipped the roster with portal and HS kids.. With two really good classes back 2 back. On top of that we’ll be fully healthy and having a completely new staff / schemes. If that equals to one more game fire everyone now because thats just not unacceptable.

Mario got the benefit of the doubt of one ****** year, we can’t win less than 8 and have more than one bad loss imo. That would be bare minimum progress. He’s got more of his guys, has had the transfer portal at his disposal, has flipped the staff etc.

For what we’re finally paying enough is enough.

the same site has 4 from um in the top 71 plus another 5 top 300 and im guessing they dont even have some of the recent transfers reflected (tyler harrell is #251 but listed for bama, so he'd give them 10 ranked high enough to get drafted not counting brown, taylor, mauigoa who are all ranked outside the top 400). 3 straight recruiting classes ranked better with the 2 most recent from this regime should mean that their underclassman are at least comparable.

the obvious difference between the 2 rosters is that they were coached better, and in turn fsu scored more points and got much better qb play (not even counting the mess post tvd injury). fsu scored roughly the same ppg in 2022 (36) as miami did in both 2020/2021 (34). fsu improved by more than 1 td/g from 27 ppg in 2021, miami regressed by even more than that going from 34 to 23. the only p5 game over 30 was ga tech. unc and duke were the only ones over 20. that's beyond incompetence, which is why they cleaned house.

however they do it the expectation should be that the miami offense be coached at least as well as lashlee going forward. that's shouldn't be an impossibly high bar.

9-3 regular season, improving and playing their best at the end of the season. Offense putting up points, helping an improved defense.

Win Coastal but lose ACCCG to Clemson. Close, tight game, though.

Win bowl game.

10-4 final

There is no "Coastal" anymore.

The way I look at it is last season we lost 2-3 games because of Gattis / scheme / play calling. So just with the new OC and better D scheme we could be 8 wins. Add to that the roster change and UM could be in every single game except perhaps Clemson. A 9 win season SHOULD be attainable if we don't have major injuries. 10 wins would mean we got lucky in a major game.

My optimistic side says we win 9 and a bowl to get to 10. My realistic side says 8. I'd be happy with anything 7+ and a bowl win honestly.
