Even Though Mario Has Been A Disappointment Thus Far

it is one thing to lose to duke or mtsu. but we got our pants beat off us by mtsu. duke was just turnover city. not sure that is on mario. i think a large portion is on gattis and the players.

miami fans cant understand that miami is not a good team. we've been historical medicore team for **** near 2 decades. this isnt the 80s, 90s or early 2000s. no one gives a **** about our history. the players dont give a **** either it appears. for every duke johnson we got 100 slugs.

Pay attention to what Colin and Klatt say about Oregon.

Colin: "That is the most talented 4-5 star roster on the West Coast."
Klatt: "Specifically on the offensive line."
Klatt: "Mario Cristobal was a big part of that." - Speaking in reference to the roster Oregon has.

Mario has been a major disappointment. No doubt about. We should win more games with the roster we have. Duke and MTSU being the two games that standout most. But listening to this conversation makes me think about the need for more patience with Mario and the staff. Just something to ponder on.....

The disappointment with Mario lies in His hire of Gattis

Generally speaking every other aspect is acceptable

Losing to Duke and MTSU is unacceptable. No reason, rhyme or excuse to lose to those teams. We have 100x better talent than both of those teams but yet was handled decisively by both.

Defense and offense have been atrocious this season.

Mario wasn't the only thing recruiting at Oregon. That Nike money did a lot as well. Oregon, for years now, has been dumping tons into their facilities to wow recruits. I'm shocked at how many people here blindly give Mario all the credit for recruiting there, when they have been recruiting pretty **** well for years. Did Mario make a difference in recruiting? Sure. Was Mario the main draw? No.
Mario been recruiting his *** off since he was at FIU. We know Oregon has some of the best facilities in the nation but Oregon has been investing in Facilities, uniforms, etcetera since Chip Kelly day's. So, this is nothing new but Oregon wasn't a recruiting powerhouse until Mario stepped foot on campus. Mario is a proven recruiter. He has his obvious warts as a gameday coach but his recruiting prowess speaks for itself

Going to a night game at Autzen Stadium is on my bucket list. I've been hoping for decades that the Canes would schedule a home and home series with the Ducks.

Funny side story: After my divorce I dated a gal for a few months who was an Oregon alum and a die hard Ducks fan. I told her that I would gladly make a trip up there (from NorCal) for a good night game against a ranked opponent. We dated in the spring but broke up before football season started. Oh well, I missed that opportunity. lol :congratulatory:

I don’t disagree. Canes lost both those games predominantly because of their offense…. Hence Gattis

U’re my guy, so I wanna say this respectfully, but u couldn’t be more wrong.

U can’t say that Nike money was there recruiting for him, when that Nike money has been there since 1998. No coach prior to him had the recruiting success he had; even Chip Kelly, arguably the most important coach in taking UO to new heights didn’t have that type of success recruiting.

But, yes, UO’s campus is beautiful & their football facilities r second to none, & I would advise anyone to go check out their YouTube on their facilities to see the lure; but, they’ve had nice facilities prior to Mario, too.

I agree. Mario is a recruiter. He will improve the talent base. Whether he can take it to win big remains to be seen. His biggest hurdle will be recruiting the local area as the local school coach vs oos coach. These kids see us daily and weekly a lot more closely than they see other places. I trust Mario to get it done recruiting wise .

Mario is up front, honest and specific on who he wants for his team...worked in Oregon........
This is not a truism for our Canes right now..........this is a TOTAL rebuild,..............not a reboot.....time will be a factor here for the Cristobal team to be established.

100%

Plus if Oregon has all this Fuq You Nike money, why have they never paid up to keep a coach

Most reasonable fans arent disputing this

At the same time, there is nobody with half a brain that can say that the Gattis hire was a good choice and could advocate for keeping him

Exactly; ppl see reasoning as justification or acceptance. Two things can be true at the same time;

Losing to Duke & MTSU is unacceptable, but looking at the history for the past two decades, it’s not overtly surprising either

Mario is going to have to rebuild this program, but that doesn’t absolve him for his chitty OC hire or his poor clock mgmt on game day.

At the end of the day, again, if yr 2 yields this same result &/or even play on the field, then hit the panic alarm button.

Miami was 15-8 in the two years before Mario became HC.
Just sayin'
Point taken and I’m certainly not going to defend Mario’s results thus far at Miami. That being said, there’s a lot that’s gone on in the past and present that’s led to the current fiasco. What Mario is currently dealing with isn’t related to a few things. There’s a multitude of things involved. Time will tell if he can right the ship.

I don’t think any of us that were against the hiring of Mario, or upset with him so far as HC.. would ever doubt the one thing he does best is acquire talent on a high level.

He has to overwhelming out talent teams, in order to win. And even that can’t consistently do when it really matters.

I have no doubt Mario will get the roster to the point where his deficiencies are covered up by recruiting and we beat the MTSUs and Dukes of the world. I think we all know that.

What’s alarming is what will happen when we play the teams with close to as much talent at that point? There might be some Ohio States if we play a clean game… but how often will Utah happen?

I for one, for once, would like a coach that has us playing above our talent level, while recruiting at an appropriate level. Seems surreal to imagine that at this point.
