Even Though Mario Has Been A Disappointment Thus Far

I have no doubt Mario will get the roster to the point where his deficiencies are covered up by recruiting and we beat the MTSUs and Dukes of the world. I think we all know that.

What’s alarming is what will happen when we play the teams with close to as much talent at that point? There might be some Ohio States if we play a clean game… but how often will Utah happen?

I for one, for once, would like a coach that has us playing above our talent level, while recruiting at an appropriate level. Seems surreal to imagine that at this point.
no matter the talon this gonna drop some of those scratchers. hes done it everywhere hes gone. just prepare for it and accept it. he will also leave the cupboard more full than previous coaches did bc hes the best recruiter out of them all

I don’t think any of us that were against the hiring of Mario, or upset with him so far as HC.. would ever doubt the one thing he does best is acquire talent on a high level.

He has to overwhelming out talent teams, in order to win. And even that can’t consistently do when it really matters.

I mean....he did win a Rose Bowl.

Which would only be the biggest win this program has had since our current recruits were in their daddy's nuts.

There was a growing stigma that those games were due to poor performing coordinators preseason. At this point I’m fully expecting the Cal, Stanford games yearly. Wouldn’t be surprised to see his career turn out a lot like Richts at Georgia.

Mario wasn't the only thing recruiting at Oregon. That Nike money did a lot as well. Oregon, for years now, has been dumping tons into their facilities to wow recruits. I'm shocked at how many people here blindly give Mario all the credit for recruiting there, when they have been recruiting pretty **** well for years. Did Mario make a difference in recruiting? Sure. Was Mario the main draw? No.

Come on now. He brought in the best classes on paper in Oregon’s history. That being said, there wasn’t anyone out there to challenge him. The only school was USC but every other school sticks to their region for the most part. Even journalists were advocating for PAC 12 schools to focus solely on the west coast. We can’t take recruiting away from Cristobal but it’s harder now.Everyone recruits in the south.

I agree

I'll take it and take my chances that a ball bounces our way in some of the coinflip games Richt had in his 15 years up there.
the people who wouldn't take a solid foundation with consistent 10 win seasons and are ****ing and moaning about how mario isn't championship caliber, after witnessing what miami has put on the field for the last 20-odd years, are outside of their god**** minds.

and 10-2 most likely gets you into the 12 team CFB playoff IMO (unless there is an MTSU type loss in there)

Given he has proof of raising a roster and results before at a power five school he deserves a little leniency. A lot of bad coaching issues as well this year, but another year or two of his classes and making assistant coach adjustments could at the least raise the floor of this program.

If he didn’t have the prior positive example of Oregon on his behalf, I’d be all about saying ***** the 3-year new coach period as it’s been atrocious so far. But recent success turning around a program grants him that (somewhat).

We are in the MIDDLE of a season! Respond NOW! Scheme! FIND a WAY! Dont just throw this season away! We would LOVE to beat UVA, FSU, Ga Tech and Pitt! Clemson? Ay we ain’t there yet but COMPETE! Show some heart, pride, let ya balls hang! Been playing the game all ya life! Come on man! ****!

Watch from 2:20 to 4:00 mark.

Pay attention to what Colin and Klatt say about Oregon.

Colin: "That is the most talented 4-5 star roster on the West Coast."
Klatt: "Specifically on the offensive line."
Klatt: "Mario Cristobal was a big part of that." - Speaking in reference to the roster Oregon has.

Mario has been a major disappointment. No doubt about. We should win more games with the roster we have. Duke and MTSU being the two games that standout most. But listening to this conversation makes me think about the need for more patience with Mario and the staff. Just something to ponder on.....

100% and I'm not even a Mario fan
