ESPN Ranks the top 21 Championship Teams of the BCS Era and the 01 Canes are not 1 or 2

Vince Young rightfully threw a pick to end the game in the middle of the 4th quarter and Texas trailing by 12 points. It would have been a very tame ending. I guess only USC fans remember that play more than anything else in the game, because it was so startling at the time. A backup defensive back named Ryan Ting somehow brainstormed to bat down the ball instead of making a routine interception that would have made him a hero. Some extreme USC fans were so upset with Ting after the game that he received death threats. But whenever someone tries to pretend Vince Young had a world beater game I remember that play.

USC had a young defense that was shredded by graduation and injury compared to the excellent defense of the prior season. Consequently there were countless narrow escapes during that season, like the Arizona State comeback, famous Notre Dame shove game, and even a late rally at home against Fresno State. The Trojans were paper mache all season, yet still should have put away Texas minus any number of plays going their way, like Reggie Bush' idiotic lateral that resulted in a self-inflicted turnover.

Texas was a 7-7.5 point underdog in that game. If the game had been replayed a week later, Texas still would have been underdog. That, more than anything, defines the monumental stupidity of ESPN assigning 2005 Texas #1. You don't anoint a team as best when it would have been underdog to numerous teams on the list.

The 2001 Canes would have been favored above anyone, although several of the recent Alabama teams would have been very, very close to pick-em. Those Saban teams are not flashy but anyone who undervalues them is a fool. They are exactly the type of team that has thwarted the great Canes teams in prior eras.

Yep Vince Young had a horrible game and you also told everyone Mike Tyson was a ***** except when you actually saw him in real life you didn't say a ******* word.

This is the same bloviator that claims to be one of the best handicappers in the history of Vegas but has yet to make a single pick on here. EVER.

Also this dude is also a closet USC fan. He always sucks them off. Deeply and with passion.

I don’t like the schedule argument because their conference schedule may not have been as tough but their out of conference schedule had multiple power 5, name brand schools with PSU, FSU & Washington off the top of my head. They consistently scheduled big name out of conference games during that time period

Look at THIS nonsense...

2008 Florida at #2: "Nineteen players from that team were eventually drafted"

2001 Miami at #3: "The roster featured 38 future NFL draft picks, including 17 who went in the first round. Among the 22 starters in the 2002 Rose Bowl win over Nebraska to clinch the national title, 18 were drafted -- 11 in the first round."

Andrea Adelson talks about the "knock" on Miami being its schedule, and we had "close calls" against BC and VT...BUT MIAMI WAS UNDEFEATED AND FLORIDA MOTHERFVCKING LOST A GAME TO OLE ****.

Ridiculous.

Awsi, ever wonder if Pete Carroll’s failure with LenDale White running it on that pivotal 4th & 2 factored into his decision not to run the ball with Marshawn Lynch at the goal line in the Super Bowl?

Like I posted on Facebook, take your all time favorite college football team and the 01 Miami Hurricanes would beat them by 2 tds

Espn doesn’t care about journalism or truth, their sole purpose is to make headlines.

Espn has the easiest job in all of media (with sports as their product) and they constantly **** it up and then wonder why they lose money and ratings.

Vince that game, was one of the most dominant performances I've ever seen. He played out of his mind, so far above his typical play. I don't feel like that Texas team was all that, but that night Vince most certainly was.

We are obviously first. USC would be my second. The rest, whatever.

THIS!!

Da hate DA U get is crazy just think about this all da hate cost us at least 3 more chips and a 3peat 00-02.
1. Da fumble call at ND
2.keeping us out da BCS game putting fspoo in and we beat dem
3. Y'all know what dat is and would have capped off a 3peat from00-02. I still can't believe dat ref called PI like dat. Da refs cost us 2 chips and BSC another(well we would have had to beat OU but anyway) one. That would have been(still is if you ask me) da greatest team n history and would have had probably da best 3yr stretch to prove it and shut da haters up.

Heard "The First Team" show on Sirius this morning discussing this article. Greg McElroy and Taylor Zarzour both couldn't believe that Texas was #1, both indicated that '01 Canes were the best ever and it wasn't close.

Ridiculous.

The teams ranked above 01 have players who would've walked into our locker room and not made it out alive, let alone the football field.

Not everyone at ESPN feels the same way.
