Just another SEC hillbilly employed by eSECpn. I know college football is popular in the south but you'd think it was a sister fu*king contest the way espn constantly panders to redneck fans. From the corny *** country-fried college game day intro music, to giving Finebaum a national TV audience to suck off Saban, to idiot reporters like this bumpkin. Hey ESPN, it's not NASCAR. There's a pretty large audience that can't stand this country shtick.
I blame the Big Ten for allowing it. Bigger alumni bases and more wealthy institutions than the SEC yet they sat back and ceded power to the South. College football is not huge in the population centers in the northeast and the ACC was too busy trying to stay Carolina power-centric and jerk off their basketball influences to wield proper influence. Texas was content with trying to do their own network and the Pac-32 will always be late night entertainment. So it was up to the Big Ten behemoths to stop this nonsense but their presidents were too busy trying to put up a faux academic facade whereas the SEC schools jumped at the power grab while their teams were actually winning too. It was a joke that they were able to install a wannabe good ol' boy that was always L$U proud even when he was at Washington in Emmert and that Mike Slive pretty much had equivalent powers to him within football.
This is all a discussion for another day though. I think Marty Smith is due to deliver a piece about Alabama players giving back to the Tuscaloosy community any minute now. He'll somehow relate it to both his dead daddy and Nick Saban's hardscrabble upbringing in Bumfuk, WV. Have your Kleenex ready. Someone may be cutting onions.
