Encouraging stat

We've played one team in the Top 50 in rushing.

Central Michigan.

How do the rest stack up?

Florida - 103rd (!)
UNC - 77th
VA Tech - 94th
Virginia - 122nd (!)
GT - 72nd
Pitt - 111th (!)
FSU - 108th (!)
Lousiville - 64th

Y'all boys on this mope trend bc we're on a lil winning streak and warming up on the trail, but facts are facts. Call it how it is. These are hardly rushing behemoths on our schedule.

I appreciate Shaq and 56 regardless.
Same way we lead the nation in pass defense last season. We were good no doubt but we didn't play anybody worth a **** at passing. Now it's the rush defense this season. Again very good but a little context is needed.

Some people will never be happy. Bunch of complainers on here that expect this school to win a national title every season.
Or some people just think we should at least win the Coastal more than once a decade. And beat GT.

With that being said, last few weeks have been encouraging. Don't f*ck it up Manny.

Numbers like this should make people appreciate Shaq and Pinckney (along with our DTs):

Not a big fan of statistic like this in order.

The scope in this stat is so narrow, and such black and white stats are hard to determine variables behind, based on time of game and location on the field.
I.e. Ohio likely only faces runs at the start of the game until they blow the top off the scoreboard real early.
Easy for a DC to dial up his play calling duties when they are that predictable.

As other have pointed out, our competition was not the strongest when it came to running the ball. When we did face a team who runs the ball well, i.e., Louisville, they racked up over 200, but this very narrow scope excludes many of the called runs.

I'm a believer that our defense is actually very capable, just don't like the stat. S+P Ratings.
I'd ignore this.

I rarely agree with you...but the data you are showing...

not good...

how many yards on the ground did Louisville gain?

people usually don't like to have their fantasies interrupted with reality.
If we sucked, our numbers would be much worse. Because we have a good run D, we can shut down teams that should be shut down.

The reason this one matters is because this is the type of thing Manny wants to do on D. We all know he'll give up some big plays, but his D has always been about getting the other team behind on down/distance. Stuffing the run on 1st tends to lead to 3rd and long which leads to sacks and punts.

This stat says the D is, at least to some extent, doing what Manny wants it to.

I laugh when teams go into the shotgun on 3rd or 4th and 1 or 2.

makes zero sense, especially against teams like us. It’s like thanks for the gift.

Bill Clark....... That's with him replacing over half of his starters on D. That said Miami SHOULD handle UAB.
Agreed, but much respect for Bill Clark. I'd like to see him replace Manny should the time come.

This is facts. I remember all offseason people were panicking out of their minds thinking that G Willis was the most irreplaceable DT in Miami history since Sapp lol.

And our Run Defense is the best it's been in the 4 years of the Diaz era with Stroud coaching the DL & there's a groundswell of fans that want him fired, despite the fact he's arguably one of our better recruiters too lol.

I'm drinking the Kool-Aid now. But 4th and 17, Ga Tech, Va Tech... those were difficult growing pains. Team looks totally different with Rousseau. Hill and Silvera either starting or getting almost as many snaps as the starters.
