Religion was created for humans to control humans. Some of the control was for societal good such as the Golden Rule which exists in some form in every religion. Some control was to stop people from doing harmful things; like dietary restrictions on eating Animals which may carry the risk of bacteria (Jews, Muslims with pork), or not eating animals which are more valuable alive as an on going food source than dead as a one time food source (Hindus with cows).
and then a lot of control was for power and wealth to those at the top of the religion. the sad thing for me in particular about christianity is that the name “Christ” is in the name of the religion and yet so few Christians live by the principles attributed to Christ; taking care of the poor, eschewing wealth, being forgiving and caring about all people.
So if Christianity doesn’t follow the principles of Christ, what is it?
FYI, I feel the same about the exploitation of the masses that occurs in every religion. Growing up with Hindu parents I saw the perversion of that religion for money, status and power by the people at the top.
