All I'm gonna add to this is y'all are WAY TOO LOOSE with the bust term... Not just speaking on this kid or anyone in particular. But to expect any kid, especially who plays at a spot that requires physicality to shine immediately simply shows me not too many of y'all comprehend this game. According to that standard 95% of the people who play college athletics are busts. Cause you ain't seeing too many true freshman standing out in any sport, especially football...

The "bust" term has always been used loosely on this forum. More loosely than my fellow Cubanos pouring sugar into their Cafecito.
I know it was a different era of college fb, but the 1983 team had several starters and contributors on the National Championship that were considered "busts" 2-3 years prior. I know because i knew several players who were recruited over those guys out of HS.

It’s amazing how Cubans can melt a pound of sugar into those small cafe cups .
Instantly they start yelling Spanish ear piercing volume.

We have a professional industry centered around evaluation and development and they "bust" out at a high rate, but we're quick to point fingers at the HC around here because he doesn't hit at the same rate as the big guns, who don't hit at the big rate anymore. Any smart draft evaluator with a clue points out that nobody knows ****, that we can't put players into numbers because we have too many outliers and essentially everyone is playing an informed guessing game, but HS recruiting is now supposed to be bulletproof. Right.

I could now point to the statistic of how many players out of HS make it to the NFL and I could point to how other big-time programs have a massive bust-rate that nobody talks about (weirdly) and I could also point out the fact that it's been two decades since we've done a thing on the national stage, but I'd rather just focus on the player and the development itself.

There's a ****load of factors going into whether a young player makes it or doesn't make it. The biggest factor of it all is luck. People may wanna hear it or not hear it, but the kids that we recruit 1. haven't hit the weight room at a semi-professional capacity 2. are 18, sometimes younger and in most cases haven't stopped growing and 3. and more importantly, have played HS football and not college competition every week.

Some of it comes down to the player. Some of it comes down to coaching. Some of it comes down to the circumstances. But Tom Brady isn't Tom Brady until Drew Henson started folding at Michigan, until Mo Lewis almost killed Drew Bledsoe, until the Patriots defense randomly started playing mistake-free football, etc etc etc

A lot of players around the country work really hard, watch extra film, lift extra weights, do extra drills and get there. The smallest percentage of these kids make it. For a HS player to make it, everything has to go right.

Picking out the right people to form a unit, a team, to come together and be successful is a task that many many many many people have failed at for many years. I'm not sure people on here are aware of how difficult it is, but I'd suggest some may want to find out so that they can experience it.

Like how we dominated with the backup against POWERHOUSE Iowa State last year in the poptart bowl?

Without a top 5 QB, we're a 4 win team.
Brother I'm trying to be respectful at all times. I don't believe you intended to make a stupid statement. But if you make a stupid statement I'm gonna say something when it's in response to me. If you choose to mention How ****** thee back up QB played against that POWERHOUSE Iowa State team then you should also mention ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WHO CONTRIBUTED TO LAST YEARS TEAM OFFENSIVELY WHO CHOSE TO SIT OUT THAT GAME... You should also mention how the offensive coordinator chose to call an entirely different game plan from what we practiced as all season as a result. Please don't bother to respond by saying well the #1 pick in the draft had no problems with what we had so why should our back up. Because you're better than that.

Yet it is a valid point that people on here use the bust term more freely... 🤣 Dudes are calling dudes busts one year out of high school when they barely got on the field. Wtf

Had nothing to do with Cam.

The Bowl Game O-Line were all starters.

RBs were all starters.

Tight ends were starters.

Still couldn't run the ball to victory.

Dawson called the game based on Williams abilities which have regressed since his freshman year.

If you think you can hope that Mario/Mirabal/Dawson calls a game the right way, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Williams hasn't regressed imo. he was never good. he got glorified bc he broke his arm against FSU. he was trash his freshman year and he was trash last year. he should never have been recruited to UM as he doesn't belong in the p4 or even g5

Ur right. Putting up 308 rushing yards and running the ball essentially at will didn't prove the point & the fact the defense allowed 42 points while the offense had 41 had nothing to do with anything either... I guess your point was we can't run to success. Do you think our defense will be similar to last year's defense again at any point soon? Because if our defense was even average we dominate that game. Lastly while Iowa State certainly isn't some power house, they're far better than 85% of the acc last year. But I get your point. Just don't agree. No pressure in that.

Does calling the #1 offense in the country qualify as something that has a spot on your bridge?

The #1 offense in the country was 90% Cam and Martinez. Supporting players ate bc of Cam.

Dawson did not call all those plays. Cam audibled out of stupid calls constantly and made miracles happen. Miracles that Dawson didnt scheme up. Miracles thst should have been huge sacks bc the O Line left someone unblocked.

Any other QB and thats a 4 or 5 win team.

Rushing for over 300 yards and having over 30 points in the first half and still losing is embarrassing. Just like blowing a 21 point lead against Syracuse.

The defense should be better.

I hope it is. I expect it to be average in the ACC.

Relying on a backup from Louisville and a guy who blew the same knee out twice as upgrades to our LB room in year 4 is bad.

Portalling in 47 DBs bc you can't get a secondary to play even at the FCS level after year 3 is bad.

Having a defensive line consist of a bunch of 275 pound guys rotating with 215 pound guys going into year 4 is bad. Where's the NFL body type Edges?

Getting 3 WRs from the portal bc you'd rather do anything than play a WR you recruited from highschool in year 4 is bad.

Bell is going to get absolutely smoked by talented edge rushers and will get Beck annihilated if he's not careful.

RB room takes a step back with no Martinez replacement.

Mario isnt performing at a top 10 NIL budget level.

With no Cam miracles, we lose 2 to 3 games. Can Beck replace that. Can the defense win us those 2 to 3 games back? Are we still going to be 3rd in the ACC?

I'm not optimistic. I think Notre Dame is going stomp us into the dirt. Their RB is the best we've faced in a few years and so is that O Line.

We ran for 308 yards (most vs a P4 team in at least 8 years).

But cool story nonetheless.

That statement, in it's entirety, is complete bull****. Talking out of your *** would be a complete understatement.
The Dawson slander continue to amaze me

I’m old enough to remember people bashing Cam for trying to be a hero when there’s guys running around wide open

I guess Cam was designing those plays in the dirt though

i think part of him running around allowed our WRs to get separation. they still struggled overall to get real separation as they did previously. the difference was cam can buy time and keep a pocket alive to allow for guys to run open. the only guy that consistently found a way to get open regardless of QB was X really.

Cam was repeatedly bashed for not hitting wide open check downs with screenshots

Not sure why it can’t just be that Dawson and Cam made a good match though of course any OC would be with Cam
