There was a shockingly large contingent of Miami fans that assured me this offense would be more efficient and more “on time” (whatever that means) with Beck

Cam Ward played too much “Hero Ball” apparently chucking up passes like punts and hoping for the best ( 👀 )

Our 3rd down efficiency last year was apparently not because of our offense but because of acrobatic catches by X and the rest of the country being better on 1st and 2nd down

So now that we have a few games under our belts (mostly good and some bad) can yall that said this please break it down for me?

I didn’t really understand it the first time but now that we have actual game and data points I’d like it explained if it’s not too much trouble?

Thanks

The late arriving stuck in traffic fans were more on time and efficient in their travel than Beck was last night.

(I wish I could love your post multiple times it's that good - the right level of shoving in a locker, pettiness, and sarcasm. Well done)

I know fans are very upset about Shannon Dawson

He called a poor game

But it’s just his first season as our OC so I think he will settle in to the role

That game was tough to watch and I watched after I knew we lost as I was out at an event. The offense with the exception of Toney and Daniles looked pedestrian and over matched. I’m not gonna hammer on the run game because the results speak for themselves but fletcher needs to show some wiggle and stop trying to trick everyone. Granted there wasn’t much space to make guys miss but last night his vision looked like it did freshman year.

Last night also showed what happens when we just keep trying to establish the run game in the most predictable manner possible and Beck was terrible when we had to pass. A goth year senior has to be more careful with the football.

Cam audibled so much. Had complete autonomy

There are even many NFL OCs who play the game to get to 3rd and manageable. We aren’t calling plays to get first downs as much as we are to be in 3rd and 5 instead of 3rd and 13 needing a “hero” play from cam. That’s our style shift. Margin for error with that is essentially 0

Lol, what kills me about Beck - after how much he gets the guys wearing the wrong jerseys involved in the passing game - is that the guy tries to outrun guys that he has zero chance of outrunning. Poasters killed Cam for extending pass plays when he coulda run. That play last night on 3rd down by the goal line, when Beck got flushed he tried to outrun a LBer and shocker it didn't work. If he just bought time behind LOS probably woulda had a decent chance of hitting Marion for a TD who was circling back to him on the scramble drill.

one of the most efficient football plays is a dive up the centers butt for 1 yard on first down, or even more efficient is when you do it on second and 10.
I remember it being a huge complaint last year as well

That whole record breaking offense stuff was really weighted down by the lack of efficiency at QB though. I’m not an X and O guru like many here so after 6 games I’d like to see some screenshots or examples of how we’ve fixed those issues from last year

Admittedly I did not watch Beck much at Georgia. I don’t like watching Georgia football.

So I was heavily leaning on the expertise of the fine folks here at CiS

I, not knowing much about this, thought ya know this Cam Ward kid is really something huh? Imagine my excitement when I heard our new QB was even more efficient!

Got it. Great strategy!

Can you explain why we are not as good on third down this year as we were last year?
