Ed Reed COS?

So in essence he will be Manny’s secretary????

Get rid of Banda,PATKE and Rumph and give him all 3 of their jobs..

No clue what the role is or how it makes sense, but he's one of the greatest defensive football players in the history of the ******* sport. And, not simply because he was bigger and faster than everyone. Bring his football brain as close as you can to the program and whatever happens, happens.

An all time great NFL HOF player that literally every kid who plays high school football would recognize wants to taken active role in the program, probably for a relatively small salary, and fans are saying it's a bad hire? The COS is a made up position anyways. It's not vital. We don't currently have one. Ed Reed's position might as well be called brand ambassador and "fun guy for Diaz to hang out with and smoke Cuban cigars." Nothing wrong with that.

Also he doesn't have to "recruit." He can walk into a high school just to say hello as a brand ambassador (you hear that NCAA? He's just stopping by to talk about the wonderful educational opportunities at the U, not "recruiting") and high school players will be in awe. It's not like Reed is taking the position of someone far more qualified to be the Chief of Staff.

Agree. Why would you pass on an experienced guy like zo for reed? zo won't play favorites and tell him like it is. Reed may still be impressionable since he lacks the experience a..a.regardless reed's presense may make a difference but this still looks like. alzy ads move by Blake and his ***** pass counterparts

They didnt pass on Highsmith for Reed. They are completely different positions. As I understand it, Highsmith would have basically been the football AD, and James handles the rest of the sports. Diaz would work for him. The Chief of Staff works for the head coach. Although I wanted Highsmith as the football AD, I can't say I'd have done differently if I'm Diaz. I wouldn't want someone telling me how to run my program. Diaz will either succeed or lose his job after year 2, but it will be all on him.
To his credit so far he has made nearly all the right moves this offseason and I even like the change in recruiting philosophy (focusing on smart, polished players that have a strong football work ethic)

First and foremost, I love Ed Reed and will always be grateful for everything he’s done for UM. With that said, this reeks of hiring a name (Reed) versus a proven executive that would actually shake things up (Highsmith).

I suppose that Ed would be used as a tool for recruiting, media and events. And not be all over Diaz, which is what we actually need.

Sounds like a football Consigliere. Y’all wanted an Football AD.

This wouldn’t be a bad move at all, as y’all been trying to get Ed Reed back in this program for years for various reasons.

Been begging for E Reed, but not in some desk job. ****, Id rather make him the DC. He needs to be coaching up our DBs and RECRUITING!

This is low risk, high reward. The COS title is in no way shape or form indicative of a successful program. Saban or Dano won’t fail because the COS performs poorly. So for those thinking that Reed isn’t qualified for the role, you’re right. But who gives a f*ck. Don Corzine, Justin Wells, and Andy Vaughn will handle the day-to-day operations.

However, if you have a COS with the name recognition Reed has then I don’t see how that couldn’t help. I imagine he will have the ability to at least work with the players in the film room and hopefully instill some good habits. Maybe eventually work his way into an on field role.

We all wanted him to get some experience well this is an opportunity for that.

He would be hired by the head coach just like all the other Chief of Staffs around the country. Which there are many. For some reason some people are under the impression that at any point the HC wouldn't be the ultimate decision maker as far as inside the program is concerned. Even incompetent HC get that power until they're fired. Diaz won't be any different.

Thats why the Zo **** was always a longshot. No coach in the country is gonna willingly accept a reduction in power.
So basically he's not going to magically be able to fix anything. Got it.
