Dylan Raiola Enters Portal

I’m not worried about a culture because Mario is not gonna bring in a quarterback who is not a fit. The silence is defining around Raiola so it wouldn’t surprise me if he is talking to Miami. I would put money down on him if there was such a props bet.

The “Mahomes cosplay” is a little weird, okay, but a lot of fans don’t like the Chiefs. There are worst quarterbacks to emulate than one with four AFC championships, two Super Bowl championships, one or two MVPs, and a future first ballot Hall of Famer.

last year, there was a very large group of fans who didn't want mendoza. and it was, at that time, an absolutely understandable take given that mendoza, whilst showing some sparks, didn't appear to be the guy for a program ready to make a playoff a run.

it's been a year since and mendoza may be the top qb picked in the draft, with indiana sitting at the top rank in the country.

can we stop acting as if one selected qb will absolutely, wholeheartedly either be the savior or the end?

Raiola walked into a bad Nebraska team as a freshman starter and improved his numbers the next year across the board. Completion %, TDs up, INTs down and Passer Rating up. He did all that while throwing fewer passes. That Matters.

The whole "cosplaying Mahomes" criticism is just as weird as the cosplay itself. Patrick Mahomes is a future first ballot Hall of Famer. Kids emulate greatness all the time. What actually matters is the tape, and I've seen enough to believe this team can be just as good next year if we can bring back the same level of defense and add a real threat opposite Malachi.
No, it’s super weird and South Florida guys will destroy him for it.

Potential issue - I live here in Buford GA, where his brother was QB1. He de-committed from Nebraska, a week or so before his brother entered portal. I know the father wants them together. We already have Dereon Coleman in the class. I dont believe the little brother ever committed again. This is a potential barrier, as the brother is a lefty QB, and same class as Dereon Coleman
Sounds like the father needs to butt out.

He needs to lose weight and maybe he'll get quicker. Watched plenty of Bugeater games since his arrival. The pros are his arm strength and accuracy with time. The cons are he can't create somethin from nothin, scramble once the play breaks down or be a running a threat because of his two left feet.

What’s the alternative now? I guess if Mateer or Simpson enter portal but they haven’t yet. If neither does, who else is out there worth it other than Raiola that isn’t already trending elsewhere?

Still feel like we will be circling back to CJ Bailey hat in hand adding $500k to his current offer at NC State

People close to the NU program have stated that his dad/fam are the real issue. This will be his 6/7th team in 6 years? Smdh
I had read similar things. My thoughts are that Mario and our program are a strong program unlike Nebraska who doesn’t have to make a bunch of concessions to please the whole family.

And maybe that will earn us more trust and a hands off thing with the family. The fact that his recruitment has been so quiet has made me wonder if teams are wary of the family nonsense

I think Raiola would do well for Miami personally. No he’s not a runner but he can improvise and has a good arm. Pair him with Miami’s offensive talent that’s all he’d need tbh

Even if Bailey wasn't coming to Miami he is like Will Smith in Fresh Prince looking around to an empty house.

LT gone, RB gone, WR gone.

These QB hungry teams can pay him what N.C. State can, plus he has better surrounding talent, and can compete for a Natty.

I'd take Simpson first, Raiola second, and beyond that I don't care of those options.

I think it's funny seeing people say Raiola has been to however many schools in X amount of years. Who gives a ****? He's been at one college and considering a transfer. High school, yes he transfered a bunch, but how much was him or his parents? People worry about the dumbest crap as he could've stayed at Nebraska if he wanted.

I agree. But I think the issue is that if CJ signed a contract with NC State and breaks it by signing with us, the contract probably contains a liquidated damages clause and/or a clawback clause that will trigger CJ to pay a "penalty" to NC State if he breaks the contract.

Raiola is an incredibly polarizing option on this Board. I’m in the pro-Raiola camp. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For the record, I have him higher than Sorsby, Leavitt, Bailey, etc. The only 2 QBs I would take over Raiola are Simpson and Mateer.

For argument sake
If he signed a new one, big if
So his new Miami NIL deal covers expenses

Bailey 12th QBR
Mateer 50th QBR
Raoila 58th QBR
Understood. Doesn’t change my opinion.

Mateer instantly changes our offense and makes us more dynamic.

At the end of the day, Bailey and Mateer (and Simpson) are not in the transfer portal so this is simply mental gymnastics. Raiola is the only legitimate option.
