Duffy's sold...

What replaced Scottie's Landing??
Apparently Scotty lost his lease on the property ... he was the landlord for the Chart House, then had his restaurant and also the boat storage marina. Haven't been back since we left Coral Gables in Jan. 2014 ... but apparently a ritzy restaurant was built on that spot ... over priced ... Biscayne Bay views. First time I was there was in 1990 when I had my sail boat hauled at the marina next door ... and I was doing a bottom job. The marina workers all hung out at Scotty's, sweaty, covered with paint and grease, drinking long neck beers, and the entire area was a cluster of boat rights, marine repair shops etc. Nothing fancy had yet moved in. Scotty gradually added more tables, then umbrellas, then, one week a couple of attorneys that played classic rock music, asked if they could jam there. THAT was the spark for Scotty's expansion. He was shocked by the crowd he drew with music. So he then put in a LARGE tent over an expanded outdoor dining area, added another outdoor thatched roof bar, and had music 3-4 nights a week. By then most of the boat right and marine shops were gone, an upscale supermarket moved in, and Scotty's became a money printing gold mine. Scotty's neighbors on Old Cutlet were Miami Heat players ... and Scott commuted to the restaurant in a 22' boat that was docked at his house. Living the dream.

Big Bob for sure.

Glad to see Old Florida is still going strong.

Everything in Miami HAS to be some kind of celebrity endorsed tourist trap night club today. The old school places are few and far between.

If you grew up here, everything you knew is gone or will be gone. The tiny bit of soul this city had will be stripped away to build condos for part time residents and Salt Bae fans.
Preaching to the choir man and change is typically a good thing but not so much on this one 😡

I live two hours north of Miami in what was a smaller sized county we now call it Orlando East or Miami North. Our beaches and rivers canals were kept preserved for as long as possible. Money and Greed will always win no matter what. Endless Condos, Apartments complexes, Air BnB's and the small town local businesses being forced out for companies like Westgate Resorts, Disney Resorts, Margaritaville Holdings, Brevard Nightlife $$$. They want more and more people to move here when the infrastructures in place weren't even suitable to handle the population 25 years ago.. Our roads are trash, if it rains for more than two days the streets flood and all the fertilizer oil trash gets swept into the sewers and into the canals polluting creating massive mammal and fish kills. If a hurricane comes and it rains for a week straight or more the sewers get backed up and guess what local government is forced to do? Release all the sewage directly into the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River Lagoon because IF NOT it will be pouring into the streets and peoples driveways... Releasing HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of pounds of human ***** directly into our water ways like its no big deal and people just turn their cheeks and ignore. Overpopulated is an understatement.

If a single foot of land hasn't been flattened and built on its already in the works. 30 years ago you would pull onto Fiske Blvd maxed out at 50mph or your getting pulled over you'd see maybe 25 folks driving to and from. Now its a major 4 lane highway thousands of cars daily going over 80 mph, pure chaos and this was once a small residential Blvd. Over populated **** show is what old FL has turned into.

I know its apples and oranges comparing the great city of Miami to a smaller county that's been overtaken but it feels the same. Gut wrenching watching it happen and nothing you can do to stop it.

Our local mayors/politicians could give two ****es about preserving anything that's left. Shoot old FL hasn't existed in Miami for over 50 years.
22 million people reside in FL now.. Being born and raised here and seeing what it is now turns your gut to the point of nausea and I'm not even that old lol Finding somewhere in the mountains away from this rat trap with a big screen tv for Miami games an old lady and a dog sounds nicer and nicer every day.

Born in Miami and raised in Hollywood and left in 1983 so I didn’t experience the explosive growth since then. I’ve lived in extreme NE TN for the last 40 years and we’re seeing many moving here from the NE and CA buying houses/property for cash sight unseen. It hasn’t been a rapid growth but still changing the landscape as I speak.

I'm in the bargaining phase of grief as it relates to this.

If you own a sailboat that is kept IN the water you have a yearly chore of hauling the boat and sanding / repainting the bottom with anti fouling paint to keep barnacles from growing on the hull. Wonderful task involving toxic dust so most people wear respirators and full body suits for protection ... unlike some of the old salts that worked IN the yard ... they wore shorts, no tee shirts, and smoked Camel's while they sanded and breathed in that toxic ****. They would be sitting at Scotty's bar, covered in red or blue bottom paint, smoking and chugging beers. One guy in particular, Charlie Campbell I believe was his name, always had a parrot on his shoulder. The kind of scene that would make a good book cover for a Tim Dorsey novel.

I knew a guy who built boats for years and rarely wore a mask or anything protective. One time I asked him where his respirator was and he pointed at the Marlboro hanging out of his mouth. Dude was rough.

I’ve got family on the space coast and they tell me the same things. Really you just described what could be any number of Florida cities. Overbuilt and over crowded with little to no thought about improving/expanding infrastructure to suit the millions of extra people. Short term, money only thinking is rampant in Florida. “The I got mine, ***** the rest” attitude is now prevalent here. If i wasn’t deathly afraid of cold weather I would have left years ago.

Get the kids through school, then I'm gone. The change has been drastic. Too drastic.
