DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

Just fold the program if we're going to get gutted like this every offseason.

Awful awful stuff..

This year it was Manny Diaz complaining about how little DB depth we had, and it restricting the type of defense he wanted to play

Next year its gunna be DL depth.. The **** story just goes on and on

Yep. Same ****; different year. They have failed badly at defensive recruiting.

We will be fine, ****.. you guys are scary as ****. Every time something comes up it’s a fest. Fire everyone, we suck, Clemson this, Bama that.... **** you MFRS need to chill. Canes going to be better next year and we came a very long way in a short period of time this year.
If these kids want to go to work for their money isn’t that what they are supposed to do. This isn’t Al Golden or Randy Shannon coaching, Richts been doing this awhile. Put your big boy pants on and get over it.
At least you are not a Bengals fan and they give your coach 2 more yrs after going 0-7 in playoffs

The classic "Trust the staff" line.

Idk, you guys like to ***** so much I would hate to take away from your habits. Kids leave for the NFL/ go home to be with family it Fn happens, yes depth will be affected but overall the team will be better next year

Didn't mention where you live, said he will play 3 seasons in nfl min, at your rate, he takes home $900k in 3 seasons.
He can finish school anytime if things don't work out, you act like he isn't smart and doesn't have other options if it doesn't work out.

you want him back for your personal gain, as do I, but he needs to do what he thinks is best for him

If they come back and end up in the 2nd/3rd round instead of 4/5/6th/UDFA they increase their earnings potential by 5x.

The whole 2nd contract stuff is garbage. The average NFL career is 3.3 years so more than half of players NEVER make it to their 2nd contract.

"Things really drop in the second round, where the average contract was worth about $5.1 million over four years ($1.3 million per year), according to Spotrac.com, but with only half of that guaranteed. The value of third-round contracts drops to $3.3 million, but takes an even bigger hit in guaranteed value, with the average contract worth just $756,000 in guaranteed money.

Once a player falls past the third round, most draft picks will sign a 4-year deal in the $2.4-2.9 million range. The only major difference late in the draft is the signing bonus, ranging from $400,000-600,000 in the fourth round to slightly more than $60,000 in the seventh round."

You're not going to get some people to understand that. Let's face it, there's a large group of people out there that think $500k is enough to live off for the rest of their lives. Never mind the family members that they'll be taking care of too. The tax man is a m-f'er and if you're out of the league at 24 with no other real options, you're going to burn through that couple hundred grand quickly.

This is so Racist its insane.
Because he is black he has to take care of family??

You mention out of the league at 24 with $500k in bank and no real options? that is probably worst case scenario too

so bigot please enlighten us on Norton's grades and at UM and current path to graduation, and future non football plans?, I mean no way a black kid is close to graduating after 3 years and would come back and graduate from UM right?
he must have no other plan right?

You're the only person that brought up race.

Others that love ushering these kids out the door early like this are the same ones that love to say that we don't know their situations entirely.

Holy **** you're dense.

Didn't know only black people took care of family members when they came into a large sum of money. Guess I better tell my senior citizen parents to save as much as they can because they're never getting a penny from me.

As for using a worst case scenario: A) the worst case scenario would be not getting drafted or making a roster (very possible) and B) When making life changing decisions, you better factor in negative scenarios because life doesn't usually work out perfectly according to plan.

Lastly, if a player decides to leave school early despite being advised not to, it's usually because he either: A) needs the money now, B) doesn't particularly care for school or C) a little bit of both.

For not being a total knee jerk little drama queen like so many here?
He's spot on.
Everyone needs to chill a bit. I can recall Butch having to play 240 lb DTs with zero depth during the probation years. Things aren't nearly that bad and turned out pretty well in the end.
We're entering year 3 here. There's still time to add players before the season starts. Yes, we lack depth and experience at several positions, but it's not quite time to write off the season yet. These coaches are going to have to earn their money, so we'll see.

So we have supposedly the best DL coach in the business, spots being vacated left and right and yet we can't find anyone to come in and play. Something isn't adding up here.

Unpack those bags, Big Hoss Fines!!!

Honestly that's one of the first things I thought of. Either he's really bad or Kool is not having the impact we thought he would. All I kept seeing and hearing was how Kool took undervalued kids and made them into studs.
Seems we always have a disproportionate amount of guys that look for the first opportunity to leave. I'm sure there are some kids out there that would love the opportunity to play at Miami.

Kool is a good coach, but he'd have a better chance of dragging Augustus Gloop out of Willy's chocolate river and turning him into a productive DT than he would with Big Hoss Fines.

ask channing crowder about draft grades and leaving early

For every 1 guy that actually pans out, there are 100 that don't even make it. There are 256 guys that get drafted. You think all of them even make it into their first NFL season? They don't.

Also, LB isn't DT.

You obviously dont know the story smart guy.

He was given 1st round grade out by draft advisory board and Kiper, but went in the 3rd.

If RJ is getting a avg of 3rd round grade by 6 teams, then he probably is gonna be a 5-6th rnd pick. I would bet that Kendrick goes in a late round or possibly FA. You have to be real about the situation.

Another year, another giant exodus. This is becoming a very worrying theme in Richt's tenure here.

At least we did a good job loading up on DTs this year in anticipation of this possibly happening. Oh wait....
