DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

I feel like more and more ppl just use the university for their own personal gains and agendas. Just imagine what could've happened if we would've went all the way this year.

Is that what everyone does? As fans, we want all the good players to stay 4 years plus a shirt. Then we want the players not cutting it to leave after 1 or 2. I did not stop one minute to think about taking some more courses at The U after getting my Doctorate just to help it’s income statement. Nope. Left to make money and never looked back. Our players have a tremendous track record of devotion to The U after playing there, one others evy.

Have you ever sat at table in a casino and had some ******* next to you tell you how to play a hand? My comment is always, “Are those your chips in front of me? No! Then shut your frigging mouth!” Hey, I want those to kids back. DTs are the secret sauce to our defense. But I also watch Melvin Bratton on the turf and knew the kid just lost millions for The U. I did not race down and write him a check. We have the best player alums in the world. These two will probably be like all the others. Let’s cut them some slack since it is not our chips on the table.

A bunch of y'all are some PMS'ing sissies. The recruiting cycle isn't even ova, Norton or RJ hasn't announced and the sky is falling. Clemson is losing 3 or 4 DL to the NFL early. Welcome to big boy football. Next man up.

You mentioned Clemson like we are recruiting on the DL like they are. We dont have the horses they do so, when we lose players like this it effects us more especially when we are already hurting for depth

We are losing two five star players, two four star players, and two three star players that ended up being starters and potential NFL Draft Picks.

...and we are replacing them with what?

You can have all of the Top 5 Recruiting Classes you want, but if you aren't recruiting the right positions, its empty. This is why you saw all of those highly regarded Canes classes of the mid-2000s come with very little success (besides coaching of course). They didn't recruiting enough highly regarded defensive linemen. Some classes had quantity, but its a mix of low end four stars and three stars and ultimately a lot of them didn't pan out either, but there clearly wasn't an effort to re-stock DL year after year, which is what you need to do in recruiting.

Losing seniors is one thing...losing some NFL Draft picks is another...losing a guy like DJ Johnson after one year is another all together. We've got a major problem on the DL right. Not a little problem, but a big problem.

Next year's DL will consist of low end 4* players and 3* players. Nothing wrong with those players individually, but you can't expect to win a conference championship and ultimately contend for a playoff spot and hope to compete in said playoff game with a DL thats...well...that.

Big losses all around.

This was already a team with a downtrending defense by the end of the season. The honeymoon period of the Turnover Chain is over.

Not expecting much next season.

We are at 59 as of 1-3-18. This includes The three departures this week and does not include the two DT's rumored to be leaving. Add the 19 signed a few weeks ago and we're quickly up to 78 not counting Willis so technically at 79.

I expect one of the QB's to hit the road and at least one OL as well so we could be looking at an additional four spots with RJ and Norton perhaps bolting.

Bottom line, we have plenty of room to sign a few more elite players-4 star or greater. I don't want projects. So if we can't land difference makers, save a few spots for next cycle.

How many scholarship players will be on the roster next fall? Less or more than 75?

currently have 78 with recruits after departures
but ok

It’s 79, unless you aren’t counting Silvera yet.

Your numbers are off. After the 4 departures this week (Gordinier, Fines, Owens, Johnson), adding the 20 commits, and including Willis (which I don't know why anyone would exclude him because he was actually enrolled and on scholarship this season), we are at 79. If you want to exclude Silvera because he isn't signed yet then, the number is 78.

That leaves us with 6 open spots to fill as of this moment (i.e., a class of 26). Our maximum number for the class is 28 (give or take 1).

My hope would be to see Norton and McIntosh stay, and the following guys take a hike:

1. Shirreffs
2. Jahair Jones
3. Milo
4. McCray
5. Knowles
6. Gray

If all of those guys leave then we won't be able to get to a full roster of 85 scholarships for the 2018 season (unless we award scholarships to a few walkons that have been enrolled for more than 2 academic years.).

Panic mode. I’m not gonna lie and act like some dumb **** tough guy. This is BAD. 7 scholarship guys on the dline. The guys people are banking on are career back ups, head cases, injury prone or position switches. We have a defense that is 100% predicated on dline disruption and we just got embarrassed on the big stage twice in the last two weeks. We are two miracle plays away from being 8-3 this year and it’s not like we are coming in to 2018 with a significant advantage on offense if we don’t make changes. ****ing horrible

It definitely sucks but it’s not the end of the world. We still have more talent on our roster than any team in the coastal. We weren’t winning the national championship next year anyways. The goal is to win the coastal and have a one game playoff to win the ACC. There is no reason to doubt that we can’t be in this spot at the end of next year. Our blue chip ratio is still higher than most teams in the ACC not named FSU and Clemson.

Both DT's have looked weak to me all season long, think it's a bad move for both. I hope they have graduated. Jackson bought into the hype of Herbstreit talking him up the ND game. I don't think the DT's are ready and he is way behind them, smart move for him.

Really depth is the only reason we are whining/concerned. I only remember a few times where the DT's actually dominated. It wasn't consistent and not being consistent will get a second day draft pick cut quick. Mostly it was Trent, Joe Jack, and sometimes D Jack/Chad making the real plays on the edge. I felt like our interior got owned most of the year.

This is shaping up to be one of the worst weeks in modern Canes history.

This dude be trolling the **** out of y'all lol..This is nothing compared to when that Nevin shapiro Yahoo article drop, you can bet that, lol. Anyways, some of y'all, if you're a fan need to get y'all **** together. put in the book bag, wrap in foil, but get your **** together lol. MJack comes back, that's the back 7 coming back, and basically 8 starters coming back on D.

Folks were making the same argument about the secondary this time last year, well, here we are again. We should have a really good year next year, definitely better than FSU and UF! We were one average QB performance away from playing in the Playoffs, and now the U is a dumpster fire, lmao. Folks are trolling like it's the Golden and Shannon days on Grassy lol

This dude just compared us to Clemson lol, they can lose studs be sued they actually recruit DL studs to replace the studs going pro. Rinse repeat.

Isn't it hypocritical as **** to, in one breath, say McIntosh and Norton should stay and the next here's 6 kids who can kick rocks?

They definitely have looked weak the last 3 games

Kendrick Norton and R.J. McIntosh look like they will head to the NFL.

Mike Jackson appears to be staying.

Official announcements expected by the end of the week.

No pride in this program when it comes to players with unfinished business. Best of luck to them

That’s the problem and Richt has to change the future. Look at Georgia and who made all the big plays for them, seniors who could have went pro but decided to come back. **** even Bama gets highly touted Juniors to come back and play year after year.

Maybe DL isn't the strength of the team next year. So what? Lets wait and see. MJ came out of no place this year as a redshirt jr. Maybe Bethel is ready to shine. Willis is proven and good. Maybe Ford gets to 290 next year and proves he's ready to hold the fort down. We'll finally see what Martin has.

Or maybe they end up as just a solid group that gets beat sometimes and we overcompensate with a now veteran and very talented LB and DB corp. We are 3 cycles away from being in the right place at DT/DE in terms of talent and depth. Just the reality of our situation.

We can still win the Coastal next year and get back in the ring with Clemson.

Man idk who these kids have advising them but they need to reevaluate who they have in their circles because thats some terrible advice for these 2

that's because they're getting paid..

Lots of Estrogen here today

Take it from the guy with the Charlie Jones handle.

DL is a pending disaster unless Ford is a superstar and Willis stays clean.

so Norton was superstar now? but not ready for NFL?
which is it
Ford will be fine

No. We didn’t need Norton to be a superstar though because we had some depth, tdburns22.

we played 4 guys again
our 4 next year, are all highly recruited = you acting like a 12 year isn't going to change it, kids leave, wont be the last

2 more committed for 19, hopefully grab another good one this year for depth

Banking on future classes after next season is a losing argument. You're not good at that.

Also, we were very fortunate to not have any injuries (long term) at the DT position. That rarely happens.

ask channing crowder about draft grades and leaving early

For every 1 guy that actually pans out, there are 100 that don't even make it. There are 256 guys that get drafted. You think all of them even make it into their first NFL season? They don't.

Also, LB isn't DT.
