DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

Take it from the guy with the Charlie Jones handle.

DL is a pending disaster unless Ford is a superstar and Willis stays clean.

so Norton was superstar now? but not ready for NFL?
which is it
Ford will be fine

No. We didn’t need Norton to be a superstar though because we had some depth, tdburns22.

we played 4 guys again
our 4 next year, are all highly recruited = you acting like a 12 year isn't going to change it, kids leave, wont be the last

2 more committed for 19, hopefully grab another good one this year for depth

Talking about the 2019recruiting class. LMAO.

Yeah people are grasping at straws.

We could have offset the poor recruiting at DT last year by securing at least Nesta and Carson (and hopefully another guy like Briggs) this if Norton and McIntosh remained. Instead we're scrambling for Nesta to log significant playing time - assuming he's not stringing us along before heading elsewhere on signing day.

I've no idea how two guys can get their **** pushed in like they did in the Bowl game and think they're ready for the NFL. Just a crazy mindset.

I was always under the impression that you had to be a stud to leave early. Like surefire early pick. (1st or 2nd round)
Yet for whatever reason we continue to lose marginal players to early departure.

What am I not understanding?

With CTE players are trying to cash out before we get to deranged. But yeah it's a joke on the divas who get pushed around.

Wish mike jack leaves this year, he has potential to rise in the draft process with his good tape outside of a few games this year, size, speed and production

How dumb are you? You want a kid that at worst will be a quality backup next year to just go ahead and leave early? What if these stud freshmen coming in don’t pan out? What if we have injuries?

Seriously, you can’t be this ******* dumb!

It's happening everywhere. I think around 40% of early entrants last year went undrafted.

We cant pay more than the NFL but those other schools can, I cant figure it so Im assuming it has to be that. That being said can anybody play DT is back

I was told the dt position was fine , no issue. Numbers are just peachy. I guess preparing for guys leaving early and numbers issues should be dealt with after the guys leave. We can fix this in 19/20 classes.

Now lb and de is looking shaky too, but hey...wr, rb, qb , og and db is set.

I understand Walton leaving early. As a RB he’s unlikely to improve his stock. He isn’t going to increase his size or speed. He’s already a good pass blocker and receiver out of the backfield. He can play special teams. He is what he is. Unless you’re one of the few superstars in the league you’re just another back.

RJ and Norton leaving early makes no sense. RJ has potential but another season working with Coach Kul and the S&C program would only improve his stock and first contract pay day. Norton needs a lot of work. I hope he can make a practice squad.

As another poster noted, the average signing bonus for a third round pick is far better than a sixth round pick. You would think a year of hard work is worth a few hundred thousand dollars, or more.

Short-term thinking from both players.

What round would make leaving early "worth it"?

3rd or better?

Like what's the benefit of leaving early to be a 5th-6th round pick? (if you can improve your stock by staying)

I’m guessing you didn’t read any of the prior posts and just posted this dribble at the end to continue this for a few more pages

**** these guys. Norton will be scrubbing toilets in three years.

Average idiot in here, lives with their parents or 4 other losers and has credit card debt on foolish purchases, but a guy about to be paid in the nfl for a few seasons will be scrubbing toilets?
ok

You couldn't be more wrong about where I live champ and your commentary about getting paid for a few NFL seasons shows you are either really young or poor.

His $500k signing bonus after taxes, agent fees, accounting fees, nutritionist, etc will net him about $300k assuming that he doesn't buy a single thing.

It is a MORONIC decision to leave early to be drafted in the later rounds.

This. Getting drafted in the late rounds is actually a really bad deal. Your odds of being cut are super high and the pay (net of the agent's very large share and taxes) is much less than people realize. Throw in living expenses and the fact that most players spend whatever comes in at a very rapid clip and there won't be anything left in a couple of years. You have to be ready to be really good in the NFL (physically & mentally) or it will not work out. If you compare the physique of either RJ or Norton to NFL DLinemen there is no comparison. RJ has better odds of getting drafted in a decent round and making a roster but both should stay and develop their bodies and their craft for another year so they might actually stick at the next level (and make some real net pay).

Mike Jackson shouldn't come back. Yes he got picks (even though 2 were thrown right at him) but his coverage was average. He should go while the going is hot. I don't think he has half the season he had this year. This is his best year to get drafted. Depending on how NSD shapes up he won't play as much as he did this year IMO.
This

hes right

Unfortunate all you can do is hope they don't get drafted or very low and get cut so Richt can use them as another example of poor decisions ala Kaya. He has to stop the early departures. No one is complaining about Walton because we look fine at RB but his senior leadership and him mentoring the younger guys is what the Bamas of the world have.

Officially selling all of my Kul stock. He has proven repeatedly over the last 2 years that he is a subpar recruiter at his position, including convincing players on the roster to do something that benefits them

I have a sell order in for Banda and Rumph as well, pending certain market developments in the next couple weeks

And ultimately, I’ll lose faith in Richt if he doesn’t become aware of what is transpiring and begins to make changes

These next 4 weeks are crucial for the staff and this team. Fail to adjust, and you might as well lock in another 9-10 win season next year

We are at 59 as of 1-3-18. This includes The three departures this week and does not include the two DT's rumored to be leaving. Add the 19 signed a few weeks ago and we're quickly up to 78 not counting Willis so technically at 79.

I expect one of the QB's to hit the road and at least one OL as well so we could be looking at an additional four spots with RJ and Norton perhaps bolting.

Bottom line, we have plenty of room to sign a few more elite players-4 star or greater. I don't want projects. So if we can't land difference makers, save a few spots for next cycle.

How many scholarship players will be on the roster next fall? Less or more than 75?

currently have 78 with recruits after departures
but ok

It’s 79, unless you aren’t counting Silvera yet.

A bunch of y'all are some PMS'ing sissies. The recruiting cycle isn't even ova, Norton or RJ hasn't announced and the sky is falling. Clemson is losing 3 or 4 DL to the NFL early. Welcome to big boy football. Next man up.
