Donta Simpson to the portal

So this is all NIL related?

This kid can kick rocks. Was in line for good things here with Good DL coaches and a top10(at worst) caliber team
And PT. Kid was going to be our 4th or 5th DT, now he gets a pay bump and more opportunity to potentially work towards another pay bump.

Not saying it was the right decision but it makes plenty of sense.

Just because Miami spends more money than those schools in recruiting doesn't mean that they are going to pay Simpson more than another school would. If Miami paid him what he wanted, I am sure he would stay.
He’s just a kid making a stupid emotionally ignorant decision. Just moving around to be a backup somewhere else he will be in the portal again same time next year.

Maybe you are right, but if you or I got a chance to make a lot more money, we might jump on that offer even if we didn't feel like the opportunity was perfect.

Not talking ****, but this post sounds a bit emotional because the decision was unexpected and we weren't ready for surprising bad news amidst all these good vibes.

Given how expensive defensive linemen are, I sincerely doubt that those numbers are correct and even if they were, doubling your salary is kind of appealing, no?
*productive/proven Defensive lineman*

Nobody knows what his market value actually is. He is at a premium position tho. Still, for a young Diamond in the rough type to leave a situation like Miami is a head scratcher imo

You aren't wrong. My guess, and it is a complete guess, is that given how starved teams are for difference-makers at defensive tackle, someone sees the potential and is willing to offer him a much larger pile of money than we are willing to offer him.

If he went fishing without a firm offer just to test the market and see what he can get, I wouldn't blame Miami for helping him pack.
