Idk if this is real or not but I am sure people thought like this. Until they see Cici and Bain and Pancake commit while we were one of the worst cfb programs. 5 star going to a team that lost to Middle Tennessee State, thats when you know you have a program builder.....and thats what all great cfb head coaches do.....build a power and they stay a power and thats by getting talent in the room.


Lane over Mario was a goofy take then and look at it now we were proven right that Lane is a soft type of HC pause

I've had some unfathomably incorrect takes on here but anyone claiming that they knew Mario would always eventually succeed here is wrong.

He CRIMINALLY underperformed his first 2 years and if he didn't pull Cam Ward at the last second, i really wonder if he'd be the coach here right now.

He's got the train on the tracks and its full steam ahead but we're not going to act like losing to MTSU and GT were necessary parts of the plan.
 
I generally think giving a coach about 3 years to fully judge them is fair to give the new guy a shot with his own players, but man, those first couple seasons under Mario were rough. But as the team changed from Manny's guys to Mario's recruits and transfers, you could see the improvement from year to year. Helps that he also is quick to fix coordinator issues as well.

There are many people who knew exactly that and a lot of them spoke up in 2018/2019 because they/we preferred Mario to Diaz. A lot of people who weren’t sold on Mario were 100% bought in after Oregon beat Ohio State.

lol I wasn’t wrong though. He did stay that year (and 2 more years) and won at least 10 games during that time. But I’m glad Mario did what he needed to do to get us to where we are now and hopefully getting us over the final hurdle this year.

A lot of criticism SMU and before was warranted. I mean there’s MTSU, Gattis, Guidry, GT(twice) and even last year. Hopefully we’ve turned that corner and it’ll be more of a reminder of the changes he made to right the ship here.

I know I lost my **** on this board after the first GT game. I was ready to pay for a banner after that game.

Yeah I was more making a joke. We sat through a lot of bull**** here with promises of “patience”

Not Mario’s fault we spent 15+ years of it already but it just wears thin especially as teams were flipping programs overnight with portal and NIL

It’s thankfully in the past and hopefully the last time we have to go through that

Absolutely. All of our proverbial fuses were short after Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt, and Diaz one after another.

One thing he's proven is he's flexible and willing to adapt to what works, practically diffusing the hard-headed, neverending "Mario Ball" concerns a lot of us had.
