Does anyone believe this OL is elite?

Defenses load the box not just bc the run game is predictable but bc they aren’t scared of Beck as a QB.. that’s the main issue. Nobody stacked the box with Cam Ward at QB that’s what’s making it harder for our RBs.. the QB sucks. We flopped big time taking him over Mendoza smh.
Mendoza will look like dog **** under Mario

Not elite at anything. Part of it is discipline, part of it is the scheme.

Run blocking is horrible. Most of that is scheme. We telegraph what we doing and teams stop it. Have you ever seen the aerial of our plays in condensed sets? There is no hole ever. If they do their job, it looks like a MAZE to the 3rd level. That’s some crap. And we have success when running out of spread formations. So the players can do it, but condensed only hurts us.

Pass blocking again is mostly scheme. Because we telegraph our runs so much, we actually clue in the defense when we want to pass. But that said, player talent not good. TEs are invisible. Lofton has massively underperformed according to preseason projections and his route tree is so limited. Bauman doesnt attack the ball. So when you take them out of the equation, as a defense you can sit back in zone and double/triple Mali and send the others.

Beck is handcuffed, and maybe rightfully so? But like he said, he’s running the play called and not audibling out of the play when he knows they are f&cked. But he has to take some blame since he doesn’t take his checkdowns more often.

But back to the Oline. They are not elite.

What’s ironic to me is that if Mario and Mirabel are insistent on this type of offense, they suck at matching the players to the positions that would help the team do better. You want to pound the ball up the middle? You put studs at the G and C position. Brockermeyer is who he is (but why not give Rodriguez a shot here? I thought we cross trained lineman? Don’t we have anyone else we could try?, Either way, you surround the center with FM and Anez, you just might be able to open some holes up the middle. Put Okunlola at RT (he wouldn’t be protecting the blind side).
As far as that last paragraph, I've been waiting the entire season for some genius to figure that out. We want to run up the middle yet that's where we have our worst linemen lol. Add to that Cristobal and Mirabal knew **** well that Brockermeyer wasn't a good run blocker yet they brought him anyway. Plus the LG position has been struggling since last year! You can't make this stuff up!

I’m really beginning to question Mario’s recruiting philosophy of landing (and paying) these high priced 5* OL. I’d think we’d be better off if we pull in those 3 and 4* kids. Teach them and develop them. Save the NIL to overpay for some game changer WRs and RBs. If Mario/Mirabal are that good they should be able to identify the talent and get it developed.

Our OL has been terrible with run blocking and above average with pass blocking. They aren’t an elite unit at all.
Idk if it’s the blocking I think it’s the Duo everything. Especially in obvious run downs they just run it into stacked boxes I do think this OL is good they just get 0 help from the coaches with helping them in the run game

Anez cooper although he’s been meh
Markel bell
McCoy

Francis is our best player and he was a five star. So tough argument. But Samson was pricey and he’s still battling as a redshirt sophomore with McCoy who’s average to me

Being ELITE means being focused and consistent we fail in both , we have weakened our push terribly.

People hate to hear this but we’ve seen the proof

So you think the solution is adding more meh to average players? I'm not sure you work shopped that one enough before typing. Truth is the OL productiom and coaching have been overrated. We need more on par with Francis.

I wasn’t advocating landing more average players and yes I think Mario/Mirabals evals have been lacking. Ultimately evals matter. That said if I had my choice, if we had to pay for one vs the other, I’d rather pay big for an elite WR or RB vs an OL. And I base that on a 5* OL isn’t going to take a game over, while a WR or RB can.

In theory I agree with you on this especially since our HC is supposed to be an OL guru. The problem is he hasn't transformed any of these "trust Mario guys" into much more than being serviceable. We haven't landed a single 5* skill player so I have nothing to support my argument.

Lol…Ya we need more of the top 4-5 OL in America types…No other team message board in America wants that I heard.
Yea, normally once teams get one they throw in the towel and say **** it...lol couldn't imagine wanting more than one good lineman at a time, it's not like 5 play at once

The pass blocking is way above-average. I can easily argue it's the best in the country, but since I don't watch every game from every team, there's no way in **** there are 5 better pass-blocking units in the country. Sacks allowed is NOT the end-all stat to represent this, but it's not bad when you have an immobile QB, and we're currently 6th in the country in sacks allowed. Army and Navy are 2 of the 5 teams ahead of us. I saw something headed into the game last week that Beck was being pressured at the lowest rate of all FBS passers...something like 19%, which is unheard of.

Run blocking stinks, though. 100+ in yards before contact. Scheme has a lot to do with it, but just watch the games. The LOS was 2-3 yards downfield last year, this year, not so much.

Run blocking, poor. Pass pro, elite.
Many run blocking issues are coming at the edge. TEs and edge blockers aren't holding up. Edge players are able to work down the line and make contact on the RB at or near the LOS

Ya because we are really throwing in the towel. We really don’t want any of em.
