Does anyone believe this OL is elite?

I called them elite and I was wrong. Pass blocking, they are in that category. But the penalties have been crippling and we're in the 80s in yards per attempt.

With as much money as we've spent on them, and it being Mario's "strength", and him bringing on his right hand man as run game coordinator, why can't we get a ******* yard when we need it against trash opponents? This is Mario's hand picked unit, with millions of dollars behind it, with his best buddy running the show, and he SUCKS. How many more years and millions of dollars do Mario and Mirabal need to just be competent at the one thing that they're allegedly good at?

I said weeks ago it was overrated as ****. Solid to good group but nothing like you’re being told . The left side is actually mediocre.
Cooper talks a good game but makes blunders. Our center is sub par

Its all schemes

If this OL wasnt so tight at formation and if we spead the field more on these short yardage plays, and ran tradiitonal run plays, im sure we would be making more conversions

Furthermore, our RBS on these short yardage plays just plow into the line. There is no play recognition where they just beak it outside to pick up the first down

Its either bad coaching ( which it is) or they're being taught to not improvise

Obviously not elite or wouldn’t be sitting here with two losses in last three games. Penalties show a lack of discipline. Early in season we bullied some good fronts. Now teams have wised up & stack more people in the box than we can block. Sooooo, we stay determined to be the storybook train going up the hill, chanting . . . “Yes we can. Yes we can. Yes we can.”

Not elite at anything. Part of it is discipline, part of it is the scheme.

Run blocking is horrible. Most of that is scheme. We telegraph what we doing and teams stop it. Have you ever seen the aerial of our plays in condensed sets? There is no hole ever. If they do their job, it looks like a MAZE to the 3rd level. That’s some crap. And we have success when running out of spread formations. So the players can do it, but condensed only hurts us.

Pass blocking again is mostly scheme. Because we telegraph our runs so much, we actually clue in the defense when we want to pass. But that said, player talent not good. TEs are invisible. Lofton has massively underperformed according to preseason projections and his route tree is so limited. Bauman doesnt attack the ball. So when you take them out of the equation, as a defense you can sit back in zone and double/triple Mali and send the others.

Beck is handcuffed, and maybe rightfully so? But like he said, he’s running the play called and not audibling out of the play when he knows they are f&cked. But he has to take some blame since he doesn’t take his checkdowns more often.

But back to the Oline. They are not elite.

What’s ironic to me is that if Mario and Mirabel are insistent on this type of offense, they suck at matching the players to the positions that would help the team do better. You want to pound the ball up the middle? You put studs at the G and C position. Brockermeyer is who he is (but why not give Rodriguez a shot here? I thought we cross trained lineman? Don’t we have anyone else we could try?, Either way, you surround the center with FM and Anez, you just might be able to open some holes up the middle. Put Okunlola at RT (he wouldn’t be protecting the blind side).

They are good but slightly overrated. The center is poor and that’s where everything starts. We missed on Bauman. He sets the table and he constantly gets his **** pushed .

Also, we do nothing to make their jobs easy. The DL and LBs are constantly getting downhill immediately cuz they know what’s coming

Most teams in America would trade their personnel for Miamis. This OL will likely have 4 guys drafted. Aside from PSU & A&M, I can’t think of another line with that pedigree.

As I’ve said many times, and others have said in this thread, you have to look at what they are being asked to do. Asking them to bully guys when everyone knows what it coming, when you’re out leveraged and asking Bauman and Lofton to block like they are extra OLmen… it’s a lot to ask.

They did it vs ND & UF. Pushed them around with the whole country watching. But when you run the same play week after week, eventually it gets stopped. That’s on the coaches, not the OL.

one of the best pass blocking lines i see week to week.

we have no run creativity, tight splits...and tes that cant block and also wr whoa rent good blockers who they also motion into block lbs at times.

Just a mess int he run game which apparently really isnt designed to break long runs but get between 4-8 yards.

Brockermyer isnt a strong run blocker but we knew this coming in.....Mccoy and Pancake are both guys who may be better at tackle.

Pass pro they do a **** of a job most times

Everyone talks about our NFL talent on the line… but if Rivers was a 5th round pick and Lee went 7th… I don’t know that I would draft any of these guys besides Cici.

And I’ll be curious where he goes. Not everyone thinks he is a tackle at the NFL level and he has been a part of the bad penalties all year.
